I think the story is that a meteor strikes into the mushroom world and four crystals are found, they are splitted into trophies for creating a tournament. Which makes the sports mix. The Final Fantasy characters tried to steal the star trophies for preventing all the trophies been turned into the 4 crystals together. That makes behemoth appear. But they defeaten behemoth, the crystal turned into rainbow color. And they decided to create a four-in-one tournament for the rainbow crystal.
This brings back a ton of memories, this game is super underrated
