Thank you! I have a light switch that crackles and in general want to replace all light switches and outlets because they are tan and ugly. First time home owner trying to figure out how to do things!
How about dimmers? I apologize, I am binge watching your videos, they are extremely helpful. Please explain if they are interchangeable. You are the ChrisFix of homeownership. Thanks for the video.
You don't have to apologize, that is what they are here for. I would love to be at the level ChrisFix is at some day...1 video at a time but thank you so much for the compliments. As for the dimmer, the steps are exactly the same, just make sure the power is turned off before you try to hook them up because you can burn out the electronics inside that do the dimming. If you have incandescent lights most any dimmer will work. LED bulbs dim pretty well also. Compact fluorescent bulbs sometimes do not play nice with dimmers so read the dimmer box and make sure it will dim the kind of bulbs you have. If you have more question, feel free to let us know. Have fun with all your projects.
I want to change the light switch in my room but the breaker is labeled bedroom/smokes and I also see a green button next to the switch on the breaker that says test.. so I am assuming the bedroom power is hooked up to the smoke detectors that are right outside the bedroom door on the ceiling.. I am a little worried about turning it off and messing with the smoke detectors and causing them to go off or something? Is that possible by turning the breaker off? ( I am so not a handy man, but trying to learn!)
It is possible that the smoke detectors are on the same circuit as the switch you are changing but make sure you test the wires you'll be working with to double check that they are not "hot". As for the smoke detectors, when you turn the power off and then back on they will chirp as power is restored but they should not be damaged from doing that. If your smoke detectors are older, it is possible that the surge from turning the power back on could cause them to start chirping and you would need to change them. They are supposed to be changed ever 10 years anyway. We have a video on how to replace your smoke detectors. Good uck and let me know how it goes.
@@Anyhourservices thank you for your response! I changed out my switch a few weeks ago when I originally posted my comment. I turned the breaker on and off with no problems. Great video!
Back a couple years ago, youtube had this as a feature and then they took it away. Not sure why but it deactivated that on all of the videos we used that feature. sorry for the inconvenience.
I'd like to see a switch video where you have two switches in a box and combine them into one switch. ( I have two bathroom fans and they each have their own switch) lame
Underappreciated channel, helpful and concise video editing. Good job!
Much appreciated!
I love your videos: they are easy to navigate and super helpful!
Glad you like them!

Thanks' hopefully this saves me some money, that is my grandson can do this so we don't have to spend a mass about of money.
I just broke the chain off of my ceiling fan light. It feeds out of the bottom. Would this be the same fix?
Have two white wire on one screw and one black wire on one screw. But no ground wire?
How do I change a switch to a switch/receptacle?

Not sure if it's just me but none of the links in the video work.
