  • Ride onboard with me as I learn the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in my Mk7 Golf R. Instruction is from Tony Halliwell on the morning of an open pit lane MSV track day. I have since started racing for real so please check out all my other videos and subscribe.
Brands Hatch Indy is an incredibly short circuit so it's easy to learn, but without proper tuition you can make some critical errors. Sometimes there are massive accidents on track days and it's just completely unnecessary if you learn the track properly.
I loved my Golf R but had to sell it to get a tow vehicle for my racing. A great track toy though - highly recommended!
The track day was on the 17th October 2017. Check out the rest of my channel for more videos from the day and please leave a comment.

It gave me a great start to the day having little experience at Brands that day. Raced there so many times already a few years later!

Good video, golf r is a fwd car though the majority of the time and the instructor obviously felt that and was puzzled, the rear wheels only activate when traction is lost. So it doesn't drive like a 4wd and none of the predictabilty, just a little safety net system. Great for the road but rubbish on the limit. If you've still got the car look into haldex controllers, i fitted a syvecs to my tts and such a huge difference. Looking forward to track days this year

Yeah fair point mate! I wasn’t too sure at the time but in wet weather on another day I sure felt it! I don’t have the car now, no. I had to swap for a Tiguan so I cools tow my race car around! Do miss the R though. A weapon in disguise!

Lovely burble and growl to your car! :), seemed like a good instructor, I could follow that! (doing a day there myself on the 13th btw).

This was very early in my track experience! I've been round Brands many times now, racing there perhaps 5-6 times in 4 seasons! Loved the Golf R though, a super track car.

@@JamesWilson234 Ive just done my ARDS test at Brands. I used your video to learn the circuit. 😁😎👍🏻 I’ve booked a full days instruction in April in a Caterham. I’ll then be off racing. 😎👍🏻 How about you?

Superb! Great to hear. What series or championship will you be entering your caterham in? Best of luck with it! I have my first race of the season with CSCC next weekend at Donington in the Tin Tops series.

@@JamesWilson234 I’m only taking my training in a Caterham, they suggested it as I’m wanting to race single seaters. I’m looking at Formula Renault or F3, some thing like that. Still early days for me mate, lots to learn but enjoying it very much. All the best with your series.😎👍🏻

Wow that's exciting! Love the thought of racing a single seater one day. Bit old for the junior categories now of course but would still love to give it a go in something.

@@JamesWilson234 hi, I’ve just finished my 2nd novice day on a gsxr 1000, the first time was in the wet, today it was dry and very warm.
In the wet I was 1:22, today I managed a 1:11, it was very busy, I want to go under 1:10 in august, on august 8th I’m driving the M4 with MSV, be interesting to see the times, it should be close to 1 min.
What race car have you got and what sort of times have you done ?

@@ianmitchell9102 hi Ian! Lots of Brands action for you then! Oddly enough, I don’t have any new/up to date Indy circuit footage. My last race there was in the wet so I haven’t made a hot lap guide. I only have 5 fairly steady laps in my old race car. I’m much faster now!
