I am a Mariah fan, but the fact Mariah used this to say that Celine was being disrespectful it's not fair and just untrue. Basically saying that Celine should have done like the other ladies on stage that night and just keep it down, take it easy, and let Aretha do her thing. Not in the recent years but back in 1998 when this concert took place. And Celine knew what she was doing and even said so herself.

Watching this clip I finally understand why Mariah is so bitter about it. In the beginning, Aretha literally came to Mariah and sung with her. However, Mariah's responses were kinda lacklustre. I think that's why when it comes to higher part later, Aretha left Mariah behind and asked one of those girls to help her lift it. And Celine was the only one stepping up. That is the truth because Mariah couldn’t belt like that at least on that night. Her performances were not solid either. I’m not insulting her anyone that watched it knows that. Mariah is a top rate vocalist but they all have their moments. Celine has lots of them now herself. Everyone on stage knows that Celine is a siren, especially during this era.

First of all... This wasn't Aretha's show... This is called Divas Live and all these ladies are divas. It's not disrespectful to give your best. I am sure Aretha doesn't need to ask other singers to take it easy in order to shine. It would actually be really sad if these singers felt like they had to hide their talent to let Aretha shine. @@xorock9387 I disagree. One of the things that makes Mariah so amazing is her perfectionism. But it’s a double edged sword because it has also made her incredibly self conscious when she performs. She gets very nervous. Celine doesn’t have that problem, she just lets loose. It’s just their personality. Divas Live wasn’t supposed to be about Aretha until Aretha forced it. I can understand Mariah’s desire to show respect and I would understand her point about Celine if it wasn’t for the fact that Aretha literally asked them to go high. I’m not a hardcore fan of either Mariah or Celine, I appreciate both their talents, but I do think Mariah’s problem with Celine here had to do with her own insecurity. Perhaps it was further exacerbated by Tommy Mottola who was always putting her down to control her.

First of all... This wasn't Aretha's show... This is called Divas Live and all these ladies are divas. It's not disrespectful to give your best. Pleasantly surprised to find a hardcore Mariah fan who can see the other side. Mariah is an amazing singer. But she’s so insecure, it sucks.
@@BbGun-lw5vi she's not insecure at all, this event was clearly something for aretha, bc they literally sung her songs, and she just wanted to show respect for aretha, but when mariah sangs, we know she can sang and never disappoint
@@xorock9387 I disagree. One of the things that makes Mariah so amazing is her perfectionism. But it’s a double edged sword because it has also made her incredibly self conscious when she performs. She gets very nervous. Celine doesn’t have that problem, she just lets loose. It’s just their personality.
Divas Live wasn’t supposed to be about Aretha until Aretha forced it. I can understand Mariah’s desire to show respect and I would understand her point about Celine if it wasn’t for the fact that Aretha literally asked them to go high.
I’m not a hardcore fan of either Mariah or Celine, I appreciate both their talents, but I do think Mariah’s problem with Celine here had to do with her own insecurity. Perhaps it was further exacerbated by Tommy Mottola who was always putting her down to control her.
