This song was originally written in '64 and she covered it in '65. The characters in the video represent a modern take on Nina and her daughter (for real) at a time right after leaving a long abusive marriage in 1964. She was starting over and was having this new awakening when she did this album ("I Put a Spell on You") so watching the video with that in mind I get a sense of just how much of herself she poured into her music and how real that emotion was. It was always like that for her.

I love the spirituality around honoring sacred femininity that is so rooted in African tradition, and also love that this was positive, romantic vision of a beautiful, loved and loving black woman who grew up in a beautiful home… seems like too many portrayals of African American lives are of struggle and while I get that’s important to portray sometimes we miss the magic and beauty and love and affection and soul in these beautiful families and traditions and I love how this was really all about feeling good and giving out love rather than just a sort of over simplified portrayal of overcoming blatant struggles to get to a place of feeling good

Don`t let her disappear into insignificance , I have every record she ever released some I have 3 copies. I am Australian Aboriginal and she has the mind of our mother ( earth mother).
Sadly, disappearing is all music like this can do with the onslaught of Cardi B's and Lady Gaga's of the world today. It's not about the music, it's about the money and as long as people are ok with singers talking about their nasty body parts and drugs, the trend shall continue.

Beautifully said
@@cujoedaman don't put down one woman to uplift another. Nina Simone, along with the two artists you've mentioned, have all released amazing music. Just because they're different doesn't mean they're bad, especially Lady Gaga, who has proved time & time again her versatility & vocal prowess
@@Bria.W Well said!
Nah, this will never be forgotten as long as there's someone left to get the chills listening to it.
Don't worry, the younger generation always discovers that they missed wonderful stuff and then go looking for more.
Thank you for keeping Nina's legacy going. Fucking brilliant.
The greatest female vocalist that graced this earth. She expressed her difficult life through that wonderful catalogue of music. Sadly missed.
Ditto That 💃✌️🥰🙏
All are equal in the kingdom of Heaven, but Ella is the greatest!
The outro song of A Quiet Place: Day One. Who's here? ❤
I’m here after seeing the movie. Great film.
🙋
Yup, that's why I"m here!
This song keeps me living when I was so tired of everything. There's beauty around you, keep looking for it.
We miss you very talented, incredible voiced singer.
Listening to this beautiful song for the millionth time but watching it with this footage of humans being true, makes the heart warm and the spirit rise. Thank you for sharing again and again!
This is my life vow. I've written my vows while thinking of our love to this song. We shall always sleep in peace when day is done. It's a new Dawn for us.
What a voice, so enchanting. Love her singing.
Wow..I was worried at first the video would not do her song justice or that it would take away from it somehow. But what a melding of visual and musical inspiration! A real celebration! Just wow!
One of most gorgeous songs in history sung by one of the most gorgeously talented women in the world.
Has to be the best modern version of Nina simones gracious song. This inspires me daily. Thank you to the artist dancing. She is gorgeous
I have heard this song thousands of times over many years and still every time I play it the pure emotion can still bring tears to the back of my eyelids. What a powerful voice. What a magnificent talent. Still my favorite female artist of all time.
One of the greatest to ever do it. Nina is a huge influence to Black people across America!
Nina was a huge influence to all people across America. Blacks being just one. It's cause she was a good writer and singer, something you don't get today.
Really?, then why when I was in the pen the one to introduce her to a bunch of black people?
And h I did they did not care about her
@@MrHammerman97 not like she was a black activist fighting through segregation and being friends with Malcom X and Martin Luther King, right? oh wait...
@@wino_-ub6pf Yeah when real racism occured. That's why her story is amazing. No artist today suffer's. They are loaded with money. Back than you were famous and still pretty poor. But you didn't know that. So now you do. Also, Malcom X was a bastard PoS. MLK was a legend.
I've always absolutely loved this song. One of the most sampled people ever! True genius and musical icon. My ex shown his love for her to me and im glad I payed attention. She is a queen with an amazing voice. Strange Fruit still makes me cry everytime I hear it.
I beat almost impossible odds to be able to type this. A month ago, a surgeon told my husband I had at best a one percent chance of living. We're still not sure what caused the brain bleed. I do know it's a new dawn and I cry like a newborn girl every time I hear this now. This song is important to so many people for many reasons. That's mine.
Lysana, great to read your post! Thrilled that you pulled through. We just watched SFJazz do a broadcast of a Sweet Honey in the Rock concert, which featured this song, which led me to this RUclips video for the first time - really wonderful - which led to your post. Stay well!
Eu mesmo não estando bem de saúde, fazendo químio… Adoro ouvir.
That's a truly powerful reason... I really hope you're doing well.
@@wellingtonmessmer1873 respectfully those other 2 artists are great however, neither one has the soul this woman possessed. Nina was greatness exemplified.

Essa musica já muito poderosa, sempre me tira do poço. Com esse clipe então. Essa performance traduziu tudo!!!!
Wow…the full orchestra behind Nina’s infectious voice is perfect for the dancer’s creative video. OUTSTANDING---Nina’s outdone every great Capitol Records recording of Frank Sinatra’s classics with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra! You can’t get any higher praise than that about anyone’s song, recording, orchestral arrangement or any other means to measure true greatness in the music world!
“It’s a new dawn it’s a new day and I’m feeeeling goood!” 🎶 🎼 🎵
Oh to be blessed to wake up to a new day a new dawn and feeling good! That’s a gift and truly a blessing. Beautiful and gifted right from her soul.
The part where the music kicks in after she sings "And I'm feeling good" is one of my favorite moments in any song.
As músicas da Nina Simone tocam minha alma.
A master composer, concert pianist, singer, performer, song writer, civil roghts activist AND LEGEND👌
Cleansing with sage and a ritual bath. Family. The first time I danced to this song was in 2017 with my uplifting dance teacher Alberto Valdes. Tears of joy. Thank YOU. Feeling good seeing these images of joy and hearing Nina Simone's powerful voice singing FREELY.
A quiet place one day perfect 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is the feeling of freedom, feeling free from my past, no more shame, no guilt. The best song to liberate ourselves.
I believe it is "only" about freedom. It is so sad that alot of people think its a feel good song. She was so brillant that she left it to those ignorant enough to hear what they want to hear.
The song was originally written by Anthony Newley and Leslie bricusse for their musical The roar of the greasepaint the smell of the crowd
I am absolutely sure this is the best song ever for me! It affects me every time I hear it! It's magical and meaningful. Nina Simone is remarkable even if she is passed. She has given us a incredible gift of her voice and her ability to be beautiful and she hits me right in my heart! That my friends is music and remarkable! Thank you, Nina Simone for you sharing your gift of song and making me daydream again at 60 years old! You are remarkable! Thank you! Kathy Hallberg
I have been listening to Nina Simone since the movie Point of No Return
We used to get her records smuggled into South Africa during Apartheid. Anyone who listens to and appreciates her music knows what real Activism means.🙏🏾
Hermosa canción, todo lo hace sentir perfecto!!
Hope everyone understand that music, specially the new generation. This is pure art
we do
every generation owes black women everything, they built the foundation

That movie got to me 😭🐈
The ending of the quiet place day one was literally so crazy bro.
I’m here because this is an Iconic Song, it’s absolutely Relevant to The Age of Aquarius that is upon Us at this time. Perfectly fits with this Timeline for the Birth of this New Earth. God Bless Nina Simone. 🕊️🙏🥰✨♾️
This song will forever be a classic!
Perfect song for today .
Her voice, the words, the music : I Feel !
The best part of this song is the a cappella intro & when Queen Nina speaks in tongues.
I have to admit that I don't remember diving into learning about Nina Simone until I had become an adult.. in my 30s! But now I am music director for the local theaters production of Simply Simone and I'm grateful to be learning so much about her.
I grew up listening to jazz, but never heard of Nina Simone until the movie Point of No Return came out!! It was like finding gold!!
@@stacyann825 Right. Truly a buried treasure.
I've nit heard of Point of No Return. Is it about Nina Simone or was a song of hers on the soundtrack?
Essa música, essa voz, sempre me deixam todo arrepiado, dos pés a cabeça. Nina é lendária. Nina é atemporal. Nina é para para sempre.
Para sempre

Ladies and gentlemen, we are in the presence of greatness when listening to Nina's recordings. How liberating, real and true she makes us feel. Thank you to the creators of this beautiful video.
This song 🎶 came out in ‘65 , the same year my Dad was born. That is how music is timeless and beautiful. ☺️
Always thought it was wonderful that she could find it in herself to sing this song after everything she had been through.
Eu sempre fico arrepiado e perto de chorar ouvindo essa música (ou chorando mesmo kk).
eu também hahaha
I miss you, momma.
Happy heavenly birthday! Hope she is singing with the angels. I had not heard of her before today - glorious!
Perfect Days and A Quiet Place: Day One
Yeah... Day love this.

The emotion in her voice is just beautiful. She makes you feel what she’s singing! Every time i hear her music it feels like im experiencing the song like a movie ❤
In addition to this song being awesome, this video is so damn wholesome. I love it. All the women with natural hair doing health things for their minds and bodies. What a great message!
Absolutely agree with you here.
I like the aong
