I don't even need to see the Torana for this one despite being a Torana fan and never really much of a HD fan but such a cool looking ute with a 202 fed by triple SU's and a bench seat, easy win for this round for me.
the HD Ute has to take the trophy this year, a shit ton of money can build a stunning thing but to do it for $6 grand is incredible and more in keeping with 90% of car builders out their. SMOTY 21 HD UTE Good luck Chad
Great Ute. Good to see a build that didn’t have a mortgage and can be driven on the street, far to many street machines going to these events on a trailer these days. And there is no way that Torana is street legal
that's awesome to read this i know dad was a legend and would literally give the shirt off his back to anyone but that was him thru my eyes so to read this is awesome .
The ute will certainly resonate with a lot of us- family heirloom, clean and simple, some nice personal touches and a very fitting tribute. Definitely going to be a tight competition this year.
Chad has my vote. Love my Holden Utes, love the sentiment behind it, having lost my Dad this year and it’s cool how such a small budget can get a SMOTY nomination
Of these two I chose Louis Younis' Torana. Chad Ribbons' HR has a great story behind it, re: his dad, the low as you can go budget and the truly home garage built, but as much as it deserves a nomination it is not a SMOTY.
Nice video lads - I definitely think you should be doing more companion content on this channel for the mag. The recent 40th anniversary & LITRE-8 videos were the reason I picked up the latest issue which is probably the first car mag I've bought in about 20 years
blown on street i love it all day bro its all THE other clowns ON THE ROAD THATS the only problem , I REMEMBER TAPPING MY BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES just to make sure they sore my indicator
@@nordic5490 the HD can certainly be street legal engineered for the air ride suspension... The point is that it's street machine for a SMOTY award is should be street legal..
not picking at all mate it was only built to be a tidy cruiser with no prior experience i never expected it to ever get a feature let alone nominated for this so I'm just stoked to be in the running with the level of the other cars .
The HD is traditional in a lot of ways. Which in today’s standards is different… the Torana is… well yeah… don’t get me wrong very nice but generic.. everything seems to have an 8/71 sitting on top these days

The ute is a true street machine, the torana is a drag car.
6k in the top 60
He's won either way.
SRYDAD is my vote
thank you that's exactly how i feel myself i just setout to tidy up dads old ute it has already gone beyond my wildest dreams
the hd for sure !!!!!!!
To be honest i prefer the ute, it is not over done, but still nice, too me the Torana is a bit of over done, no doubt others will disagree.
Hey, l'm 64 years old. From Southern US. My answer for what makes it a street car is, a license plate, windshield wipers, and lights.
The HD.... Amazing car.... that engine bay is insane! Great to see a shiny 6 for a change... all that real estate in that engine bay :) :) :)
Great Ute. Good to see a build that didn’t have a mortgage and can be driven on the street, far to many street machines going to these events on a trailer these days. And there is no way that Torana is street legal
I enjoy both cars but the HD ute is the pick for me. Put together on a budget and with a beautiful Holden engine
HD ute hands down gets my vote!
Home built, slammed with a cranky Holden six........what a classic.... Mint 🦘💪👌
Chad's ute for me. His Dad saved me in that ute once on the GWH.
that's awesome to read this i know dad was a legend and would literally give the shirt off his back to anyone but that was him thru my eyes so to read this is awesome .
@@chadribbons4833 He saved me a few times over the years.
I was upset to hear of his passing.
@@Rhys1600 that's awesome he was definitely one of a kind and it makes me so proud to hear how many peoples lives he touched ,

Torana for me. Good luck to all.
HD for me!
Hd wins its to cool
That Ute is nice
But for a run of the mill blown torana he hit the nail on the head with that black on Black
Both beautiful cars but I think the Ute has a better story 👍
I love a car that's greater than the sum of its parts like the HD Ute.
I reckon we'll see more builds using the Holden 6 .
Chad has my vote. Love my Holden Utes, love the sentiment behind it, having lost my Dad this year and it’s cool how such a small budget can get a SMOTY nomination
thanks for the support mate and sorry to hear about your dad also
Absolutely love it boys. 😎👍 Personally, I'm a softy for sick sixes, so SRYDAD gets my vote.
Of these two I chose Louis Younis' Torana.

Mate I'd have the ute any day pretty sure that's the original colour to
SRYDAD .... top work but still can't see how it only owes him $6k.
Airbags and those rims are $6k.
Top build tho. Well done.
i got the wheels second hand and did all the rest of the work myself so saved heaps there only having to buy parts .
Congrats to all the contenters, these are both are great builds but the Sharp HQ gets my vote this year
I’m a torana man it’s in my blood, but that HD Ute is smoty
Go the HD,one crazy build, love the Magazine and the channel and keep it up mate 👌

Totally agree.
Straight away I see the Left guard on the HD is on wrong! There is no door gap and it's to high!
blown on street i love it all day bro its all THE other clowns ON THE ROAD THATS the only problem , I REMEMBER TAPPING MY BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES just to make sure they sore my indicator
I love those cars
Both are very nice cars! Love that Torana
Hopefully you'll do some interviews my friends in the USA are loving the story's and the car's 🤘👍
These web cam videos Covid is making are shithouse but definitely nice cars and good people.
Got me beat how the Torrie is a "Street machine".
Cops here would bust it in a flash...
It is a great build, not questioning that, but hardly legal.
Yep, it's get red-stickered in seconds if it hit the street here in W.A.
I have a 1967 Holden hr Ute
Both
How is that Torana street legal....
Who cares?
None of them are. Your point is ?
@@nordic5490 the HD can certainly be street legal engineered for the air ride suspension... The point is that it's street machine for a SMOTY award is should be street legal..
yup LJ torana for me the ute is awesome but it needed a few more days of prep before paint i no its nick-picking but there both great Aussie icons

That's we he went 14/71!!! 😁💪
