  • Today, I show you how to play against the king's Indian defense with black
when White plays the Smyslov Variation with bishop g5.
White still does not wish to clarify what his plans are concerning his e-pawn and the knight on
g1. It is evident that he might be eyeing castling long with his last move and he also keeps the possibility of transferring to the Saemisch Attack. This solid positional system stops the sharp lines from arising (f5,g5,h5) and gives white a solid positional game in which he can try to push for advantage. Also, the demon bishop is imprisoned and this will certainly take the King's Indian player
    out of their comfort zone.
The position we will study today starts with:
    d4-Nf6
    c4-g6
    Nc3-Bg7
    Nf3-0-0
    Bg5.....

I found this for the very same reason as your intro. Crushing with the main line, getting crushed with the Smyslov, and as you point out - it's because I try to fight back on the king side.
    Cheers!
