Found other ways that work just as well most of the time and don't require two people.
The way the water runs over the riffles sets up a resonance wave that persists through the whole sluice. It happens often, it's just not something you expect the first time; the sluice is usually to short to really see it, so this long one gave us the chance

Perhaps you might think about using a paint mixer with a cordless drill to premix the dry "Pailings" with water before you drop it into to sluice box.
