"This game was more disappointing than anything else." Same thing for me. Not a horrible game, just way below the quality I was hoping the game would be. I'll have to actually watch this later today, but good start to the vid.
Finished watching the video, and that was great. You hit all the issues, and even addressed some common responses from those that enjoyed the game to those issues. I’m glad you brought up Yara dying shortly after you save her (and go on a quest that takes hours to save her). I liked your idea on basically just killing her, then using Lev to fill in the blanks to lead into the island part of the game. I definitely didn’t enjoy the gameplay as much as you did (it got way too repetitive and dull after a few hours of it - not enough variety for a 25 hour game imo) but the game is visually stunning. It’s also ironic that voice actors get so much flack for the game. Number 1, it’s insane to send death threats over a game, period. Number 2, the voice acting was one of the best things about the game. The actors delivered on their part imo, and most people I’ve seen even critique the game will bring it up. Of course even if you’re someone that thought the acting sucked, again it’d be ridiculous to still send death threats over it. Overall great video!
@@MartinGV2007 TLOU is a shorter game than TLOU2, so that's why the style they went for works better for the first. Yes, TLOU2 makes some improvements gameplay wise, but ultimately suffers from boring levels, and because you're in the same setting for 20 hours it's pretty bad. Last of Us had a very good balance between stealth sections, exploring, forced fights, cutscenes, and the length kept it from ever feeling boring or repetitive. Areas change as you move from place to place as well as seasons. It's why it works for me better overall as a game. Plus just has far better characters that keep the slower moments interesting. Again, all in my opinion of course.
This was the best critique of LOU2 I've seen on YT. Really hit the nail on the head multiple times in terms of the story, character, and general writing flaws; knocked it out of the park on the controversy surrounding the game. Haven't heard anyone talk about how Druckman exhumed some of his previous story ideas and repurposed them into Abby's motivation. You are so underrated it's a crime. Mad props
Unfortunately, I am too bullheaded enough to even give it a try. I decided I wasn't gonna play... And here I am in 2022 still holding fast. Wish I didn't care about the game and just could get into it. But I can't.
The clip with Neil D on the original phonemes for TLOU is really eye opening for me. It appears this ended up becoming another George Lucas situation with the prequels.
this game is such a head scratcher, don't really love it, don't really hate it. left me quite speechless, but this video said it all really well. thank you for this one 😊
Hi. Do you still make videos? I’m sure these take AGES to make, but you deserve more subs and you make wonderful, very passionate, professional videos. Either way, thank you, and take it easy 🙂
My thoughts on this is the storyline is good but I do have a problem with this game which is spending over 9 hours of just gameplay without something very important happening and actually no the story is very rough and the ending is kinda horrible nothing happened after all Ellie did nothing happens she accomplished nothing which in my opinion kinda rough
To be honest, if i recall they were using people for labor on the surface level of things. But he held her still and they probably took inventory of the female. Again speculation cause we cant see off screen
Joel’s death I think parallels the beginning deaths in Alien 3 and Telltale TWD S3. Where character(s) you cared about before are early on in and with little build up killed off as a plot device. Considering how badly they handled the rest of the story, it brings in the question if there will ever be A Last of Us Part lll. The writers put themselves in a bad spot of while burning a massive bridge with their fan base, that a sequel just might not happen.
Oh believe me, they’re absolutely working on Part 3. The first game is getting a remake, the multiplayer’s getting a standalone release, and the show is coming soon. This franchise is Sony’s golden goose (besides GoW) - they’re going to milk it for everything it’s worth. I’m not against getting more Last of Us but I don’t think many will argue that the first game was kinda all we needed.
I’m not going to waste time defending anything else because I don’t wanna risk an internet argument over a game but I just wanna say this because everyone overlooks Tommy Tommy was trying to talk Ellie out of it. He was going regardless. He just didn’t want to risk her life too. He knew that he most likely wasn’t coming back alive. He just lost his brother, he didn’t want to lose the one thing his brother fought tooth and nail to protect about 5 years prior. Tommy already lost one niece and now he just lost his brother, do you really think he wants to lose another family member? Like it or not, he actually does care about Ellie’s safety
"It's shit writing by people who are supposed to be some of the best in the industry." Except that was never Druckman, as TLOU2 (and Uncharted 4) proves unequivocally. That credit goes to someone Druckman viciously pushed out of Naughty Dog: Amy Hennig. Hennig was the reason why TLOU1 was so beloved, as she extensively rewrote Druckman's shitty first draft, which read more like what we got out from TLOU2. Hennig was also responsible for the excellent Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver series, which had excellent protagonists, antagonists, and moral complexity. The same can be said for Uncharted 1-3, particularly fan favorite Uncharted 2 which Hennig directed and wrote. (Though maybe you will bring that up, only 42 minutes in) Druckman, on the other hand, has consistently been an excellent example of upwards failure (which I suspect depends on him leveraging lots of insinuations and accusations that track closely with identity politicking matching his views highlighted in his 2013 talk on TLOU1). Druckman has all the moral understanding and complexity of a child, and his writing and direction reflects that. Edit: And I appreciated your breakdown pointing out how Abby is a sociopath; well, you were nicer than my assessment since you said she only displays sociopathic traits/tendencies. Watched a lot of reviews, character break downs -and read a lot of disturbing comments of people genuinely expressing that Abby is an actual likeable and good person as a character- but not one noted her as specifically displaying sociopathy. Abby has to be one of the least likeable (and arguably most evil) characters ever written, I cannot think of any villains in gaming that are as morally bankrupt as Abby after her line "We let you live!" when confronting the people seeking revenge on her for brutally torturing and murdering someone they cared for. And that is the character Druckman wanted us to sympathize with and/or like over Joel, even going so far as to throw in playing fetch with dogs to emotionally manipulate the audience. Says a lot.
The problem with part two is once you get rid of a main character like Joel I think you pin yourself in a corner I think that's what happened with naughty dog and it may be cliche but Joel is The last of Us
Reason why people like naughty dog games is because the stories are simple and the characters are interesting. In the last of Us part 2 naughty dog forgot who their audience was
I pretty much disagree with most of your well-put-together criticisms. You definitely made some unique arguments that were interesting to hear; they were different from the usual jargon or just argued better, but, like I said, I still disagree on most of them. I don't know how your thoughts on Part 2 hold up currently relative to this video, but I'd love to discuss the story with you. I was originally planning on leaving a lengthy comment, giving you my perspective, but I prefer having an oral conversation because it's not as time-consuming and leads to better understanding. So would you be interested in having a conversation about your criticisms of Part 2 on a Discord call or any other platform of your choice?
The idea was that Ellie doesn't enjoy the world she lives in. That's why they wanted the game to feel drawn out and the ending to be unsatisfying. Either way the game was fun the story sucked and I didn't give a damn when Joel died. Say what you want the game was fun. Edit: Tommy is so much cooler than Joel.

Your pretty under rated dude love your work
how the fuck doesn't this have more views
before i looked at the views, i thought this would've had AT LEAST 200k views
this is a really good video
Damn man, this is high tier youtube content. The fuck are you doing with 250 subscribers?
this was actually a really good video.

I respect your opinion but if you thought
TLOU2's Gameplay is repititive I can't even think how repetitive you thought TLOU1's Gameplay was

Mad props
This has to be one of the BEST breakdowns of this game I've listened to, awesome job!
Simple: Part 1 had a decent story, part 2 had a crap one
Even a couple years later I still love hearing people’s opinions on this title. Some of the most interesting games are the most flawed.
Unfortunately, I am too bullheaded enough to even give it a try. I decided I wasn't gonna play... And here I am in 2022 still holding fast. Wish I didn't care about the game and just could get into it. But I can't.

No Bruce straley was a big concern he didn't get enough credit for part one also hiring Gross was concerning.
Question is why did Joel stay in Jackson when his brother is a former Firefly?
To be honest, if i recall they were using people for labor on the surface level of things. But he held her still and they probably took inventory of the female. Again speculation cause we cant see off screen
I thought the song take on me might have been learned by her in regards to her relationship with Joe from the 1st game not Dina.

I beat the game but the stupid constant revenge shit ellie was on made me hate it and her character

Gameplay was just slightly improved version of part 1. Just harder AI... that’s literally it.
