  • #AusArmy soldiers from Regional Force Surveillance Group (RFSG) Pilbara Regiment are trialling surveillance robots to patrol and monitor the nation's north.
The Ground Uncrewed System, or GUS, is an uncrewed surveillance system that can be out in the field for around 30 continuous days.
The technology is supporting RFSG to keep an eye on areas with difficult terrain across a broader distance.
Feedback from the trials will help Outlook Industries to improve the current prototype.

If the objective of this is long range recon in the field, it needs to be smaller, more camoflauged, with ability to self recharge and stay out weeks or even months at a time. It should also have a carry on air drone it can launch and retrieve if needed. It should have a six wheel config like a mars rover to transverse extreme terrain, and the ability to "crouch down" and become invisible. IR dampening is also a must so the heat signature won't give it away.

All fine and dandy if you have a multi-million dollar budget. But I agree it needs to be lower to the ground with six wheels the stability would greatly increase and be more effective at hiding. Infrared long range camera for surveillance. GPS tracking system to find it if it goes missing. Ability for personnel to use radio contact too if need be. Be able to talk to anyone who finds the unit to warn them to stay away or be prosecuted. Even a weapon or two ?????????? Carry emergency supplies like water and food would be handy. Maybe a lighting system to attract lost people at night which can be turned off and on. But that's just bells and whistle talk !!!!

A static point surveillance tower is easily found and targeted, and taken out, once put in placed doesn't move and an easy target.
We own no satellites, so are dependent on a country that does to use them, and at their mercy.
To put enough towers across the coastline would be prohibitively expensive, add in all the empty space in the interior.
Each tower would need regular maintenance and itself need to be monitored, for security.

If a force hits the ground in this country in any real threat level size it will come from above hard , fast and with enough severity that GUS will be no doubt a smoking mess of shrapnel long before it does any good to my fellow service men and women let alone any Australian on civi street. The money spent on this would be better served allowing us to be better armed and trained at a community level, for no where on the East or West coast of this country has a truly safe fall back position and our populations ability to fight in a coordinated efforts with our military has been diminished to the point of being useless for decades. We have a defense force in severe decline due to our service people being used as guns for hire then hung out to dry. We have a defense force that is more concerned with your pronouns over whether or not you are fit for duty. We have a defense lead team who are trying to import people to fill def jobs. A piece of machinery that would likely as I stated do net Zero for the digger on the ground isnt making lives better and will have a likely useless role to play outside of close in urban combat. A scenario I highly doubt will occur with an opposing force and most likely would be used against the very people funding it. The Australian taxpayer. People have no idea how many illegal boats come and go around the north west of WA. It's physically impossible to monitor all of the West Aussie coastline for small boats no matter what they tell you.
A lot of the people we came across were usually Indonesian fisherman etc. I don't think they had any intention of staying, they would fish in the Aussie waters and sometimes land their small boats on shore for rest, relaxation and sometimes repairs to their boats etc. Occasionally you would see them walking around some of the small coastal towns up there, you couldn't miss them, they stood out like dog's balls from the rest of the population haha.

He 1st checked the date to see if it was a April fools joke.
I couldn't find a price per unit cost BTW.

The north of Australia is seriously under populated and now we are neglecting manned patrols for automation,
For f--k's sake just draft 500 thousand young Australians straight out of high school for mandatory national service in a national guard core and station them across the north an north west,
so the army's troops can train to fight modernised war on our northern periphery
The adf has some serious problems of trying to do more with less an bad RELEVANCE syndrome create another fighting force or TERRITORIAL defense group separate from the adf
To help protect the northern frontier of Australia

No service person wants to serve alongside someone who has been drafted......this is not my opinion but my old mans who served in the ADF for over 30 years including in special forces and served both in East Timor and Afghanistan as well as the opinions of many if not all the soldiers I have had contact with during my old mans service. Mandatory service will only make the ADF less capable purely because kids today refuse to do anything they don't want to do regardless of the situation......imagine someone with that mentality in a position where they have to defend Australia or those around them, they will freeze up and get people killed.

It's not "under populated" it's a friggin desert that's inhospitable to life in general and only able to support minimal population density at best. Why do you want more mouths to feed, why do you want your share and your childrens share of the finite resources available to go down.
Then you want to force 500 thousand people into servitude in hostile terrain and you expect that to be a good thing? You want to turn the Australian military from a highly regarded professional and effective force into one whose only goal is trying to keep half a million people (I don't know where you are getting that many people from) from deserting or worse? Drafting people is not the answer to a labour shortage. Pay people well. Don't screw them over after they join. Do things worth believing in and fighting for. Presto, labour problem solved.

And are more precise and accurate to find out where long range ballistic or atmosphere air space launched missiles like the next shipments then relaying back to the communication satellite link although the best area's are the most secured bases such both main the navy base a little bit easier but it's the airforce bases to not only to get to the computer systems but to find out where the airforce bombers air launched heavy missiles are stored and yuh homie can you give a homie holla out to mah australian defense forces homies the 1st google defense australia yuh homie Oi💛💯🌏🇦🇺🦘🐨🕊✌🎓🥇☝💪🥊🐲🥋⛑⚓⚖🛡🗡🦁👑🚀💀🪖🚨🚧🔦🤚👮‍♂️👮‍♀️🛰🚁🛸🪂🚑🚒🚓🏍💨💥💥💥💥🔥🔥🤟😎.
