A worthy winner! A clean and simple ute, (Can you get any more Aussie?), with a humble, touching backstory tribute to a late father and mentor. Well done to Chad, your father would be truly proud of you, the ute and the award. Mark from Melbourne Australia
It’s an interesting change in SMOTY trends… from massive HP, wide tyre pro street cars to money-can’t-buy off the wall elite builds and now to these cool custom cars with special unique touches that see regular street use. This was my pick of the bunch but it doesn’t detract from the very high standard of the other entrants. Congratulations Chad on your awesome effort!
SMOTY has always been voted by the readers and it's always interesting to see which way they will swing year to year. Some years it's crazy street and strip machines or burnout cars, some years it's neat streeters like this. They're always right.
Absolutely mint build, well deserved to a good bloke who seems super humble and down to earth. Tribute to your old man, doesn’t get much better than that! 👌🏼😎
Congratulations......definitely well deserved win, great looking car.....id be lying if i didnt say i had to choke back a couple of tears listening to the story, your dad would be as proud as punch.....good on ya mate and wow what a car....cheers.
I definitely picked this when it was the head to head battle, good to see it won it all. My personal vote was for SICKEST but that's because after seeing it in the flesh at RockyNats, thought it was unbeatable. 👍
Your father would be so proud of you. Congrats on a beautiful build. He is so much like me with the Flip Flops all the time. I wish my kids were into drag racing my gasser. Gonna need someone to carry the torch after Im gone. Good luck young mad you did your father proud.
Congrats Chad, what a great story behind this build. Honestly how good is it to see a Holden 6 in there, and without a turbo!! An absolute Australian Icon from the 48/215 all the way to the humble Commodore. Love it!!
A You Beaut Holden HD Ute. Nice tart up of the old man's run around. Clean, simple and flat on the deck like a card. Well worth the votes and the trophy. 😀👍👍🇦🇺
Nice Job! ya dad would be so proud champ!!! such a beautiful Ute and kept real enjoy it mate well done god bless ya old man he sounded like a top bloke such as yourself..
Well done to the winners of all the cars, not just the st machine of the year owners, plus i know for a fact that they know all each other back in the day, like mike Myers and others who just worked together to try to win the events?
hi about time, a grass roots winner finally .............good job . Or take out a loan for a drag car floor pan 500cuin with 2500hp custom everything = not really a hotrod which is modified production
I’ve painted my 69 XW Ute the same colour as that HR it’s a cool fiat colour, from memory I think it’s called ment’e latt’e, that’s a cool car too I’ve always loved the HRs
@0:34 straight of the bat The Left Door don't line up & it & the Quarter Panel is full of ripples / dents, the Front Bar is bowed like a banana, the Bonnet don't fit at all! Thats just the first shot! The rear Bar is also bent & the Drivers Door looks like a kid installed it! It doesn't even have the bolt's holding the lower front apron on! I'm sorry Mate but to win an award of this caliber it should at least have the basics down pat!

How did it win ? The bonnet isn't even gapped correctly the tailgate has some much bog in it, it can't be gapped properly Smells like BS to me.
Seen this a Bathurst auto fest it’s 🤤🤤🤤
Congrads !!! sorry about your dad :(
Kudo's from me
Nice ute but always hated that color
First
