- This video demonstrates how to replace the battery pack in a Waterpik tooth brush. Waterpik claims these batteries are not serviceable, but this is the second time I have replaced the batteries since 2013. Save money and not have to buy a new brush!
Amazon is now selling batteries that will work perfectly. Follow the link below. Thank you.

Great explanation and music choices. I can't believe Waterpik pulls this crap, they should make these batteries easier to replace.
But you can still replace them.
The battery "pack" is simply 2 AAA NiMH batteries in series. The original has the tabs spot-welded on; which it looks like Batteries Plus did for you on the new pack. That's nice. I opted to just use some good quality AAA NiMH batteries (eneloop) and solder a jumper to form the "pack", then solder the wires to the terminals. Works like a charm. Lasts 2-3 years. Just did it again tonight. Found your video so I could remember how it opens.
I replaced the batteries in mile about 1 1/2 years ago. Batteries plus used to sell them for around $2 each. I went back there about a month ago & the price jumped to $9 each.
Thanks a lot for this presentation, I almost purchased a new toothbrush. I love my toothbrush, but was very disappointed when the battery began to last about 30 seconds. Checked on the website and found that the battery wasn’t replaceable. I couldn’t believe that such an expensive unit had to be completely replaced when the battery went. So I have to thank you again for this!
Tnx for ur info
This worked! Batteries Plus actually soldered in the tabs for free. Took about 15 minutes and $2.14 to replace the batteries. Toothbrush is good as new. Thank you!
Couldn't find the two batteries soldered together using tabs. Glad I saw this comment! I didn't know that Batteries Plus bulbs do this.
This actually works. In fact, when I went to Batteries Plus they installed it for me without my even asking them. So I didn't even need the $15 soldering gun I got at Home Depot. Grand total from Batteries Plus for the custom made battery pack plus them soldering it and installing it - $10.99! Can't beat that! Thank you for uploading this - saved me almost $200.
here in the Netherlands I cannot get such a battery pack. can you help me? where do you live? maybe you can order and ship such a package for me?
I am sooo happy. I took my sonic toothbrush to Batteries Plus Bulbs in Rancho Cucamonga Calif. They replaced and soldered the new batteries. The job eas done in a few hours. I paid $14.00. Thank you Batteries Plus.
This video showed exactly how to remove and replace the battery pack. GREAT job! Thanks
Thanks so much for putting up this video. It was very helpful today. I went to a local Batteries Plus retail shop nearby and they were able to replace the batteries for $20 parts and labor. I was so happy!
Thank you mate! You've just saved me buying a new one. And, y'know, even if I screw it up, it'll be good experience for me to do this as I'm really not very practical!
Waterpik needs to redesign this so we can purchase new battery pack for replacements, way to much work to replace these.
Appreciate the presentation. You saved me from having to buy a new combination waterpik and toothbrush. I ordered the batteries from Battery Plus because no stores nearby. With the help of my husband we were able to solder everything together but were I to do this again I would have had BP put the tabs on for me when I ordered the batteries. A little detail I forgot. Nonetheless the toothbrush was fixed for a little over $7. I paid to have them shipped to save a 3 hr round trip. I would not have been able to hold the unit and do the soldering myself. This was a 2 person job in my case. Thanks for saving me so much $$$ and unnecessary need to toss this into the land fill.
Cheryl Huyck I'm glad it was helpful!!!
Thank you so much for the 411 in the beginning to remove the bottom cover. It's spring loaded once you turn the cover just a little.
Thanks for this hack. Bought the battery from the link to Amazon you posted above. Ten bucks. Followed your instructions and now I've got a working toothbrush again. It really pissed me off that the original started to fizzle just as the two-year warranty ran out. The only thing I missed or didn't remember from your vid (and maybe it makes no difference), but the polarity on the new battery I got was backwards from the original, which worked out better after all because I didn't have any small heat shrink tubing. The terminals on mine are now on the outside, and since they didn't come into contact with anything, I left the soldered connections bare. Not sure how important making sure the positive wire goes to the red wire from the circuit board is, but I didn't want to do it twice in case it did. Thanks again.
You're welcome!
Thanks. I think I can do it! Sure hoped I could ...need a soldering gun and batteries, but worth the price just to learn! The video is clear, informative, and enjoyable too! Thanks again! Karen
Glad you liked it. You can do this!!!
Thanks a million for posting this video! You saved me a lot of money. Best wishes & stay well
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video, thank you. It may be helpful to know that you can buy 2x AAA rechargeable battery packs online. They are already soldered together at the base and in a shrink wrap with a red and black wire soldered on the top so all you have to do is cut the connector from the top and solder them onto the Waterpik pcb. They are sold as replacements for cordless phones but will do the job. I ordered a 1000mAh one (from Walmart) which should give a longer charge than the original 800mAh one in the toothbrush.
Easiest way to do this, is use a cordless phone battery pack, I used one for a vTec cordless phone, and soldered the positive and negative wires to the toothbrush, I got my battery for 5 bucks on ebay. Brush works great now!
Thanks for the great video and the included link for the batteries!
No problem 👍
You can buy a battery pack at Digikey that worked nicely for me. Digikey part number: P008-F021-ND it's slightly bulkier than the stock battery pack so I had to cut the plastic retaining clip on the WaterPikt to make it fit back in the housing. It's around $7.50
I bought EBL rechargeable 800mAH batteries to swap in and it looks good so far, they charged to full and I hope they will last. I was able to keep the plastic shroud intact, and reuse the metal tabs.
Thanks. This helped out tremendously....
Good stuff!!
One caution is to avoid short circuiting the battery wires or terminals, not because of electrocution, but mostly because of the "startle factor" when using razor edged tools near unprotected flesh... Don't ask how I know this...
It appears that these may be the same 800 mah Ni-MH batteries used on cordless phones. If so, can save about half buying them on evilbay
I did exactly the same but I used the Envlop 1.2v 750mah battery and unfortunately the brush does not charge and only one LED is lit, some advice what I did wrong?
Thank to this video, i could fix my water pick brush
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
thank you for this video that help me to open the tooth brush
You're welcome!
Works for me, thx a lot !
Ahhh Thanks for this video; you basically answered my question
Glad to help!
Good video. Thanks!
this video encouraged me to go to my local Batteries Plus. Not only did I purchase the battery I took the entire brush and it was installed at a cost of under 12.00 dollars.I walked out with a brush that is running great.thanks
Thanks 😊
Helpful video - thanks! One helpful point would be a little more info on the battery pack itself. It looks like, rather than ordering it online, that you went into one of Battery Pluses stores and got them to put together the battery pack for you at a charge of $11.99 (as per your receipt). That detail would be helpful to know - it would have saved me some time. Can you confirm?
I searched the Batteries Plus website for a pre-assembled pack, and it doesn't exist. In fact, they seem not to sell the batteries with tabs already installed. Since I live more than an hour away from a store, I just ordered similar batteries with tabs from Amazon, and I'll put the pack together myself. Although, I would have been glad to have paid $12 for an already assembled pack.
The reason that the tabs matter is that you can mess up batteries by soldering to them directly. They don't tolerate heat very well. Commercial suppliers, like Batteries Plus, use a spot welder that does it quickly. The tabs give us DIYers enough distance that we can solder them without ruining them. Thanks!
Rick, you have it exactly correct. I went to the local BatteriesPlus store and they made the battery pack. This process consists of welding the little tabs on the batteries and using heat shrink tubing to keep the batteries together. If you bring them the old one and tell them you want exactly the same thing, they should be able to duplicate it without any issues. I never thought about looking for batteries that already have the tabs welded to them!
Amazing! I need to find someone who can this for me in the UK, anyone know of any shop who would do it, please?
I when online and found some 800mah AAA battery pack from china (AAA-100-6004 model BT 1011 green 2.4v), cut the connector off and soldiered (the batteries used in cordless phone) Too bad they didn't go cheap and just made it with good battery that you could just disconnect and connect new one. The 800mAh charge great and last at least month without recharging. I let the batteries drain all the way down to at least one bar or dead before charging. Batteries was cheap and I think free shipping from china which I had not problem with order (batteries mostly all made over there anyway, just cut out the several middle men and the up charge.
Thanks!
Just installed a chordless phone battery into my Waterpik. Took about 5 minutes, I used a HotGlue gun to insulate the solder connections. Works like a champ!
Just went to batteriesplus. They are only able add tabs to the new batteries ($12) but won't help you change out and install the entire thing (since it's a hygiene products).
Will need to solder and attach the wires myself :(
Hey there!
Do you know if there are any GENERIC brush heads available on eBay or somewhere else?
Are those brush heads for Waterpik Sonic Brush interchangeable with other brands?
Please let me know.
Thanks.
Sorry, I have no idea.
Thank you for this video. One question. I found a pair of batteries with the tabs already soldered (on both sides). What should I do about the end that just gets bridged together with a piece of metal/aluminum? Can I fold the two tabs together on that end and use that to piece the two batteries together, or should I break the tabs off on one end and then use foil/tape?
Appreciate any help!
The two batteries need to be connected in series (plus to minus) on one side, so they produce 3v total. I would try to do that by soldering the tabs together. Good luck!
@@projectgattago thank you so much for the response. Yeah, I do understand that red wire goes to positive and black wire goes to negative on the one side. I guess I'll solder the two tabs together on the bottom end of the toothbrush, although folding them seems like it would create enough contact? I just wanted to make sure that would be the right material. I'm very new to soldering etc, but have a soldering iron and going to try and fix this myself.
@@jeffhelba It is hard for me to answer your questions without seeing what you are actually trying to do. I am sure you will figure it out.
I'm going to get slightly high and fix my water piks! I do not have a soldering gun however. I will find one though. The company clearly does not care about waste and being responsible. I would PAY YOU to fix my defunct water piks and assorted devices with sealed batteries. PLEASE. :)
I have a new one in the box, where you put the toothbrush to charge, I don't see how it can charge nothing is in it, just air. It has been set up for three years and never been used, just trying to figure out if something is missing.
It goes on its stand. The charging is wireless.
I realized that I Broke the two induction coil wires connected to the toothbrush batteries. It is a challenging job specially for soldering the two tiny copper wires to the electrical circuit. But I am inclined to face the challenge. There is a tape covering the coil wire in the toothbrush. I have to order it on Amazon. Any idea about the name of the tape which is being used. Thanks very much for your advice.
That would do it.
Hi has succeed replace battery but why indicator light for charging not appear?
I have no idea.
Thanks bro now I can brush my teeth again!!! LOL!
I replaced 'em once (thanks for this video!) a year or so ago, but this time the groove in the cap is stripped so even with a wrench holding the quarter I can't get it open and plastic keeps flaking off! Any advice?
Probably time for a new brush...LOL
@@projectgattago Arguably yes, but you replaced your batteries twice; I'd like to at least match that! :)
i have the sr3000 brush that looks just like yours. aren’t they the same?
I am sorry, but I have no idea.
can you explain how you chose the batteries? the receipt says custom batteries. am interested in replacing my waterpick batteries too :] any advice would be great
They are just rechargeable AAA cells. Nothing special.
You need rechargeable AAA with flat ends. Not just any rechargeable AAA will work. Best to take in old batteries to be sure you get exactly what you need.
I bought BT-1011 cell-phone rechargable battery packs on eBay - $1.90 each with free shipping! Comprises the two AAA 2.4V 800mAh batteries, connected, shrink wrapped with the leads ready attached with a plug that's easily snipped off. Snip off the old battery, prep the ends and solder to the new battery leads. Literally a 5 minute job max. Works and charges perfectly. Did my wifes and my toothbrushes for $3.80. Can't beat that!
i've never tried soldering before. anyone have any recommended videos for someone who's never done it before?
binarystar300 Surely there are many videos on RUclips that can show you how to solder.
i'm sure there are, but i'm interested in how to do soldering for this specific purpose (i.e. a solder a battery pack to wires connected to a motherboard). i have very little experience with skilled labor like this, so anything that's very literal and step-by-step would be very helpful
get a soldering gun, or an old wood burning tool from your boy/girl scout days and some solder with flux core and go for it. It may not be pretty, but You'll get the job done. Personally, I'm going to ask at Batteries Plus if they will do it like wifeocaster did, or order the battery AAA-100-6004 model BT 1011 green 2.4v & see if I can just use electrical tape. LOL
I have replaced the batteries, The toothbrush is working, but when I put the toothbrush in the Waterpik flosser, the toothbrush does not charge and the green light is turned off. I have tried two pair of batteries with the same results. Any idea?
I do not know. Perhaps it is time for a new toothbrush? They don't last forever.
Anyone offer a service for replacing these batteries?
copper wires on the first spindle to be ejected broke. Am I dead in the water?
I would say yes.
I did the same and can confirm I was able to solder it back and it works
where do you get these batteries
I got mine at a local BatteriesPlus store, but some people have mentioned getting them on Amazon.
My toothbrush had the heat shrink on the wires from the factory.
Be careful all. I did this and it worked great for about 6 months and then failed. There must be some kind of water seal at the brush end, because water leaked in there and destroyed the motor. So see if you can find a way of adding a small o ring near the top.
Same here. There is a seal and after replacing batteries twice it failed. Called Water Pik and they do not sell the parts.
My original Waterpik WP900 battery has 3.7V your replacement has 1.2V, its worked with different Volt? Thanks
The voltage does not change.
@@projectgattago its mean with 1.2V will works or not.. Or must 3.7V... Do you have link for your battery? Thanks
@@iyan110 The batteries are wired in series, so the voltage is doubled. The cells are just standard AAA rechargeable cells.
@@projectgattago please helped me link where I buy it...Thanks friend
@@iyan110 I got mine at BatteriesPlus.
Wish I would’ve seen this video before I went and ordered another one 😩
Well, the next time the battery goes out, you know what to do!
Love the funky first tune. Who is that ?
It's canned iMovie music. ;-)
My local BatteryPlus refused to do it :(
I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe not all stores offer this service.
Its always better to try to repair.
I see this battery listed on the BatteriesPlus website: www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/nuh800=aaaf
I don't see a pre-assembled 2 pack like you show in the video. Did you do this after buying the batteries individually? It would certainly be nice if they came that way with everything attached already. Thanks for the video.
John Sortino You have to go to a Batteries Plus store and they will make it for you.
Ah, okay, no wonder I couldn't find the pack on the site :-) Thanks! Luckily, I have one right down the road from me. Thanks again.
John Sortino No problem!
Compre waterpik sonic 9.0, viene con un cepillo eléctrico y ha sido imposible sacarle la batería para recargarla. Es una mierda.
You can get this battery pack, or one like it, on Amazon and eliminate some of the hassle. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IFMZAM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you saying the 2.4 volt battery will be a good replacement battery for a 1.2 volt battery, it will burn up the motor on the toothbrush
They are wired exactly the same as the original battery pack.
@@projectgattago his link says 2.4 volts but i received the batteries today and they are 1.2 volt both equal 2.4 volts, how do you get the solder to stick to the battery
I let professionals do the battery soldering. Batteries plus used a spot welded to attach tabs to the batteries.
No habla español...Sorry.
Hola,dónde compraste la batería? Gracias
Wouldn’t it be nice if Waterpik simply sold a replacement toothbrush?
I've been using a stock battery for a Vtech cordless phone, two for $7 on Amazon. I didn't solder, just spliced the wires.
Battery: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0742877KY
I wasted my time going to my local Battery Plus store. The guy said, ”We don't do that.” ☹️
Sorry to hear that. Other people have commented on other options.
Me too. I took it in and the tech wasn't in. They called back and said they don't repair this item. I'm going to try a different location.
When RUclips meets real life.
This is great news. This model is no longer available, anywhere.. The new line of Waterpik Flossers are absolute JUNK. Like kids toys, no power at all. I found an old Atmoko that would charge my toothbrush because my battery is still good but that day will come.
I can replace the battery, no one makes the charger for it anymore.
Uh somebody wants to burn or cut fingers?? Hmmm
Not me! Proceed with caution!!!
Why would anyone in their right mind purchase a item that is so complicated to simply change a battery ?
stop playing in the bathroom and go build the gto again lol
Ha! I wish...I plan on redoing the GTO again in the near future. I actually did this video because a bunch of people on Amazon wanted me to...
Brought this unit and it is good product, but why do they make is so hard to replace a battery? People may not be able to change battery without all those tools and why do they have to make it so complicated??? I guess I will just need to buy another toothbrush. Trash!!!!
Music sucks!,,
I did exactly the same but I used the Envlop 1.2v 750mah battery and unfortunately the brush does not charge and only one LED is lit, some advice what I did wrong?
Damian Kądzioła I'm sorry, I don't know. Maybe the tab linking the two cells wasn't attached properly?
Thanks bro now I can brush my teeth again!!! LOL!
