    I just love the range this Gorecki has in his compositions. He did not let a certain “sound” bind him of his creative freedom.

    Sooooo brooding and creepy...even sinister! I love it! 'Makes me wish that I was sitting next to a fireplace, during a storm, in some old Victorian manor. 'Probably my favorite piece of his. It would seem as though Gorecki was trying to exorcise all of his woeful & horrifying demons through this daring work.

    Fascinating piece, impressive performance! My only quibble is with the too-obviously compressed recording. I'd have liked to hear more natural dynamics.

    I am no expert but around 15mins 30 secs there is something in the wrong key, no ?

      It's bitonality. The cello and viola are in a different key than the violins. Makes for some very cool and dramatic - and sometimes very dissonant - sounds.

      @@midifromhell It's not for everyone, that's for sure. I recently saw a performance of R. Strauss' opera "Elektra." Fortunately I got there early enough to hear the pre-performance lecture in which the concept of bitonality, which shows up a lot in "Elektra," was explained and demonstrated to us non-musicians. I'm glad I had been...prepared. It works, in the sense that it fits the very unpleasant action in the opera...

    Fantasta, not fantasia

    • @775987mb
      @775987mb 8 лет назад +7

      Fantasia is a musical form, like Sonata or Rondò. "Quasi" means "almost" ("Sonata quasi una fantasia", Beethoven). Italian is the language of music.

      @@775987mbGorecki was polish, so Fantasta is probably fantasy in Polish. “Fantasy” is a musical form, you can say it in whatever language you want.
