- Abortion rights are a divisive topic in the discourse leading up to the first election since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
In Canada and the United States, 90 per cent of abortions take place in the first trimester. But in the U.S., some women have no choice but to wait longer now that access to safe abortions has been reduced.
Farah Nasser travelled to Colorado to meet Dr. Warren Hern, one of the few physicians specializing in late-term abortions, and hears how he's dedicated his career to women's reproductive rights.

I’m not saying this is an easy topic, but all of our societal issues are connected here. Domestic and social violence lead heavily to these problems. Education has been hijacked and instead of teaching the dangers and realities of sexual decisions, we’re too worried about preferred pronouns. Then 10 year olds get pregnant and rapists are given minimal bail and prison sentences. We have to get our priorities straight. There have to be alternatives to abortion, which include harsh penalties to rapists and those who committed other sexual crimes…. This should not exclude castration either. Education has to been taken back by the people from government and school board’s insane agendas. Finally, law enforcement needs to be seen as a partner in the community instead of a threat. There also has to be safe places for real girls and women to recover mentally from this trauma.

Very young girls may not realize they are pregnant early on, or might be hiding It from their parents until later.
Most 13 year olds would not be able to understand early vs late abortions and in my opinion they are too young to consent to sex.
As the doctor mentioned, some are as young as 10 and many have been raped by family members etc.

This "doctor" should recall that the Hippocratic oath requires a person to do no harm. Contrary to what pro abortionists say, abortion takes place for many reasons, most of which have nothing to do with a risk to the life or health of mother or child. Far more women are forced into having an abortion against their will than have done because they are raped.

Hern has also likened humans to a cancer on the earth, and he has said if a woman is stressed by the baby being the wrong gender, he would consider that a reason for a late term abortion for the life and health of the mother.
And him saying his colleagues revere him is in contrast to what he said in the past, that they would make fun of him killing babies even on Christmas Eve.
So just remember, a man not caring about tearing apart babies just might need Jesus. But Hern would have aborted Him given the chance.

I watched the movie Dr. Hern was in - After Tiller. I've always been pro-choice, but that documentary really made me rethink some things. The third trimester terminations of a non-viable pregnancy are understandable to me. But one woman called from France who was not carrying a fetus with any health problems, this was elective which is understandable too. What horrified me was that she was 35 weeks pregnant and she was 39 years old. That made me sick. My daughter was born at 35 weeks, almost 8 lbs. and needed zero medical intervention. There's got to be a better way. The other issue to me was that on one hand this doctor says he's helping women and children in desperate need of an abortion for many reasons, but taking a look at his price list in the movie shows a late term abortion is $20,000 plus. What 10 year old, raped by a family member can afford that? So the issue still stands - many of the people who need this done the most (low income younger women) won't be able to afford the procedure anyway and you're back at square one. IMHO there should be money allocated to free early term abortions. That probably won't happen with the new laws and divide in our country but if not, you'll have people literally killing a full grown baby. And before you say that doesn't happen, go look the info up - he does elective abortions until 31 weeks 6 days, for any reason at all, and after that it's a case by case basis. We need to do better in this country to prevent that having to be an only choice.

I remember a story my dad told me years ago. He worked in a lumber mill before college. Machinery with saws, dangerous moving parts, wood chippers that shredded useless lumber to sawdust, etc. He was telling me about the horrible injuries he'd seen. One in particular haunted me and filled me with fearful dread and caution. One of the chipper operators was tossing warped boards and rotten lumber into the chipper. The railing was loose and he lost his balance and fell into the chipper. The agonizing screaming along with the shrill screeching of the chipper being jammed horrified all the mill workers. Obviously, being in shock-they sent workers home that day. Many never returned, including my father. The risk was too great, the potential of gruesome death too possible. Wondering why i shared this? Because every expectant mother who is fearful of having a baby that walks into an abortion clinic often asks if the procedure is painful to the unborn. The clinician then lies to them, as instructed: "oh no! It's just a blob of tissue. There is no nervous system development at this stage." This is a ruthless murder- a tender, sensitive, defenseless babe protected in its mother's womb. The uterus is filled with every comfort for the child to develop safely. The sudden, violent ripping of limbs from the body is NOT painless. Oh! But there are more humane ways, you say? Like saline? Have someone flay the flesh from your body and pour salt over you. Imagine the unspeakable agony! Abortion is murder. This is an eye- opening example of the brutal truth of the 'my body, my choice' movement.
Uhhh since the majority of abortions are done by pills. The majority of abortions are at the embryo stage, so no it doesn't feel pain. Any fetus that has got to the gestational age of being able to have perception of pain, and is gonna be aborted, well that was a lost pregnancy due to complications. You don't care about women and girls, if ur focus is on the small amount of abortions that are needed. How late? I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant, had the amniocentesis test at 16 weeks - which is very much the early side.
Waiting for the results now, so it's impossible to have an abortion for medical reasons before 20 weeks in this situation.
My husband and I have been trying for a long time for this baby, I've had 2 miscarriages already. But if the tests come back as something is seriously wrong, I'm definitely aborting.

Other than those medical reasons, many doctors WILL NOT perform late term abortions for fear of SEVERE PENALTIES like a suspension of one's medical license or a prison sentence for murder charges. The latter being why the anti-abortion crowd's bogeyman Dr. Kermit Gosnell is currently serving a life sentence for numerous illegal abortions.

Ive always felt there was a grey area when it came to abortions.
I certainly feel under the right circumstances, abortions are acceptable in the beginning of pregnancy, as long as they are not used as a birth control.
I strongly disagree with second and third trimester abortions, especially when the fetus has developed pain receptors.
That said, i can understand a later abortion being necessary under circumstances such as rape.
A late-term baby can be removed & survive & be adopted. Also, a baby is innocent. It doesn't matter if the dad is a rapist.
It matters to the rape victim, especially if she's a child herself. Only a monster would force her to give birth.

Just remember that Exodus 21 makes a clear distinction between the accidentally miscarried fetus and the woman who bore it. For the one who caused the accident is to be fined if there was no other harm to the woman, but "eye for an eye, life for a life" is to be applied for all hurt beyond that. The fetus is not regarded as a person, the would-have-been mother is. A person capable of making complex decisions previously reserved for God following the Original Sin.
Nobody is getting pregnant to have an abortion. We are talking about something that people decide on due to various flavours of despair and suffering.
On the medical side: Pregnancy can threaten your health or even life. The fetus can be severely deformed or barely be able to live. By no fault of the person carrying the fetus. Biology is just so wonky that even when you want a child, they could die in the womb.
On the socio-economic side: Pregnancy can not only make your job more difficult, but impossible. It might be a constant reminder of a crime committed against you. More likely than not by somebody you know. Should you give birth, the child might be unaffordable, be it in respects to time, money or both, and giving them up for adoption is its own can of worms. And I haven't even talked about the mess that boils down to "damned if you do, damned if you don't" in society. Do you want to be irresponsible for having a child you can't take care of or a "murderer" if you spare both of you the suffering?
Abortions out of health reasons and as the aftermath of a crime will never disappear. The only thing that can be done there is to make them as safe, and affordable, as possible. Outlawing them achieves the opposite. Job and monetary safety are policy decisions, but might cause "THAT'S SOCIALISM!" cries. Everything else requires societal change towards more acceptance, with the current climate of the debate not helping the issue. Mostly poisoned by the anti-choice side.

Fine. Then let's leave religion aside, even if it's a favourite argument of abortion opponents. That leaves a whole other section of my comment neither of you engage with: The reasons somebody might decide to have one. You might see it as a simple "life begins at conception and the child has to be protected no matter what." But you are disregarding a whole person there. A whole person that might die or is in severe trauma already. Not to mention that having a child you wanted being born dead is not much better. Please. Defend causing suffering that will not benefit the child, if it were born alive, without religion. If it's truly a purely moral argument, we certainly can engage on that level.

The "doctor" contradicts himself. Most are abnormalities, also 1/3 are teenagers, also many can't afford a child, and here's an anecdote of a single woman that wasn't my patient. It's all garbage excuses for baby murder.

Contradictions and "barely-truths" are all that they have. There is no sane or logical reason to abort a baby, so they twist words upside-down to make it sound like they are some kind of humanitarians when in fact they are the opposite. It is all a desperate attempt to justify either money-grubbing or their own irresponsible behavior to themselves so they can sleep at night.
Slave owners did the same thing in eras past. "They aren't real humans" they told themselves to justify the horrifying things they did. Pro-abortion people are doing the exact same thing. If they can dehumanize something enough, they can justify whatever heinous acts they want. The left is also attempting the same with anyone that disagrees with them. I was born 23 weeks gestation, and I'm pro-choice but if you cannot determined by 23 weeks I don't get it..unless a medical reason such as poor quality of life, the mother health, a real medical reason not just vanity.

In Need of a late term abortion? Can someone explain the term "need" and provide an example? Still not a hero. We can debate abortion all we want and should be debated but c'mon a 3rd trimester fetus is a baby.
I knew of one case
There was this pregnant teenager, 17 or so. The pregnancy triggered an autoimmune disease.
So, there she was a girl dying and suffering. The fetus puts further strain on her body and she would die unless the doctors induce an abortion.
Point is, if the baby is over 20-22 weeks old. There is a possibility it can survive an C-section. Which would save both lives.
3rd trimester is beyond 6 months. There countless examples my upcoming wife is one of them.
These babies can grow into nice productive adult’s. There is no way that can be considered morally right.
At that point it’s just murder. Regardless of rape or the mother’s age.
At that point the young mother should have only 2 options. The baby is now 24 weeks old. We will do C-section we will try to save both. And if he she makes it the young mother has the choice.
She keeps the baby or it goes to foster care.

Honestly though... does anyone have a plan for 1000s of unwanted babies born every year? We gonna make a bunch of fancy orphanages?? Or just throw the mum in jail when she loses her mind one day and suffocates the newborn because she is mentally unwell and alone with no support trying to feed a baby every 2 hours on no sleep for a child she doesn't want. Having a newborn is hard and I was lucky to have a hands on husband that helped but man its hard work. The only thing that helps is the love and obsession you have for your kid. I used to be able to calm down by sniffing my newborns head. Because she is my world. When it was hard I'd dig my nose in and sniff. Many days I wanted to run off and jump infront of a train but I didn't I just kept fighting and now shes 3 years old and awesome as hell and I can't wait to have more kids.
Also how many killer mums have there been that we have all been like "why did anyone allow her to have kids?" Well when you take abortion away that gives them more kids to hurt. Good job government. I know your trying to help but your doing it wrong.

Who says they're unwanted. You do realize the adoption process is SO long of a process that can take years and literally only so many people are accepted per year? Don't you think we need a better program? Don't you think people should stop promoting hook up culture and opening their legs then using abortion as a last resort birth control?
