Cheers mate! There is definitely some awesome views up there but not a lot of decent camp grounds. Also a lot of the tracks are in and out which makes it hard to do a decent loop. I think wild camping is the way to go up there. I'm thinking a bit of a back street / fire road type of trip would be fun which also gives access to cafes and water etc.
Your Velo Orange Neutrino would be cheating. You have to ride a child's bike 😂 Actually I'd love to see how my little thing keeps up. It surprised me how well it rode. It was pretty brutal on the bumps though. Absolutely no flex in the frame. I should try put an old 7 speed cassette on it.

These comment also remind me of the older trips I've done, I often then watch them again like I just did with this one. I get so pumped to head out on another trip. it's such good motivation for myself as it is for others. Cheers for the comment. This was a fun one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm probably my biggest critic because I watch so many amazing videos online which are most likely filmed with teams of people, at the perfect hours to get the best light, with budgets etc. I always want my videos to look better or have a better story. I started this channel because I love playing with cameras and the best way to learn is to just keep creating. At the end of the day none of this really matters, the desire to keep learning and practicing is getting me out on these trips and the memories I have made are priceless. I'm so happy I started this channel. The amazing comments of support like this are unbelievable and make me smile everyday so thankyou.
Awesome mate you will love it. I just got back from a long weekend away. There was 4 of us, 2 (including me) had old 90’s bikes and the other 2 had fancy bikes. We all had a great time and I can confirm my old bike did great 😁 I find bikepacking very rewarding. I can be tough but when you make your destination it feels so good. Have a great trip 👍
Haha, that’s kind of like me reading the passage saying “watch the sunset with your own eyes not through a screen” while I’m there with my head in a camera 😂 Cheers mate. Glad I could give you something to watch while pedalling away 😁
Awesome video Tim and well made point about getting out there with what you have. I used to read bike magazines until I finally realised they're mostly focused on making you want new stuff. Now I just watch cool stuff like this and go ride my bike. Love your work.
Cheers mate, new bikes are great but it doesn’t mean you need them. I’m currently 2 days into a 3 day ride on my old 1992 mongoose. 110km so far and the bike has been perfect! So good. Enjoy your ride ✌️
Mate this is absolutely the right video for me. I've been thinking about getting a gravel bike and get started, but my MTB will get me there and back. Love your work legend. Keen to get out there now. Never been before.
If you can make it work on the bike you have just start on that, if you love it as much as me then you can look at getting a new bike. I personally have gone down the route of getting better gear like expensive tents, warm sleeping bags etc. I love riding in winter so a good sleeping bag was a priority. Once I have everything I want I’ll probably get a new bike but I’m in no rush. The old things are working just fine. Cheers mate and enjoy the ride!
Homie, you're on the money! Whatever bike. Even no bike, someone's neighbour for SURE has some old banger they would love to see get taken out. KMart even sells dry bags now, straps, Amazon knick knacks. I'd say someone could put together a comfortable weekender kit, bike, tent, cooker, the lot, for under $200.
Haha, you’re not wrong! I’ve been trying to get mates out and I’m like, take my bike and I’ll ride some hunk of junk I find in the gutter! It will be great 😁 Still haven’t got any takers. Good bike’s definitely make it easier but that would be too easy 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
Mate, I’ve just found your channel and I am loving the heck out of it. I loved this vid, I loved the idea behind it, that it’s about being out there, living and seeing. Thank you!
Haha cheers mate, This was a pretty random video but I’ve witnessed a few people being keen but never committing until they have all the gear. While it’s nice to have all the good stuff, it’s not the gear that makes the trips great. I think I said it in this video but I’ve done all my trips on old bikes and not one of them have I thought about my bike while out there. Even on the tough rides, I don’t think a new bike would have made the ride any easier. Just got to go with whatever you have. This doesn’t stop me dreaming about all these sweet new rides I see on the market. One day 😂
Cheers mate, It’s not all about the outdoors for me. I always love to play with the footage at home and learn new things. These trips mean I get to enjoy the adventure and also gives me footage to play with. I love it 😂 See you out there 👍
You're spot on, I feel anything memorable, high's or lows, are the things you tell stories about and they naturally end up being the highs of the trip. I love the battle knowing its all going to be worth it in the end 😀
I thought it was going to be a Surly…and it was! 😂 Heavy, heavy, heavy! Seriously Tim one of your best productions yet. A great reminder for those of us who can get caught up in chasing the what and lose sight of the why. Love your work mate 👍
Haha, I’ve never actually ridden an actual “bikepacking” bike. The Surly’s do look nice and one day I’d like to get something fancy. I wouldn’t mind a hard tail and all the old suspension forks look super heavy so I might have to get something more modern. We’ll see. But for now I’ll keep riding whatever I’ve got laying around. Can’t wait to head out again 😁
I agree, part of me wanted it to rain hard just to make it more exciting and when the sun started coming out I thought, what do I do now, this is boring 😂 It’s pretty hard filming in heavy rain so probably a good thing it wasn’t as bad as forecast. As for the seat, that was maxed out. Not sure those bikes are designed for adults 😜 Cheers!
Cheers mate, So many nice lookouts around. definitely worth a visit. This time of the year is always nice too with the autumn leaves. Maybe stay away from the 3 sisters though. too busy there 😂
Tim I picked up a similar sized one off a footpath today, it was marked "free" , I won't be following you into the wilderness on it, I will do it up for a grandson. It needs a bit of work, 3 x 7 drivetrain MTB with front suspension
Haha, Come on. Just one ride yourself? 😂 I've got a problem these days, every street clean up pile of rubbish I see my eyes just lock on looking for an old high spec bike. I see people find them all the time but I'm yet to find anything worth grabbing. One day though 🤣
@@advanturest I am like you Tim even though I know I shouldn't, it is an inner battle I have to fight, I drove past this little bike but somehow the car drove me around the block and stopped and told me to get out and pick it up. It is now down to component parts for a rebuild.
well all i can say is.... if this is the type of videos you make..... i have subscribed !!! because i am a weirdo too and you have inspired every 10 year old to bikepack around oz !!
Kick them bars forward, would be more comfortable, me and a mate did similar with Raleigh 20s in the mid 90s, had a heap of fun! Loving the vids! Paul. Auckland. NZ.

Great video mate fantastic cinematography and colour grading. I don’t know if you answered this before but what track is this? I really want to tackle it
Hey mate. It’s just the Mount Hay Road out to Butterbox Point from Leura. All the walking trails down the end are great. Not ideal for bikes but the dirt road in is good to ride. Some stunning views from the walking tracks. Just know I only went about 1 km on the walking tracks and I had to carry the little bike over heaps of rocky steps. I’m not sure your plan but if you want to ride it, you could potentially hide your bike in the bushes when you get to the end of the road and hike in. Another option you just drive to the end and go for a hike. Definitely an area to visit though. Especially in the morning or afternoon light. It’s gorgeous! Enjoy!
Gorgeous footage, excellent concept, and I love that title! 🤣 You perfectly capture the madness of RUclips bikepacking culture by doing the exact opposite! It reminds me of my 60 days on a $120 bike. What do you really need besides a beer holder anyway??
Haha, I was pretty impressed with my 2 beer holders 😂 Do you think my title is a bit click baity 😂 I absolutely love that you rode for 2 months on a $120 bike. So good. Obviously nice new bikes are great but definitely not a necessity. Thanks for watching 👍
@@advanturest just as click baity as it should be! Honestly I now ride a $1300 bike because it's worth it, but that $120 bike made that tour possible when otherwise I would've broke the budget and had to spend 2019 working instead of playing!
Love it Tim! Great video and message. Which route/track was this in the Blueys? Just saw your comment about not telling anyone. Reckon you could message it to me? Would love to mountain bike it (not necessarily camp).
Mt Hay Road. Start with that and with satellite images I’d say you can work out where I was 😂 This road is on the NPWS website as a cycling route www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/cycling-trails/mount-hay-road-leura
Also, I don’t want to be hiding any cycling routes from anyone. It was more me unsure if I was allowed to camp where I did. I’ve seen others camp out in wild places but I also see “no camping” signs so I’m a bit confused. 👍
Overnighting on a hike or cycle isn't really camping. Camping is setting up for an extended length of time, which leads to groups of people setting up for weekends and trashing a place. It's similar to sleeping in a road side rest area in my opinion. Good trip and a good philosophy,, thanks.
Giday just wondering how your going with the backpack setup i have a duel suspension bike and im going to trying the same thing i think my pack will way about 13kg can you give me any tips or advice thanks ,scotty
It really depends on the pack. I’ve done heaps of trips with the pack and it’s been fine but my bag is super comfy. Good hip straps to take the weight off your shoulders is pretty important. An uncomfortable pack can cut into your shoulders and even lower back so something to think about. How longs the ride??? I’m heading into the bush now and doing my first trip in a long time without a backpack and I’m a little nervous for some reason 😂 The way I see it. Give it a go, it may be a pain and you may hate the pack, but there is only one way to find out. If you don’t like it you can change it up for the next trip. I pretty much change my setup every time. By the way, with all my camera gear my pack always weighed about 20kg which is ridiculous but always comfy. I noticed I did get more fatigued wearing it though but for me to take camera gear it was worth it. Good luck!
Haha, Amazing spot down there. I like to share where I ride to get others keen but I also don’t want to be the one that makes a beautiful location get trashed. Not that I think the people watching my videos would trash anything but I’m at a point I really don’t know what to do 😂 Tough one!
@@garycook3943 You're not wrong Gary. I just look at Satellite images and you can see the valleys. If there is a trail nearby I just have to check it out. Especially if it faces west and has the potential for an awesome sunset.
Hey mate! I’m always happy for people to tag along but it’s very hard for me to organise. It’s hard enough for me to organise myself. I also go at a slow filming pace my frustrate a few. I’ve had the odd message like this so I’ve been thinking about organising a weekender that I share on here so anyone can tag along. Could be a fun random video. If you have any ideas I’m all ears 👍 Thanks for the kind words. Cheers
Me too, when I read it a year or so ago I was considering buying a new bike and it got me thinking. The old bikes I'm riding are working perfectly. What's the point on spending money. I'd prefer to work less and ride more. Not once on the trail have I thought I needed a new bike. I'm sure it will happen eventually but for now the old bikes put a smile on my face and I love it. Cheers

Haha, I was pretty impressed with my 2 beer holders 😂 Do you think my title is a bit click baity 😂
I absolutely love that you rode for 2 months on a $120 bike.
Much appreciated for videos like that. Freaking nice...😂
Thanks 😀😀
My knees hurt watching this 😅
It reminds me of you on my Mongoose 😂
You should try the velo orange nuetrorino mini velo
An Internet friend has one of these and is keen for a ride. I'd love to give one a go. They look cool!

Love it Tim! Great video and message. Which route/track was this in the Blueys?
Just saw your comment about not telling anyone. Reckon you could message it to me? Would love to mountain bike it (not necessarily camp).
Mt Hay Road. Start with that and with satellite images I’d say you can work out where I was 😂
This road is on the NPWS website as a cycling route www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/cycling-trails/mount-hay-road-leura
Also, I don’t want to be hiding any cycling routes from anyone. It was more me unsure if I was allowed to camp where I did. I’ve seen others camp out in wild places but I also see “no camping” signs so I’m a bit confused.
👍
@AdVANture ST I completely understand. Thanks a lot mate.
I’m heading into the bush now and doing my first trip in a long time without a backpack and I’m a little nervous for some reason 😂
The way I see it.
Good luck!
I sure do know where it is. Ridden out there quite a few times.
My lips are sealed
Would love if you could message me the location mate. Would like to take my bike out one day.
Haha, Amazing spot down there.
I like to share where I ride to get others keen but I also don’t want to be the one that makes a beautiful location get trashed. Not that I think the people watching my videos would trash anything but I’m at a point I really don’t know what to do 😂
Tough one!
@@advanturest It's not like anyone NEEDS to go here. There are so many Blue Mtn places to explore and enjoy. Many caves too.
@@garycook3943 You're not wrong Gary. I just look at Satellite images and you can see the valleys. If there is a trail nearby I just have to check it out. Especially if it faces west and has the potential for an awesome sunset.
Hi Timmmmmm, Very very inspiring vids. Excellent work. I am retired and willing to join your adventure ST outings. Awaiting a positve reply.
If you have any ideas I’m all ears 👍
Thanks for the kind words. Cheers
Understand the organising well. Filming pace rules. I've only done beach overnighting but glad to join a weekender anywhere
this is so satire :D
I really love the paragraph you read from instagram. Will keep them in my mind. It also matches with this video :)
Thanks👍🏼
Me too, when I read it a year or so ago I was considering buying a new bike and it got me thinking. The old bikes I'm riding are working perfectly. What's the point on spending money. I'd prefer to work less and ride more. Not once on the trail have I thought I needed a new bike. I'm sure it will happen eventually but for now the old bikes put a smile on my face and I love it.
Cheers
