    I haven’t stopped listening to this album since I recorded this reaction. This album makes me nostalgic for things I’ve never even experienced. Idk what it is about it, but I’m addicted

      I'm actually from and live in the same city he wrote the album in! Small town guy made it huge and we all love him. Mt next tattoo is this album cover. He's from a small town called Fall Creek Wisconsin. He wrote Holocene about the icy roads at night looking at the lights of the city from the countryside of Eau Claire. I live in Eau Claire. Bigger city around that same Fall creek area. Actually all these small towns are in Eau Claire County. Thanks for reacting.

      Another thing is, when Justin Vernon suffered a bad breakup a long time ago, he spent a lot of time in his father's cabin in Fall Creek. Again, Fall creek is 10 minutes from the town I grew up in Augusta. 1500 people ish in both small towns.
      He wrote the entire album of For Emma in that same cabin full of heartbreak and many many beers to my understanding. There's a documentary about it on RUclips. Love this band.

    This is my favorite album ever I really appreciate being able to see you genuinely enjoy it, it’s almost like I’m hearing it for the first time again.
    One album that I love almost as much is called Wild Alee (Deluxe) by Talos it’s in a similar vein to this album but instead of forests and mountains as a backdrop it’s more like the ocean and space. Highly recommend if you haven’t heard it

    This is my favorite album of all time. So glad you reacted to it! You need to listen to 22, A Million next or For Emma Forever Ago

    beth/rest and wash. got me feeling some type of way. this whole album feels like a distant memory, like a home i had forgotten of. it brings the same feeling as liminal spaces in a way, they feel familiar yet foreign. this existentialist folk genre is everything. started listening to bon iver not too long ago and am hooked; glad to see someone else experiencing this album around the same time as me.

    I would give some of these guys' other musical projects a listen too, since you see the different influences. S. Carey has the repetitive piano arrangements, Volcano Choir is another of Justin Vernon's projects that is a different flavour of the same thing.

    What I would give to experience listening to this for the first time again. I remember when this first came out and was such a stark difference from For Emma, Forever Ago but it felt like a natural and deserved evolution. So lush; like the first signs of spring after winter.

    Doug, you gotta listen to Song for a Lover of Long Ago. It’s Justin’s best solo song by far, and maybe his best song ever. I have more recommendations if you want, especially where he’s not singing falsetto.

      I’m a major MAJOR bon iver fan, and I’ve given fleet foxes a chance but I just never really got it. What are some of your favorite songs? I’d love to try them again!

    • @fluffy_walrus
      @fluffy_walrus Год назад

      @@divinerdan8413 The thing with Fleet foxes is that, much like Bon Iver, there are different eras with different sounds in the discography, even if there's some common elements. I know people who heavily prefer the new stuff on Shore, I know some who adore the jazzier Crack-Up material, I know some who adore the early harmony-heavy material, and I know those that prefer the concept album proggy folk turn of Helplessness Blues, etc.
      If you like the more progressive and slightly jazzier Bon Iver material, you might like "Mearcstapa" or "Quiet Air/Gioia", or "The Shrine/An Argument".
      If you're a fan of "For Emma..."'s stripped down acoustic vibes, I'd recommend the "A Very Lonely Solstice" concert Robin performed during the pandemic. It's stripped down (with the exception of the really beautiful opener from Shore that makes use of a great choir) and the songwriting shines.
      They don't have anything resembling this album's sound all that much, I'd say the most atmospheric production work they managed was probably in Shore or Helplessness Blues.
      I'm a big fan of all of it, so my favourites are a grab bag from their whole discography range, with "Ragged Wood" (Upbeat folk rock, off their self titled), "Featherweight"(Introspective, progressive folk maybe, it's off their most recent album Shore), "The Shrine/An Argument" (progressive folk, off their album Helplessness Blues), "Crack-Up" (jazzy prog folk, off the album sharing its name) and probably either "Mykonos" or "Drops in the River" rounding out my top five (both tracks off their Sun Giant EP, more harmony focused straight up folk rock).
