    1. This video only having 178 views is insane for this quality of production. Liked and subscribed. Incredible stuff
    2. Totally agreed that the Remake/Rebirth ending are incredible, but I cannot imagine how semi-infuriating these games would be for either someone who a) Never played the original FF7 or b) Only played FF7 and didn’t take in any bonus content.
The timeline manipulation and combination is so cool and awesome for a serious FF7 fan who’s watched every second of content, but good lord it is such less compelling and coherent story telling if being viewed in a relative vacuum

big time. the format of the narrative is turning into a pretty big captain hindsight style problem. remake, and especially rebirth, really are love letters to the longtime/hardcore fans. but they've also alienated a decent chunk of that core audience with the story changes. on the other side, going into this blind has to be extremely confusing for new players. there are definitely times where the games expect you to have a prior understanding of what's going on. its great for nerds like me that know all about damn near 30 years of lore, but for a lot of other people, not so much. ya, looking back, its not a great strategy at times lol.

Rebirth was great but still nervous about how they're going to wrap up the new story.

Amazing video man, I always get excited when you upload one since the Elden Ring video that made me found your channel. I agree with almost all your criticisms, and even tho I played the original just 10 years ago, I really enjoyed Rebirth for all my 150hrs I've put into it, hopefully they can stick the landing and fill the gaps the story has that make it feel weird and convoluted. Also, you made me dislike Return to Nibelheim even more, I didn't remember how atmospheric and dark it felt in the original.

Loved the video. One other theory is that post-death Aerith is not a Jenova illusion, but rather the "future" Aerith being there in spirit form to be there for Cloud to protect him from breaking down mentally and to continue the journey. This is a big change and a setup for Sephiroth to break him at the Northern Crater during his interpretation of the Nibelheim incident with Tifa staying quiet during the flashback. I think it'll all come together with the Lifestream sequence with Tifa when Cloud faces the truth of his past and identity while accepting the losses he had experience in the past (Zack, Aerith's death, Nibelheim, etc).

53:14 it’s on purpose that Zack’s appearance does not make any difference because he is in the lifestream. The ‘multiverse’ is in the lifestream. Zack and Aerith will unite in the lifestream and help the main party as they did in OG and CC, it was just assumed and not shown. Re series is just showing us what was assumed before.

Man I feel like your explanation of the ending somehow made it even more complicated, and yet didn't explain as much (as some other theories).
The theory that seems to make the most sense to me, and explains pretty much everything we see, is that Aerith DID survive in a separate world, and at the end of the game we're simply seeing the fact that Cloud can see into multiple worlds, so it looks as if they've been superimposed on top of each other. That theory explains pretty much everything. It explains why Red specifically also senses her (she gave Red some of her mojo in Remake), it explains the crack in the sky (the crack in the sky is in that second world with Aerith, but not in the main world).
They also recently patched Remake to change some dialogue in the end cutscene, which seems to have been done purely to indicate the fact that Aerith could see into the other worlds herself. So that fits as well. She had the ability to see into the other worlds, and she gave that ability to Red and Cloud. Red only has a limited remnant of it though, because as they explain earlier in the game, the whispers stole it from them. I feel like this explains pretty much everything, and is simpler that most other explanations too. It's just they presented it in a bit of a messy way.
I do think you're pretty much correct about the second timelines though, in that they're ultimately not going to mean much, and they're probably all going to be destroyed by the end. They were essentially just a way of trying to add some mystery and suspense to the story, whilst also included some fan service around some of the main characters (which is yet another reason why aerith surviving in a second timeline seems likely to me: because she has to have her reunion with Zack in part 3. That's totally why he's still alive. It's his only real remaining purpose.)

I just want Aerith to get a shot at life, even if it is in another timeline were the rest of the gang died. And she'll be seperated from her new friends and both Zack and Cloud so fans can keep speculating on the "love triangle" :P But she'd still get to live a new life and make new friends, find new love etc. And it wouldn't brake the canon in the "og" timeline. But just that she'll get a shot a living a full life is all i'm asking for.
But there is also the thing which i thought of even back in Remake, the whispers and the notion of defying fate could all be a red herring, as you say. So narrativley "oh they have a chance to do things differently" yet the chips still end up falling into place. But if that were the case, her entire death arch was done horribly.
If she was just meant to die anyway, using the convoluted plot and the multiversal /multidimensional 1 hour boss battle and all of the bait and switch was completly unneccesary. They could have had the boss battle take place at the temple of the ancients, triggering her desire to go to the city..... maybe even have Cid be the one to take her there.... Hence he would then have a reason to join the gang, out of guilt.... And then just end the game with the gang running in and seeing Cloud holding her body instead of this convoluted overloading stuff.
    Good video.

I actually started as a hater with all the different timelines, then accepting it only to become really intrigued in the final part of the story. And i hope it all pays out because we were robbed of one of gaming's most iconic moments.

I would bet big money that we are not being robbed, we will see it in full when Cloud ultimately has to come to terms with it either at the Northern Crater or the Lifestream sequence. There is straight up a game in the ending credits with the highlights from the game where Aeriths burial would be, and they are 100 % going to show us. They already did really quickly at the end of Remake when fighting the Arbiter of fate in chapter 18.

The original Final Fantasy 7 was on PS2 not PS1. @Swoop Goose

thats not true at all lol. i think youre getting two games confused because the original ff7 was 100% a ps1 game. it came out like 3 years before the ps2 was even released.

The ps2 did not exist yet in 1997 when OG ff7 came out. It was 100% on Ps1. FF10 was the first ps2 title

No one ever mentions how cloud literally wears black instead of purple. He's obviously an alternate version

No, he's wearing the same purple that Zach wears. It's not as cartoonishly saturated as it was in OG, but it's definitely purple
