I’m a Fractal user so I don’t play other pedals that often, but this is a pedal I’ve kept because I absolutely love the vibrato setting! I actually pulled it out of the closet yesterday and connected it to a ToneX and was instantly reminded why I’ll probably never sell it! Such a cool sound!!!!
Boss CE-3 Made in Japan is the BEST. The Mode II stereo option is the only stereo chorus pedal on the market that has this mode. You use the mode II option when using two amps in stereo setup plugging the guitar straight into the pedal and outputting to the two amps. The mode one option will give you what all the other chorus pedals give you, but this CE-3 Mode II is what every guitar player is looking for. The reason being, you don't get the harsh squeal when doing pinch harmonics while running the amps gain or overdrive channels.
You've made the best possible demonstration that someone could ever do about this pedal. Not only great sounds but great chords. I have loved this pedal for a long time. I know where you've taken some of your references from, I think. Great playing
Great video and glad to see someone demonstrating the stereo chorus sounds this pedal does so well. Used to use one of these in my bass rig way back. I don't even remember where I got it but I actually used the stereo chorus effect live on 2 songs my band used to play and people would always tell me after the show how awesome the effect sounded. As a bass player I very rarely used effects in that band but I really liked the way this pedal sounded. Still have it, though I rarely use it.
The CE3 is superior to both CE1 and 2 and was the state of the art back when I got into effects, made the Vibrato pedal obsolete only surpassed by the Dimension D and the rack Super Chorus :)
I caught a glimpse and see that you have the Green Label version. Have you had a chance to try the older Black Label version ('82-'84) with the Mitsubishi M5218 chip? The Green Label's run began in 1984 and has the JCR4558DD chip
Jake didn't use chorus on BATM. Producer Max Norman added all the modulation in post production and when Jake heard it he was terribly disappointed. He felt his raw tone on BATM was even better than his Badlands sound.
Mine would make really cool sounds just as the 9V battery started to die. I always wanted to experiment with undervolting it from a power supply to reliably recreate the sound but never got around to it. One thing that annoyed me about this pedal is the loud thump it generates when you plug your guitar into the input.
this can be over come by setting everything up before you turn your amp on or by turning the volume down on your amp as you should when plugging in or unplugging everything. FS
The other thing you can do with this production wise is set up a good rate/depth, then double track one side b out and the other dry and you get ce-1 stereo chorus plus double track-age
My danelectro coolcat chorus does the same kinda vibrato trick but you gotta plug a cable into other output and if you use a TSR cable you gotta plug it in half way and fiddle with it I didn't know the ce3 did it with just a turn of a knob that's rad I'm going to look for one cheap somewhere I like the sound of the boss better plus you don't gotta use an 18 volt adapter oh crap unless it's one those weird ones with a 12 or 15 volt that would be even worse
It was my first pedal ever, Japanese version, bought brand new in 1985 and I think that it's overrated. IMO it's an OK stomp box that delivers exactly what you would expect from any chorus pedal.

Generally speaking a chorus effect blends the dry signal with a modulated signal - remove the dry and you have a vibrato. one of the modes lets you have a dry out and wet out, so choose the wet for vibrato.
Yea I was kind thinking the same thing but I thought hmm, it has that mid/late 80’s early 90’s vibe. I was thinking about buying this to add to my Kurt Cobain related gear lol I know he used a Boss Chorus pedal, doesn’t have to be the same one really as long as it’s Boss and Chorus.

So fast forward to today and I have a pretty extensive guitar/pedal/amp Nirvana collection including a modern small clone and a 81 Small Clone which says mini chorus, but has a 3007 chip and sounds way better than my modern one. I also have a NOS unopened Reticon chip that I will try to use someday. I also have 2 Echoflangers, 2 Polychorus’s and 1 Polyflange!
I just bought one. Black label so must be from 1982-1984 MIJ. I took a look inside and found a trimpot. Any idea if its safe so play with the trimpot? Thanks for the video Leon.

I have yet to find a good video online that has done that. From what I understand, people don't like parallel loops because of digital effects, but there are so many good amps on the used market with them. Thanks you and I'll be sure to subscribe.

had one of these for awhile in the 90's. great chorus with a bit of distinct voice = cool. the paint job on this thing though = killer.

Love my old ce3, run it stereo in a boss ir2 now. Works like a charm

Still my favourite chorus pedal. Used in stereo, it sounds glorious. It actually might just be my favourite pedal of all time.
This was the first pedal my dad bought for me in the early 2000's. Later on i traded it for other gear, wish i kept it.

nice demo mate good to finally hear someone actually utilise the stereo mode, guessing your eyes work unlike alot of the reviews of this on here

Absolutely love my Analogman Chorus more than some people, but my old Boss Super Chorus doesn’t suck.
