  • While he was praying in the garden in Matthew 26:39, Jesus said, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." But what exactly was "the cup" he was referring to? Today our Hard Questions panel discusses this scripture.

It was the cup of judgment.
Which is why He said “my God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me.”
I find it hard to reconcile that the apostles and many other Christian martyrs went to their deaths bravely and willingly but somehow Jesus was afraid to die? No, He was about to have the sins of the world laid on him and undergo the judgment of those sins.
    Isaiah 51:17
“Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.”

In Matthew 20:22-23 Jesus tells His disciples that they will indeed drink from the cup that He will drink from. How can this be if the cup was “becoming sin” and “taking sin” and “being forsaken of God”???
The Father never looked away from Jesus. The psalm Jesus quotes “why have You forsaken me?” Of psalm 22 shows that the Father never turned away or forsook the Son. Psalm 22:24

I believe that all the sin of the world, and it's consequence was put on Him...so when Hitler sinned killing Jews, and political prisoners, Jesus felt God's wrath, but all the pain and horror of the victims suffering. That times every human on earth, all the consequences of our sins...that's what killed Him...and because He is God, He could last as long as He did. If it were me, it would have killed me instantly. In that light, really consider what He did....Amazing Love...I wouldn't even do that for my children, and neither would you.❤

5:25... Hadn't Satan entered Judas at this point? How can the devil stop something that is his nature? It truly is amazing how the Lord used the devils nature against him...The Ultimate sacrifice conquering the ultimate act of pride.

Jesus was not with the father right from the beggining. It was the son which is spirit that was with the father right from the beggining of time who sat at high with the father. The father knew the son and the son knew the father. Jesus was born of the virgin mary. Infused by the holy spirit. And the name jesus was to be given to the child instructed by an angel to joseph to give to the child, Jesus meaning the one to save and the name christ was given by the people. Jesus Christ was the physical vessel and the son was the spiritual vessel that dwelt in side our lord and saviour jesus the christ so that he could perform his miracles. Listen to the words of the scriptures. When christ sat down to rest by the well of jacob he spoke to a samatrian woman and said "God is SPIRIT and must be worshipped in SPIRIT and in truth" likewise the son is spirit and must also be worshipped in SPIRIT and in truth. Jesus him self said "he who obeys the SON shall have eternal life he who does not obey the SON shall not see life" and his last words to his disciples were " go and make nations known baptising them in the name of the father and of the SON and of the holy spirit' he did not say of the father and of the christ and of the holy spirit.

I don't know how true this is but did jesus drink from the cup in the garden of gethsemane which contain adams blood. Adams from eden which contain mans sin. Because nothing bad happened to jesus until jesus drinks from the cup and the light that god put on jesus was lifted. The light that god put on jesus was to protect him from harm from sinners.

God stop watching over jesus as soon as he drinks from the cup of sin which made jesus no longer protected from sinners

The reason why I think this is because when adam was no long in eden adam he try to end himself but god brought him back to life and adam blood which where on the rock at the time adam and eve offer if up to god as a offering to someday get adam and eve back into eden but god will only let adam and eve back into eden as soon as jesus pay the price for there sins which now know as heaven. God showed adam and eve video of jesus in the garden of gethsemane through the flames. And when adam offer the rocks contain which his blood all over god took the blood of adam from the rocks and put it in the cup for jesus where contains sin
