I bought a set of these for my mom who has horrific arthritis. She was to the point of giving up on crochet forever due to the severe pain. She is now crocheting with ease & enjoyment again, yay!

Addie hooks are comfortable to crochet with and if it was not for poor quality I would replace all my hooks with this make. However my 3.0 size Addie hook snapped in half from just a moderate use. It seems to be made with glued on different pieces of plastic. This reduces its strength and longevity. which is poor for a relatively pricey product.

In my research, I have noticed a lot of posts about these breaking like that after just a few days. For the price, there shouldn't be any reviews like that. So far I am less and less likely to give these a go.

Thank you for this video. Best in-depth review I've seen, ESPECIALLY with slowed down clips. Super helpful for determining if the hooks will work for my mom

Thank you. I use the knife hold and crochet as a righty (though I'm a lefty) and have been eyeing this hook. I stitch really tight and after your review, I think I'll try it to see if I can relax my tension a bit.

I loooove the addi hooks. If you every have hand pain or arthritis, they’re totally worth it.

I find most reviews of products to be unsatisfactory. However, your review was perfect! I'm considering trying these, but wanted to check some reviews since they are a bit on the pricier side. I especially like the information you provided on how the pinky affects the grip. I've been using metal ones like yours, but noticed I was getting pain in my pinky when I'm doing a lot of repetitive hand motions. I bought a Knitpro Waves and it's pretty good. Just considering expanding my hook collection. Thanks!

Only buy one to test it out. You will love it or hate it. I've learned a few tips about hook since this video. That pinky pain comes from a too-short hook. If the butt of your hook digs into the palm under the pinky area, then it's too short. It should extend past your palm. I think Hobby lobby's "Luxury Crochet hook" $2.99 is great!

@@LittlejohnsYarn Thanks for the tip. I found it was the metal ones I was using that made my pinky cramp. I bought Clover Armor a couple days ago and am absolutely in love with them. I crocheted an 18 cm amigurumi dinosaur and didn't have one bit of cramping.

Thanks for your review. My son bought me two of the Addi swing crochet hooks but I couldn't use them at all! The shaft was really short on the H 5.0mm size and it looks shorter than the one you have in the video. I really was disappointed.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for taking the time to share this :) Are you now using this hook more often? I got a J hook for Christmas, but have not really used it for a project yet. Do you tend to crochet tighter or looser with this one? Again, thank you for sharing your insight!

    • @LittlejohnsYarn

I would say I crochet a little looser, because i'm not hold the hook as tight as a smaller handle. I would say I use it 50% of the time. When i'm in the mood to crochet I grab the closest hook That I didnt misplace, lol. When I get a pain in my hands I know I immediately need to take a break then switch to the Addi Swing hook. I take some getting use to. Give it atleast a week

I'm very surprised by the key difference between your addi and the addis I purchased. Yours has a nice long shaft, making them very useful. Mine have teeny tiny shafts with no real flat space. I'm wondering why that is!

    • @LittlejohnsYarn
      @LittlejohnsYarn  6 лет назад +1

That's strange? I do wish mine were longer too. I cant image them being shorter. It would be impossible to use!!

Im looking into buying a set of these hooks, still pondering. As I have to buy online without touching them.
There is 2 kinds available, either Long Shaft or Short Shaft.
      Do you enjoy using them?
Im thinking Short Shaft as my hands are small.

Thank you for the video. I purchased one with a short shaft and then realised they do a maxi swing with the longer shaft. I found that my hand doesn't tire or ache so easily with the maxi swing as it does with the shorter shaft.

@@LittlejohnsYarn they are swing and swing maxi, you can see at addi website. And Im lookig for comparison of those two to some better known brands like clover or tulip. I hesiitate if the normal one would be too short for me and Im afraid Maxi, seems your version might be too long...
