    Can't thank you enough fornthe video! Just got an HT-550 that had "speed control" issues.....
    The motor struggled to start and dragged/rubbed slightly. Almost identical to your video. I cleaned out the shaft and bearing, like you; re-lubed etc. i also found that the little bearing was almost dry as a bone and so i greased and flipped the over the nylon bushing. Cleaned and set the potentiometers and now it runs like a dream. Yiur video saved me hours of figuring out how to pop it open. Thank you!

    This is actually my turntable. By the way, it’s still working mint 10 months and many albums later!! Thanks for the great work TTguy!

    Amazing that you found the issue of a stripped screw which was initially looking like an electronic problem. All the time you were dismantling the motor board, I was thinking bigger screw. Probably the best solution to get proper grip.

      The bigger screw did bite, but the metal is very soft and I'm hoping it holds.

    this video I really enjoyed I learn by watching this show and it has helped a lot whern you realized it was the screw being stripped I immediately thought about using a slightly larger screw cause at least I thought that plate was too much trouble to go through so much at first I thought your idea could work but it did not I had a similar problem once with a stripped screw in a metal plate I forgot what it was but I did what you did and I had 3 screws and the 1 screw was stripped the larger screw worked as I was installing the other good screws I noticed that they were very loose going into thread they tightened well but they seemed like it could loosen up again I believe this was on a Dual 1225 I was removing a little plat to reattach a spring that was broken and this plate was covering it not exactly sure but when I tried to put it back thats when I found stripped screw so like I said found the other good screws a little to loose being threaded in just for peace of mind I dabbed a little bit of super glue onto edge of screw and plate a very small dab but not too much I have done this before and when I had to go to it it was small enough to be very strong but not too much as to be able to unscrew just a very good screw drive and a little more force you can take screw out clean up the screw and put it in and maybe reglue it I ended up giving my 1225 dual to a friend who wanted to get into records he had an amp but no TT so I gave it to him free thats why I will never be rich I always seem to give things away ,I really wanted him to get started on the record world ,so far 5 years has passed the 1225 is still running all functions are good he is very happy I even had an extra spindle that I forgot I had so I gave it to him to try the automatic function he said it works great and likes listening to music as he works around doing his chores without having to change the record ,I don't recommend using the glue unless like since these screws were hard to find and seemed like the threads were a little worn I did not want them to loosen were that spring would pop out it does work I just do not go crazy with the glue its almost like using paint on a screw the dual has a screw or 2 with paint on them like where the anti skate part is held down so as not to move I do not know what paint they used so I used the super glue it almost acts like the paint JRo

    this deck was probably shipped with the platter in place during it's lifetime which is a real no no

    Not sure if you can help with this question. I have been looking at buying either a Hitachi HT 550 or PS 38. One is a semi auto and one manual. I really prefer a semi auto but given these are both more than 40 years old and parts are hard to find should I focus on a manual? Specifically regarding the HT 550 I am most worried about that round plastic gear driving the arm return as I hear they get brittle with age and can easily lose teeth. I see you have worked on both so hoping you can offer an opinion.

    Should there little reflective studs that reflects light from a LED back to a Photo transistor that feeds back to the PLL input which derives the voltage to drive the motor.

    You're probably getting this a lot, so please excuse me if this is posted elsewhere. Are you receiving shipped turntables to you for repair? I'm wanting a full recap on a Pioneer PL-71; as well as pots cleaned.

      Yes, you are definitely not the first person to ask. Unfortunately, I am not taking any shipped tables. Thank-you for your interest though.

    Great video! I have the same model of turntable as this, but mine has a strange problem. After about 10 minutes of playing the speed starts to wobble. It slows down a bit, and then it ramps up to speed again. It does this every few minutes, sometimes 1, sometimes 5. It usually stops wobbling after 25 min of total playtime or so. I've made sure the speed select is clean, and I've recapped the motor control board, with no success. The only thing I think of now that might be causing it is either a problem with the quartz lock, or lacking lubrication causing the plain bearing to pinch the spindle. What do you think it could be?

      @TurntableGuy  2 года назад

      It could be the quartz lock circuitry that's starting to go. I'd also check any transistors for faults.

      @@TurntableGuy Sry if I'm bothering you, but it seems to be working now! I lubricated the spindle and bearings with gear oil and put it back together. The first few minutes it wobbled a bit, but then the speed was dead set for the entire record, so about 40 minutes. I will check the voltage over the potentiometers on the circuit board as well to make sure they're within what the service manual says, but I'm crossing my fingers.

    It is best to put things in the reverse order to the way you took them off.
