I thank God that I discovered Dune, awesome world, story etc. . It also came in time when Disney turned my beloved Star Wars to shit, so now I am Dune and Warhammer 40k fan for life.

The voice and the force are not the same. Also I can’t recall that Luke was/is an messiah figure in the etes of the people or that his messiah status was used to manipulate the peoples, only the jedi

They don’t work directly the same way but in concept they are essentially the same thing. It’s an ancient technique that only a select few can use and the main character is strangely proficient in it. Luke isn’t a traditional Jedi but in Star Wars Lore he’s technically “the chosen one” that Obi Wan had spoke about in revenge of the sith, he had just confused Anikan with Luke cause Luke wasn’t born yet. Regardless his story is a direct mimic of Paul’s, he loses everything has to become a refugee and get help from a resistance against the empire to overtake the empire

@ wel, not to nitpick, but the force is much more than commanding people, and paul is of bennegesserith descent and luke of jedi descent. It’s old lore to inherit capabilities of your elder. Also the heroes journey is one of only, say 10, basic stories to be told. But I’m sure George read Dune, yeah

@martijnmeijers7815 I completely agree, and just like how Frank Herbert got inspired from Shakespeare I’m sure George was inspired by Frank. Ultimately it worked out because we have 2 very distinct franchises with very different tones / takes on the genre

19something Dune really did a disservice to Frank Herbert

The 1984 film had its quirky charm. Poor David Lynch, after directing it he watched it get butchered in editing and can’t bring himself to watch the Dennis Villanueva version.

I agree, the interviews with David after the fact are heart breaking he really cared about the books
