I am surprised that the models with ESP/TC cannot move the 4th wheel when its on dry pavement and the other 3 wheels are on the rollers. You would think it would be an easy to program with ESP/TC. Overall both the non ESP/TC and ESP/TC Rav4 and Subaru are great AWD vehicles, and plough through very difficult conditions. The Rav4 had a factory rear Torsen LSD option which was super rare (which would not activate on rollers probably), but even better there is an aftermarket electronic locking rear-locker available for them (which could easily activate on these rollers).

Like your videos! I was wondering is there a chance to test the Mini Countryman first gen (2010-2017 R60) all4? Considering that second hand ones are more and more affordable, they are starting to be an interesting option (for light use) but nevertheless it would be interesting to see how they perform.
Just imagine putting a big mirror on the other side of the car so that you need to use only a single camera. This would be inconvenient as you need to handle the physical mirror but with two cameras you just mirror one of them in software. With your current approach one needs to do the mirroring in their mind. Also the icon which shows which wheels are free is rotated and thus you need to rotate it in your mind - one more visual task for your mind. Just my 2 cents...I like your videos!

When car is moving forward - if you look at driver's side it is going to the left, if you look at passenger's side it is going to the right. That's natural. Mirror - how could camera see the mirror if it was on the other side of the car? Icon is directed up - that's neutral for both views. Thank you!
The mirror, of course, would be (at vertical level) slightly above the car and tilted so that it projects the other side of the car into the camera :) Agree about the natural part but still you cannot be simultaneously in two different positions :)
Very interesting video. Seems a myth is busted: old suvs are way better than new ones (I mean suvs not real 4x4). Actually most of modern suvs perform better this test where Rav4 failed 2 times. Ok, Subaru succeeded, but not very easy and not in all situations. I've expected much better. They still have the advantage of ground clearance and angles but transmission seems to be very rudimentary.
Its all because of open differentials. With limited slip ones both woupd never be stuck like this as power wont go to least grippy wheel as it happens in open diff cars

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers I could tell. Mine has the automatic central diff lock and it performs much better than that one lol. It's a great test though! Good to see you've done one with the rav and forester. My mate has a Forester and we're always bantering with each other saying who's car is better 😂I'd show him this but the rav lost. I'm sure if it had the diff lock like mine it'd perform much better

which is infuriating. subaru's drivetrain is amazing but needs a more reliable engine to mate with it. only way the boxer engine is more fullproof is by dumping a lot of aftermarket parts and work on it.
@@atranimecs its a shame, but the boxer engine head gasket issue is a result of the residual fluids remaining when the engine is turned off. They sit against the gasket, since the head and pistons are on their side, and slowly eat away at the gasket over time. In an inline engine the fluids run down and the gasket is spared.
Most of the time the forester didn’t even spin a full rotation and got off the rollers. Rav is spinning like crazy then moves off, embarrassing. Subaru does have one of the best AWD there is,rav has a cool something, not sure exactly but….
Looks about the same to me.... but even if the Subaru showed way better on this-- I'd much prefer the RAV4--- it's a TOYOTA and will last forever-- the Subaru won't. THey use to be good- but now are pretty much JUNK as far as I"m concerned. Subarus sound like they're going to fly apart trying to get up on the freeway.. and feel cheap. (although they are far from it).. I LIKE subaru- and sold them for a while- but they are just NOT what they use to be.

First - awd system itself - in this case Subaru has much more sophisticated system with active clutch-pack which can lock the center diff while Rav4 awd system is the same as basic one in Subaru with viscous center differential. Second - you can't switch the ESP off in Rav4 - that means the system is cutting power and nothing you can do about it.

Should use the same driver for both vehicles. Rav driver seems to floor it from the start whereas Subaru driver seems to accelerate slowly.
That's what systems do, that's what systems allow for.

I have 2004 RAV4 and only down thing in it is that ESP can't be turned off. With manual box and four wheel drive I think it needs that magic button.

If Forester was with MT, Rav have no one chance. Because mehanic transmission Subaru have locking differential and 50/50 moment
