I hope people know how old this set up is. Can't really compare a decade build to today's builds. Much respect out for Brent still. ANY body here who hates, talks about this car that car, always a faster car out there has never ever even felt single digit drag cars. Anything auto should always have respect in the auto community. A real enthusiast would understand.
Blake Knutsen How can you compare a non factory custom built billet v8 topfuel engine to a modified production 4 cylinder engine using methanol? These topfuel engines don't resemble any factory v8 I know of and the only thing in common is the engine layout.. You could fairly make a comparison if there were nitro 4 cylinder drag cars currently competing.
I know Brent personally and help build his new shop. This car is the shit and he was happy to show me every detail of it on a rain day. He hand fabricated most of this car. He designed the waste gate system that lets him get out of the hole the way he does. Think about 1500hp that can run down the track time and time again without a tear down.
Dsms are great, get a gsx, get a boost controller and tune and run 12s. Its so easy, it literally is that easy with the tiny 14b or t25/t28 turbo. Beat z06s all day that cost 20 times your ride, ive beat vipers, porsche 911 gt3s (2014 model), m6 bmws, gt500s. its ridiculous the amount of power this little engine can take, i dont expect a mustang without more work to pull off such an easy "build" of a boost controller and a tune. for 122 cu, its a mighty little engine.
power to weight is ALL that matters. A fast car is a fast car. By the time you get everything together you are using shit from ten different aftermarket parts suppliers anyways. I don't understand the brand loyalty thing..
+Josh Denham Well you have to have a platform right? Is the Honda world's fastest? They are everywhere, way more hondas than Mitsubishis, so yes having a stout platform to start with as a base makes a difference. But as soon as you can make any other 4 banger just as fast make sure and post in the replies. I am sure you can do it with even just a Yugo, right?
+RyTrapp0 Horsepower is what gets the job done, you are absolutely correct. You can have 1500ft lbs of torque to the ground, but if your wheels are only spinning at 5 rpm... you're getting jack squat done.
Yessir. The engine in his Pontiac is a Chevy Ecotec 4 cylinder. Found in Chevy Cavaliers. Yet they said that the Cavi engines are junk, yet it is one of the fastest and most powerful 4 cylinders on the planet when maxxed.
Congratulations!!!!!!! Excellent video excellent job !!!!! Magnus Brent and the CREW NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for giving this chanse to us about putting this video here!
Brent Rau's record was 6.82 actually, so that datsun isn't the fastest.. Plus there are 2 car's that are faster than even Brent Rau's Eclipse... GM made a car that does a 6.43 and there is a Mazda RX8 that did a 6.27
Said nobody ever about the majority of Ferraris, McLarens, Corvettes, the GT500, Saleens... And yes all if those have been modified along with countless other supercars. Dont get me wrong an AMS 1000hp Evo, Crawford 1000hp STI, or 1000hp Bismoto SI are all fun to dream about, but I find it extremely hard to believe any of those can go 10-20K miles on the same internals w/o needing a rebuild. Yes its impressive but so is twice the HP output from twice the motor. Name a 4banger putting out more HP/Liter than a 3000hp V8 and I'll go hide under a rock.
ITsIMP0RT4NT As my old man always told me; "Kids now are building what they can with what they have. When I was a kid we did what we could with what we had." All cars deserve a chance whether you have a TT Lambo or a DSM.
+"Turbo Kid860" John Mihovetz(youtube it) running 5.80s with production aluminum 4.6l Ford V8 block, production DOHC GT500 heads, and production crank. yea, boring...
i bet a lot of blood sweat and tears went into that machine that is something to be proud of dude soooo many people under estimate 4cyls PROPS DUDE NOTHING BUT RESPECT
@sirromrecords it is a 4 banger. what they did is changed the alignment of the motor so that it can be rwd instead of awd. the motor now goes with the length of the car and not from the left to the right.
Proud owner of a 96 eclipse! The eclipse stands up above all other! To hell with all others! Got a question though! Got any ideas why mine over reving while in park or neutral? It runs up to 40000 sometimes! Replaced all sensors on throttle body!
read up on this car in a magazine it was in, 2100lbs "back halved" misleading as only stock structural components left are the fire wall and floor pan. Used to be awd but kept braking parts so converted to a rwd with a ford 9". This let them find more power without breaking stuff. It runs lots of classes but record times are set on a 14.5 slick. Phenomenal car and build just make sure you read kiddies, remember Tim Lynch's mustang runs 6.4s on a 10.5 slick at 3100 lbs.
@jbreu2 its just a general rule that the more volume you have, the less pressure you need to get the same result. I'm not saying that exactly 15psi on a v8 = 30psi on a 4 cylinder...but because a v8 is bigger you get the same result with less pressure.
@deadchild66669 No they were all FWD or AWD. You can basically remove the front axles (Totally wrong way btw) to force all the power to the rear. But given the power it's putting out it's probably moved the engine from transverse to longitudinal.
@Warblade118 no its because top fuel runs on nitromethane which is 40% more oxigenated then c16 race gas..which is what this eclipse runs on....and this motor is also on the production eclipse 4g63 block ..top fuel engines has no relation to any production engine other then being a V8 and is a complete custom built engine..and top fuel cant drive 1/2 mile before needing a full rebuild..this eclipse motor will last half the season at least..yes it is expensive but not as much as u may think..
@AE1 Sorry but it doesn't matter that it's a 4 cylinder just like it doesn't matter that a top fuel car is an 8 cylinder. It doesn't matter how many cylinders you have, it matters how much air you can push though the engine, and when your cylinder walls are 6 inches thick, that tends to be a piece of cake no matter how many cylinders you have. Whether it be 4 or 8 or 16, it's all the same, you have to do A to get B. They did A, they got B. A=building an engine that can take 86psi.
I don't think people read the video captions. The car was RESTRICTED to a smaller turbo to compete with V8's. They ADDED weight to the car so it would be more or less even with the V8's. Won 1s't place in All 7 races he attended. And even if that wasn't enough, It reset the world record 3 times in 1 year? This is a godly 4 banger. It'll race with V8's anyday.
@zx636d6f How does he keep the front wheels on the road? Surely there would be serious tire squeal in all of the gears! Not to mention the torque steer as well...
@OOQRA This car is a UNI-body so the rear half of the frame is still there. His Subframe was Modified to mount up a ford 9" rear end and some new suspension. Plus some bracing for added strength. I have up close in detail pics of Brent Rau's car if you would like me to e-mail them to you :)
I gotta agree with Chris on this one. They are powerful motors stock. Anything else you build for the drag strip first thing someone does is throws a more powerful motor in it. Nobody has EVER swapped a 4g63 motor for anything "more powerful"
@imurjesus1, pistons will never fuse to the heads due to heat. the pistons never touch the heads anyway...but even if they did, the pistons are constantly moving.. as for the V8 comments in here....some of you people are just ignorant. a 30psi 4 banger beating a 15psi v8? For reference, ive seen 700whp LS2 V8's only running 6psi. I cant say ive seen those numbers for a 30psi 4 cylinder car unless they did a lot more work (IE ported heads, larger valves, bigger cam(s), etc)
they also have vw bugs that are tiny 4 bangers and they run low 6s all day with the stock motors in them bored out. a bunch are 8 second daily drivers thats no joke either
2:41, if you would please turn your attention to the back of the car, you will notice that it still burns rice, just not as much as normal. (it appears as though it only burned 2 grains.)
@stuntcc It's a 4G63T, AKA 2.0Liter Turbo Inline 4 Cylinder. Most likely it's twin because of the insane torque. But if it's Single then the turbo is larger than the back tire on a 66 Chevy.
Don't listen to that troll. his whole life is a video game. And you were right all along, it is longitudinal. One look in any dictionary will back you up.

Fuckin good ass tech. 86 lbs boost an 11000 rpm. I think I just pood myself a little
+killfase01 It is a sick build, purpose built to just go straight for a few seconds, but very sick
86 PSI :O That's 6 Bars. OMG. Death on wheels.

Regan D the topfuel dragsters are based on the chrysler 318. Watch a documentary and they put out not a puny 1400hp but an insane 10,000hp LOL
+RyTrapp0 And all it took is something over two times the displacement? Wow. Impressive.
MARCO thanks so much for the manifold, and congrats for the result

this is how we do in Puerto rico. for ya 8cyl, hold this L bruh.

@Mr B lmaooo yea ik now bro i was 13 when i commented that 🤣🤣
@Mr B either way they aren't in Australia which sucks if you reallyyyy wanted one you needa import one and most of em are thrashed either way

Hate to tell you this but a 3g eclipse ran 6.529 @214 Aug 26 2015
The car is a tube frame and fiberglass body. It's also rear wheel drive, as anyone who knows Eclipse's would see immediately.

@WeNeedFoodPlease how many cars in the sixes are running the original frame? (and dsmeclipsegsx is right about the behind the firewall)
Brent Rau and Jon Sheppard are going to be hard to knock off. They have been around since the mid nintys. And still tearn shit up!!!!

same question for a gsx?

@shimrra Thanks for your concern, this is an old video. Next year in 2010 he ran 6.86 @ 200 mph. God knows what it is in 2011.
86 PSI!?!?!? highest boost i've ever herd of. this is amazing

enlightened me please if you would on the matter...
what type of transmission was that he was using?
is it power glide>

The Rayglass Toyota Celica is a 4-cyl from NZ ran a 6.90 sec, this was in 2008.
i like your enthusiasm
So is there a new video of this 4 cylinder in 2011, because in 2010 our rotary made a 6.58 1/4 mile run.
Jeez! That has the same power as the turbo F1 engines from the '80s, and they were spending millions on their v10s and v12s!
haha thanks for the music, my 2 year old was dancing the whole time!
@imurjesus1, pistons will never fuse to the heads due to heat. the pistons never touch the heads anyway...but even if they did, the pistons are constantly moving..

I've seen this car in person and heard it in person too... INSANE
they also have vw bugs that are tiny 4 bangers and they run low 6s all day with the stock motors in them bored out. a bunch are 8 second daily drivers thats no joke either
I wish someone would attempt a build like this again with modern tech.
ye but wat is the displacement on this engine?, im betting its over 2litre

@thujunkyarddog it's a half-back... not solely a 'shell'... ...it's still an eclipse.
@bmxstreet6 this is no eclipse, basic thing that defines a eclipse is, transverse mounted engine, awd system. this is a drag car with a eclipse engine
I give this car a 10 out of 10...great job guys...KEEP THE 4g63 alive!!!!!!!
is this still a 2.0L or 2.4L engine? 4G63 i know is GST/GSX which are 2.0L
@stuntcc It's a 4G63T, AKA 2.0Liter Turbo Inline 4 Cylinder. Most likely it's twin because of the insane torque. But if it's Single then the turbo is larger than the back tire on a 66 Chevy.

2300hp.
you sir have been 1uped by this man.
unless you post a vid you dring down the street in this
also, how often do you do rebuilds on this? every 3-5 runs?
i have a 1994 eclipse and i have a dohc 2000 16 valve was wondering if that is stock?
@karsown The block is still the original cast iron block. And the head, will be a close cousin to the stock one, just ported. But of course, its a race car. So everything will have been built for going fast, not daily driving.

Man had balls the size of grapefruit. To bad he died about a month ago.
Hints why it says first to run 6's? Or did you miss that part?
This turbo making his work nicely...
how do you guys keep the head on :)
that's nuts!!! looks like fun.
whats its quickest time to date?
when he got 4.46sec that was 1/4 mile ? or 1/8 mile?
Are you saying that the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 has a 4 cylinder engine? Im not really following what you said
I think it's a 2.0L 4G63, just heavily modified. Like a 4g64 is a 2.4L motor from the convertible Eclipse.
lol no kiddin all tubes good fabrication sounds insanely awesome
new mitsubishi commercial "Introducing a not-so-stock rocket"
@94XJ
boost is relative to the size of the turbo, intake, manifold, heads, etc...
These numbers arent exact, its just a general comparison, say you had a 4 cylinder at 30 psi, the same effect on a v8 would require 15 psi.
I think its more about proving what a 4-banger can do, rather than doing what everyone knows can be done.
What type of transmission do you use?
Hey I love the video and love eclipses. I myself have a 1997 eclipse gsx 5 speed and its just stock right now but if you could give me a few tips or few ideas on what would be the best parts to get for it id really appreciate it I have a video of it on my channel and help would be much appreciated thank you.
this video makes me proud to be a DSM owner
Sooo, what part of that car is actually from a mitsubishi eclipse?
HOW MANY LITERS DOES THE ENGINE HAVE???!
Ok these numbers don't make any sence to me they figure every 14 psi should double the power so its goes into 86 just over 6 times that means the base engine should be doing diong around 233hp not bad but thats horrible at 11k rpm am I missing something or is the peak hp at like 7k rpm and the rest is just good over rev for use of gearing?
I have never been scared of a 4CL car before, into NOW.
Read up about this car, originally had awd, but it kept blowing things apart, so a a Ford 9" was put in
insane that they getting so much power out of four cylinders.
did that 4 cylinder come stock with that turbo? cuz man that thing is huge
You guys did this to a 2g? No crank walk? How?
wow so nice car friend
Less than 7 seconds at almost 200 mph is no joke.
How big is the turbo charger?
If I was behind the wheel of one of those, I'd be in the guiness book of records for the world's fastest shit ever taken.
WoW first 4 cylinder car im giving respect to, damn thats fast
That thing sounds like a demon is coming out of the exhaust. Dirty comes to mind.
how many kilometers life for that engine with that mods?
@RaGeSwAgE thanx ,, mm Pleas can you tell me the best number in the drag race for the Japanese engines
The Kiwi's and Australianz are creeping up there with some powerful 4g63 powered Toys...
Really awesome....great job
