Wow, what a captivating performance. Disciplined orchestra, conductor truly understands the piece, and that voice is spectacular. The only thing wrong with this video is that more folks haven’t seen it.
No sorrow Ìs as intriguing and captivating as this sorrowful performance I cannot listen to this magnificent symphony without tears and deep emotion This spectacular and inspirational performance invites me into the sorrowful and impressive world This is a magnificent Requiem for countless victims of oppression
Absolute perfection, so delicate at times that one imagines it’ll fall apart. The first third is ever so slightly out of kilter but once the Diva begins the orchestra comes under her spell and goes from strength to strength. Note how the conductor has chosen to dedicate a solo violinist to accompany the Soprano. Bravi.
Fearless is an incredible film, if you’ve not watched it, I urge you to . The opening music of this is in the final emotional scene. It is masterfully made
This takes me back over 20yrs when i first heard it. Such an incredible performance of one of the most emotive pieces of music ever created. This is such a powerful, melancholy, beautiful piece of music! Im sat here in tears watching it.
I'm a bass player and I loved it. This came up accidentally on my feed and I'm glad it did. Friends, remember this is a Youth Symphony, and the Conductor should be judged on how he brings out the youth, not on how you think he's "showy", he's attacked an very difficult piece. Yes, the bass players at the start were playing different parts, some of you kiddies missed that, with your comments about them having different bowing styles. Listen again with your eyes closed and you won't see some play French Bow and others play German.
I agree. The first edition by Woytowicz was unknown to many because it was in pre-internet times. The rendition by Devid Zinman and soprano Dawn Upshaw has actually set the trend. I am fortunate to listen to various sopranos singing movement 3. Recently Beth Gibbson soprano recorded in an excellent manner.
I have the CD. I first heard it accompanied with stills from the holocaust. I couldn’t move until it was finished. Next day I called the TV station and various places but no-one could help me until I went into a music shop and I was trying to describe it to the clerk when one of the customers heard me and knew it was Henri Goreki. I was so happy to get the CD. It is well played.
I've listened to many performances of this beautiful work, but keep coming back to this rendition. I believe it's because it "breathes" more... Something about how the orchestra ebbs and flows beautifully throughout. Intensifying and diminishing at all the right times (for my ear at least). 42:00 onward being a beautiful example. I also love how the conductor treats the 21 A-Major chords at its close... Some almost imperceivable, while he stresses others... the first A chord, then the sixth, eleventh, sixteenth and the last two.. the twentieth and twenty-first... Stunning. 😘
@@guy-patrickmassoloka9136 Hi man. Thanks for the question. It's a tricky one to answer, as Upshaw is sublime, but I was thinking more about the orchestra and its input and how the piece is conducted here. I really feel it breathes better than other renditions I've heard. Just my opinion mind.

This text: "O Mother, do not cry, no - Heavenly Chaste Queen, you always support me", ends with the prayer call "Hail Mary".

Third Movement:
"Where has he gone
My dearest son?
Perhaps during the uprising
The cruel enemy killed him
Ah, you bad people
In the name of God, the most Holy,
Tell me, why did you kill
My son?
Never again
Will I have his support
Even if I cry
My old eyes out
Were my bitter tears
to create another River Oder
They would not restore to life
My son
He lies in his grave
and I know not where
Though I keep asking people
Everywhere
Perhaps the poor child
Lies in a rough ditch
and instead he could have been
lying in his warm bed
Oh, sing for him
God's little song-birds
Since his mother
Cannot find him
And you, God's little flowers
May you blossom all around
So that my son
May sleep happily".
