- Samsung continues its nearly spotless history of delivering excellent big-screen phones with the Note 9. It offers powerful performance, a long-lasting battery and a brilliant display. Its cameras aren’t the best in class, but they still take great photos, and the new S Pen remote controls make the stylus useful for more than just doodles. This is hands-down one of the best phones of the year.

Dual Aperture Camera, Superb Screen, Great Speakers, Headphone Jack, SD Card, Big Battery, 128/6GB & 512/8GB storage options, Dex PC connection, Ip68 water and dust resistance, Bluetooth 5, Fingerprint Scanner, Wireless Charging... ticks so many boxes, great job Samsung.
That S Pen functionality though...
Bluetooth enabled, super quick charging and the ability to map different functions per app onto it... that really sets this phone apart. Nice one.

-cameras are straight from the S9+. Nothing special like earlier note-iterarions tends to have.
-Very expensive. Software Support over time ist still pretty bad.
-Face unlock unreliable. Fingerprint scanner on the back is really small.

P 1 X 3 L Samsung knew about Android Pie. They could at least provide a release day for the update.
The Note 9 is definitely underrated. Everyone's like, "oh it's nothing new" but it's because it was already refined to perfection.

yes totally agree. many phones do not worth 1k because features wise is so lacking. Am not a samsung fan but looking samsung note 9 now, it has all the check box tick. so is worthy to be 1k.

Furieux I wouldn't say in every aspect. The camera of the note 9 is still better in daylight, the design is also much better imo(most people think so) the screen has better colours and is brighter and the 4k is overkill. The xz2 premium is great but I don't think as good
This phone is so complete. The people who say 'nothing has changed' since it looks similar to the Note 8 are insane. Phone design doesn't have to change drastically for functionality to improve significantly.

It's like the rear isn't different, or I need to actually tell/remind people that Samsung always uses a design for 2 yrs???....First introduced with the innovation phase, and then it's pretty much refined to perfection the next yr, with slight changes(didn't see them screaming that all the N7 brought design wise was a curved display, did you???.....once again, a sign that their going to the greatest lengths for this XD)......when people are willing to ignore obvious patterns, so as to make something a bigger deal than it's worth, then you know it's all a wild goose chase :3

Phone design is slightly different, i have note 8 and if u put this phone next to mine i can tell the difference right away. I regret getting the N8 should've waited for this badboy. Plus Samsung doesn't need to change their designs much its the best right now

pankaj gera I think this device is worth it if you can shell out the cash or do the payment plan, I also think an Apple device is worth it. Good thing about Apple is you can resell them for a lot but Samsung is definitely tougher to get rid of. I’ve done a lot of selling on Craigslist and iPhone go quickly.

I'll never understand why people claim they have so much trouble with the iris unlock feature... I use it almost exclusively on my S8+ because it just works so well and is so much faster than fiddling with that terrible finger sensor placement.... It even works FLAWLESSLY when I'm wearing my glasses whether I'm in bright direct sunlight or in pitch black darkness.... I'll never understand how so many people just... can't get this right... I set it up the day I bought the phone, and haven't ever had to redo the scans... they just, worked from day one and continue to work without a single failure....
This is the most complete and the only phone that is truly worth the price, imo. With that said, I'm completely happy with my Note 8 and won't be looking to upgrade for another year. Excited to see what Samsung would be doing with the the S10 and the Note 10 (if it's still happening).
Yep. I'm on agreeable terms to what you said for the Note 9. I also have the Note 8. I got mine in the Deepsea Blue color last year. Due to the fact that of my choice of getting a new phone every two years, my next phone to get will be the Note 10 next year. That phone along with the S10/S10+ will be making bold statements across the board.

I quite simply cannot afford this phone, but if I could I would buy it. I wish Samsung would bring the DEX feature to their lower end phones. I can imagine having a monitor setup and when I get home just docking the phone and boom its now my desktop. They are places in the world where the phone is the computer and those users would love this feature. The DEX feature seems useless only to those who already have more computers than they need or lack the imagination to see the future of computing. Plus its really low power computing. This makes it the ultimate tiny PC but its also a phone as well. I hope Samsung sees that DEX should be in their lower end phones as well where it would make more sense for those who use their phone as their computer.

It wouldn't work as fluently on their lower end models. Just buy an older flagship, like the s8,s9, or Note 8. They're all a lot cheaper now.
Maybe if they found a way to move the DEX hardware to the dock, then maybe any phone could work. Samsung might even have a new device to promote.
I pre ordered the note 9 and got it for around $500 but not sure if that was just for tmobile...other companies probably have similar deal for pre order

Bixby is a dog. It is completely unreliable on my note 9.
Still rocking the Samsung Note 8. Not going to upgrade every year, I will wait till the Note 10 or 11.

I've not had those problems with my note 8, both Bixby and iris scanner work like a dream for me. I've literally never had those problems... I will see when I get mines. Great videos by the way! Thumb 👍🏽

psutfin39 Google assist doesn't work well at all with Samsung devices after Bixby entry. I tried very hard with note 8 and my 2 year old oneplus 3t. Oneplus was even able to pick OK Google from 10 feet away but note 8 couldn't do. I guess Samsung wants people to use Bixby which counters Google assist.

Unlocked version gets updates faster.
$1250 for the 512GB version which also adds 2GB more ram is a great deal: 4 times the storage and more RAM to run everything you throw at it.
Waiting for my 512GB version to arrive next week and trading my Note 5 for a $150 discount. Awesome stuff!

This phone is fucking sick and I am typically an Apple guys sometimes straying away to get a Samsung device, I have an s7 edge for downloading movies from shoebox, but this phone I think is the whole package. Only thing I wish they’d do is let us remap bixby out of the box, not forcing us to download an app that does it. Because I don’t use voice assistants at all no matter what phone I’m using. I think I will be rocking this note 9 and the new iPhone when it comes out.

Samsung makes good hardware but it seems the same thing every year with almost zero innovation and competition have catched up so price wise i think people can get way better phone and a overal better experience because touchwiz is still soooo bad!
I compared the note 9 to my note 8 and it has a bigger screen and feels smaller in the hand. Love it! Can't wait to get it in September. People who wanna argue upgrading go ahead! Qhieever can afford to upgrade every year just fucking do it!

Umm, my Bixby on note 8 does everything I tell it to. You need to calibrate the phone to your voice and have it learn your voice and speech. That is the reviewers fault for not doing her proper research.

That samsung is faster on wifi could not be related to wifi radio rather it would be related to the storage speed
Cause most of the phones bottleneck on the nand flash speeds
Cause phones have pretty much identical wifi radio modules & Different Nand Flash modules

Great review. Thank you. I pre-ordered the Note 9 and I'm returning my LG V30. I actually love the V30, but I wanted that Samsung display, battery life, and I'm excited about the stylus. I just wish they would get rid of Bixby. Why do we need Bixby when we have Google Assistant, which is arguably the best AI? Thank goodness we can disable Bixby. Anyway, keep up the great work.

Download speeds of OnePlus 6 are extremely bad. You should compare download speeds to S9 or P20 Pro since they have better antennas, drivers or whatever it is where OnePlus cheaped out.
