    • @katrinab7657
      @katrinab7657 3 года назад +16

      People keep acting like this is what PhD chemists do. It's not. $80-100K+ industrial chemists don't work on production lines, adding chemicals and testing pH of every batch of water. They set standards, create protocols, and develop procedures to ensure a standard outcome. in a larger facility, you might have a quality control person who oversees randomized product testing. But this is a very small facility. A literal mom and pop shop. They're lucky if they even had a consultant establish guidelines and procedures to follow and maybe answer questions on occasion. If procedures and training were in place, this man would have probably been an okay hire. He lacks a little common sense, but apparently, he figured that if the chemicals he was working with were harmful, he wouldn't have been left on his own. And just because this man didn't know about the chemical compounds, doesn't mean they were the wrong chemicals. Just may have been the wrong dosages. Just poor management all around.

    • @ReflectedMiles
      @ReflectedMiles 3 года назад +41

      There's something else at issue here, I'm pretty sure, beginning with workers that have no real understanding of their jobs. A pH in the 8 range isn't that far away from neutral (7) and there are city water systems whose "normal" water is also as high as the mid-8 range. It _is_ better for infrastructure, especially metal pipe longevity, and probably for acid reflux sufferers as well. (My city, in contrast, spends a small fortune trying to lime its acidic water stocks just to reach the mid 6's.) Hyping alkaline water using other unproven claims is just standard American snake-oil sales tactics.

      I mean, the inverse makes sense, so he probably assume that the direct version would make sense as well. If something is poisonous, you probably shouldn't ingest any of it, even if it's a tiny, tiny amount. A "trace" amount of something very dangerous is still bad. And if something is completely safe - usually a bit more, or double, etc. of that thing is still fine. Like, for example, something random like a food - a banana let's say. One banana is safe, ergo, most people would also assume eating 6 bananas is still safe. Or if this was orange juice concentrate or something, added double the OJ concentrate would still be safe, just might taste weird. He was thinking along those lines. You can't blame the guy, it makes sense with many other food/drink items, so I can see why he'd think about it that way, especially given that he has no idea what's in that concentrate.
      I mean, he was still wrong - but the owners were responsible for this ultimately. They were the one putting who knows what into the water, and telling an untrained guy that has NO IDEA what's in the "concentrate" and isn't a chemist, etc. - to just "put in more concentrate" was a horrendously stupid and irresponsible thing to do. They're the ones at fault here, not this poor goober that was probably being paid like 10 bucks an hour to dump some mystery liquid into bottled water for his boss.

    • @ParadigmUnkn0wn

      Tell that to the people of Flint Michigan. I'm just glad I live in the country and don't have tap water. I have clean well water that I use a water softener and filter on the clay soil I have at my house does a great job of filtering the water before it enters the well it's like drinking out of a fresh spring. The only problem I've ran into is I did run out of water one summer during a bad drought and had to limit my usage.

    This is not the only brand that does this either. And definitely not only to children. I am a 38 year old female who gave another brand to both my cat and myself a couple months ago. We both became very lethargic, weak, and severely nauseated. I have been monitoring water type and brand very closely since. I pray that this information spread sooner rather than later.

      @@RyanNelson0402 When I lived in Phoenix in the mid-1990’s virtually no one drank the tap water. Every grocery store had a water filter, often outside built into their building, so residents could buy filtered water 24 hrs. a day. Tap water is one of the worst. If you'd ever been in a city water tank you'd probably never drink it again. Invest in a berkey water filter. Worth every penny.

      @@ljones98391 so what you're saying is when KNOWN situations happen, THAT is the best time to drink from tap, otherwise..drink from the tap.
      They fixed that problem. I've been there. And tap water for the majority of everyone has been fine. I mean, we still have a populace that's going strong.
      As well as well water doing ok also. As well as the fact people can do exactly what you just stated they did..use filters. SO...do just like my grandmother who bought her house in 92, and use filters because she didn't much like the tap water, but wasn't out there just buying up bottled water either. Cause..ya know, we all grew up on real water and are doing just fine. so is she 84 and still having a part time job because retirement is boring...and drinking tap water.
      Bottled water for emergencies makes sense.
      And our bodies adjust the ph itself.
      Everything you ingest goes into your stomach ACIDS first. that perfectly ph water..because acidic because of your stomach acids. It was a useless buy.
      Your body adjusts how it needs to. It's a natural thing that happens.
      it's nice to want to do better. Just throw some extra common sense based on research in there.
      And it's nice to want to support people, like you're doing, but realize when people need a truth.
      Drinking bottled water is an added risk with no real payoff.
      Not meant to be mean. meant to be just truth.
