Thank you Sean - and Alison and thank you whole heartedly for confirming that the College will not be removing the words 'woman' and 'mother' from the guidelines. On that you have our full support. Firstly, the Treaty says nothing about Midwifery as such, so there's that. Secondly, the proposed guidelines uses a new term 'kahu pōkai' for 'midwife' when in fact, we have always used wahine whakawhānau or in some cases the more generalised term for nurse 'tapui'. Whats words got to being healthy? Having a healthy baby is about the words used and that will make more Maori people what? I'm Maori, i had three children in Auckland 1997, 2000 and 2001, 1 in middlemore, 2 at National Women and it was awesome. Excellent care. 2 awesome English midwives. Shared care with the dr and midwife. I listen to the advice. I didn't smoke or drink. I was young and strong. I didn't eat seafood at all or prepared salads or McDonald's even because of food poisoning. I had a good partner who had a JOB. I had my family support. I rested well. Btw NOT SHUTTING DOWN NATIONAL WOMENS HOSPITAL might've helped. Good information on pregnancy. Plunket nurses were awesome support. They don't even have that in Australia. I am a Woman. End of story. Use Wahine if you want to include Maori words not Whanau. Wrong word.
Your experience is wonderful to read but I believe the debate is important as we are looking at fundamental changes to New Zealand that will start at this level. Controlling language is very important as it reframes how things are perceived and thus acted upon…eventually. All best!
OK , The words 'mother' and ' midwife ' are replaced with the word 'whanau ' . So , logically we might assume that the whanau is having the baby , and also performing the midwife role . So , who is taking professional responsibility ? It looks like the word ' no-one ' , doesn't it ?
As an expectant mother, i have been very weary of this issue. I think we already get an amazing level of service from our midwives. I also believe that we are very lucky to be able to choose from a variety of midwives and their talents, beliefs and skill sets. I don’t see how removing mother and woman and replacing it with Māori words will help improve services. I do think that more support for the midwives via funding and more staff would benefit mothers and families more. This is just a joke and so is our virtue signalling government.
When dealing with English speakers speak English, indian mum's to be speak their language, Chinese mum's to be speak Chinese, Maori mum's to be speak Maori - see where that gets us - probably less helpful to the mum's to be! Stop this unnecessary division - divided we fall......
There is nothing "nuanced" about it. Females give birth - and the word for an adult female human is "woman", and the word for a woman who has given birth is "mother". That is clear and unambiguous.
@@eileencoulter6263 Sure I agree this disastrous government needs opposition , but to give birth with even the limited expertise of a midwife would risk an even more serious outcome or your baby

Yeah you might have a point but it would be very hard not interrupt when your subjected to rubbish like this, don’t think I could keep my mouth shut either.
OMG management (especially government departments and tax payer funded entity's) is spending so much time on this sort of nonsense that i have to ask if this is being coursed by having no resources to fix real problems so they have to be seen to do something to justify their salaries?.
Do they think calling it by Maori words, this will help reduce infant mortality rates? Educate the parents so the babies have the best chance of survival - something that in this day of excessive drug use and poor diet would undoubtedly have a far more beneficial impact.
What a load of bs for zero gain. I wasn't brought up using Maori words and I 'choose' not to now. Why try to enforce a language on a country that seems to be not recognised internationally? No point!
Add an extra word in the sentence, you don't remove words from one persons culture to have another, that is a massive cultural and abuse to all mothers and women in the english culture. If you want a maori representation, make a maori version of the education, also the level of ignorance of the fact that maori are also english just shows the immense cultural ignorance of our country. Changing a word from mother to whanau just shows massive ignorance as to what truly is the issue, you need to grow up and stop segregating our races and messing with mixed race families.
So Father is a FARNOW? then? No longer any Father's Day? It's just going to be called FARNOW Day? Same for Mother's Day? Every member of the family, is now not a brother, or sister, or daughter, son, Aunty etc...just a FARNOW? So we throw all those wonderful English words away....and dumb us all down to a faceless non descriptive, meaningless word....FARNOW.....got it.
So the problem is with mortality rates. How does this even remotely solve the problem? How about the focus shifts to why so many Maori live in poverty when nearly all the iwi have been paid out? Why is there so many Maori children living on the breadline? The stretch to this being a solution is so illogical it beggars belief.
If Midwives don't know what a women is then we are in big trouble.

It's amazing how people, who rely on gov't funding, are literally hostage to the fear of dissent. Good on you Sean for persisting - it took Alison 11 minutes to come round to a clear answer to your "yes/No" question.
Maori women already have access to ‘separate’ Maori only midwives.
Why change something that isn’t broken.
I still haven’t met any Pakeha midwives who only cater for Pakeha women.
Well this shows the priorities of government agencies agendas, what happened to the other priorities they spouted over the last 8yrs. Maybe get back to this when government agencies are functional and economic. Fuk it lets do road signs in maiori and we can all drive round lost but vertueous.
When we're speaking English, we're speaking English. Maori words make it into our everyday language but it's an organic process. Let's not have Maori foisted on us by the cringing woke.
For gods sake Craig ...WE LIVE IN A VASTLY INCLUSIVE CULTURAL WORLD NOW MASSES OF DIFFERENT CULTURES.....WE ARE NOT IN A BACKBLOCK OF JUST A BRITISH ENGLISH EMPIRE ANYMORE MATE .....AND MAORI HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED LONG ENOUGH ....THE OPRESSION OF CULTURES AND THEIR LANGUAGES WAS ONCE A WELL WORN WESPONIZED WAR TOOL TO DIVIDE AND CONQUER....WE AREN'T AT WAR ANY LONGER CRAIG ...AND ONE LANGUAGE OVER ANOTHER OR CULTURE IS NOT MORE APT THAN ANOTHER .....AND MIGHT I ADD WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY WHERE ALL PAYTAXES AND ALL HAVE HUMAN RIGHTS AND FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE EXTEND TO MAORI INCLUSION NOT JUST YOUR STRICT IDEAS MATE...GO TO CHINA AYE.
It’s sad because the jamming down the throat te reo will only cause more division and set back years of integration instead as you said allowing an organic evolution of the language.
Brilliant work Sean 🙌
Changing names of organisations and word definition is all our toothless government does
Whats words got to being healthy? Wrong word.
Yeah , good input is rewarded with good outcomes .
Your experience is wonderful to read but I believe the debate is important as we are looking at fundamental changes to New Zealand that will start at this level.
Controlling language is very important as it reframes how things are perceived and thus acted upon…eventually.
All best!
Scrap it out and throw it away
Im going to be a mother .And if I wish you will call me a mother .People can't speak their mind anymore because they lose their jobs fact.
You honesty can't be serious, what the f#ck has this world come to
Could be worse, they might use birthing person
That'll be next.
That's coming soon
The Mothers were a bikie gang from Palmerston North. 😂
HaHa
Also "just another band from L.A."
OK , The words 'mother' and ' midwife ' are replaced with the word 'whanau ' . So , logically we might assume that the whanau is having the baby , and also performing the midwife role . So , who is taking professional responsibility ? It looks like the word ' no-one ' , doesn't it ?
It all goes back to time and time again ....This Government...Oh dear.!
One more year...
That is clear and unambiguous.
what a load of BS from Alison
If a mid wife said that to me, I'd say good bye,I'm a European woman ,end of story
I wouldn't do that There are no other midwives (a shortage due to serious underfunding)
@@Eohippus100 oh yes I would ,that's the problem no one stands up to this bullshit and it's gets worse for every woman
@@eileencoulter6263 Sure I agree this disastrous government needs opposition , but to give birth with even the limited expertise of a midwife would risk an even more serious outcome or your baby
I think poor Alison's job depends on her denying certain facts.
She was clearly professionally gagged.
I thought you handled it well.
Generally I applaud your persistence, but this woman was a professional spokesperson whereas the undertaker was just a bloke who was a human, deeply concerned about what he was observing in his work.
This removing of woman and mother I find an inexcusable insult to me as a mother and a woman I do not think this is going to help anyone.
New Zealand 🇳🇿 has been run into the ground by successive governments while billions has been squandered on the bogus treaty industry, get rid of it New Zealand 🇳🇿, vote it out. Binding Referendum.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions (aka inclusivity)
Absolute crap. We all need to fight politicly correct crap whenever we come across it.
Hi Sean, what happened to the interview with Lynda Wharton. I thought the platform was independent, apparently not. Or did youtube put the heavies on you guys? Head over to rumble maybe?
How many men have given birth?
Stick around they will produce some half baked story
None ever in the history of the universe.
@@olsim1730 - the male sea horse gives birth though.
@@NA-sj9jy touche'
I did know that..thanks for reminder 🙏
Whether or not a seahorse identifies as a "man" is between you and the seahorse though..haha!
Good they aren’t going to get rid of Mothers or Women!
Mother hood is a special vocation! I still love my mum and I am nearly 70 years old, mum has passed on God Bless her! Love you Mum!
Surprisingly my Mother was a Woman and not a TGXYZQTR*$#…..what ever that is. I am so pleased my mother was a woman!!!!!!!
FFS!
What a load of crap. Changing out mothers/ women is crazy. They are scared to be straight talkers.
Midspouse surely
Hey , you are either CENSORING your blog or yooootooob are, which one is it??
Nooooo... don't go woke
Thanks Sean, and this is meant to be constructive - can you not see how often you cut off the person you are talking with, and not let them finish their sentence? I don't think it's a good way of conducting an interview. If anyone else agrees with me on this, please let Sean know by thumbing up this comment.
Yeah you might have a point but it would be very hard not interrupt when your subjected to rubbish like this, don’t think I could keep my mouth shut either.
FFS Sean, it doesn't stop
OMG management (especially government departments and tax payer funded entity's) is spending so much time on this sort of nonsense that i have to ask if this is being coursed by having no resources to fix real problems so they have to be seen to do something to justify their salaries?.
Hahaha. It sounds like Alison private opinion is different from her public one lol
Go woke go broke.
Do they think calling it by Maori words, this will help reduce infant mortality rates? Educate the parents so the babies have the best chance of survival - something that in this day of excessive drug use and poor diet would undoubtedly have a far more beneficial impact.
I would never go back to using with this crazy woke-ism !
Aren’t ordinary people absolutely sick and tired of the woke BS? Time to take a stand and tell them where to stick all of their woke crap!
What will they name men giving birth?
Wahimen
Men can't give birth , only women identifying as men, they are still women
@@annethomson4920 according to the woke left lbqtxyz#123 community men can get pregnant and give birth.
Wharepaku?
freaks
What a load of bs for zero gain. I wasn't brought up using Maori words and I 'choose' not to now. Why try to enforce a language on a country that seems to be not recognised internationally? No point!
That's why there's a maori health system and that system left me disabled due to lack of treatment and incontinence hope they don't kill babies.
That was like Neo in slow motion.
So the problem is with mortality rates. How does this even remotely solve the problem? How about the focus shifts to why so many Maori live in poverty when nearly all the iwi have been paid out? Why is there so many Maori children living on the breadline? The stretch to this being a solution is so illogical it beggars belief.
This just sexist bs. The irony!!
