Used bookstores are a little piece of heaven! ♥♥♥♥
For sure!! I really didn’t know what I’d been missing out on!
Ikr❤
Love how organized you are to only come home with a few doubles of books. Amazing how many you found that you were looking for. I myself prefer mass market paperbacks. I find them easier to read somehow over a hardback but hardbacks do look a heck of a lot better on the shelves. Great haul. Makes me want to run out and pick some up myself even though my TBR is through the roof!
Thanks! Haha I’m lucky I didn’t end up with more. I used to organize my books so often but it has been a hot minute since I’ve handled the unread titles. Taking a few pictures with me helped. Truthfully, hardcover is my least favorite format to physically read, I prefer mm too. It’s satisfying to see those pages flying by so much quicker lol. What I don’t like is how messy the spine looks when I’m done with them. 😩
Loved the collection and the patience you have for showing the books. :)
Thanks! I appreciate the patience in watching all of that.
This popped up on my feed today. Nice haul! Fantasy is not my bag these days, but i would also have been very happy to pick up the Hobbs books. Result! Also props to your husband for his picks, more my cup of tea...
Wow, what nice additions to your home library. I bet you had a book shoppers high when finding these wonderful books! Curse of the Mistwraith is one I’m hoping to read probably early next year and like you I tend to collect books I think I might like in a series so I have books 2 and 3 as well.
Happy reading and thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Yes there were moments of true emotional payoff. I’d no idea I’d enjoy the hunt so much. I love it when I end up liking a series and already own most of them, but it’s so hard to let them go when they end up being duds. I’m nervous about Curse of the Mistwraith, partially because I’ve heard they’re not quite as good as the Empire trilogy, and partially because it feels like opening a can of worms because of how many books she’s written.
Wow! What an epic haul :) That was very fun to watch!
Thank you! I appreciate your comment - I’m thrilled it was fun, even though it was so long. I love watching book hauls so I figured I’d format how I’d want to see it haha.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller Absolutely! You mentioned you went down the West Coast. I’m in So Cal, did you hit any shops there?
Not on the coast. We darted east just north of SanFran and went south through Fresno and Baker. We hit a few along that route though!
Oh what an incredible haul and time you must have had visiting all those used bookstores!!!! I didn’t realize I might’ve gotten quite lucky finding the first bunch of Runelords hardcovers at a used shop in New Jersey.
I’m so jealous of the Temeraire collection! It’s one of my favorite series (read randomly before I discovered booktube, and the lack of knowing any positive or negative opinions on it really helped I think). I did order one of the gorgeous looking Grim Oak Press special edition omnibus though so hopefully I’ll have a nice hardback collection of it before too long.
Oh wow, you found more than one Runelord in a single location?! That is a lucky find. :) I even tried to get a copy of the first book in hardcover from the author himself and he didn’t even have one lol.
It’s funny you mention Temeraire. I was looking at my set the other day and there’s just something about it I don’t like. Partially that the first several books aren’t available in a standard hardcover, but it also bothers me that the artwork for the later books varies so much. To that end, I’d set myself a 5 for 1 owned books reading challenge where I was going to start buying the new white cover trade paperback editions to replace these hardcovers. It seems like a weird thing to do, but I crave the uniformity.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller that’s a great plan, especially because the new white Temeraire paperbacks form a beautiful dragon image when the spines are all lined up. They look great all together, I just wish they were full trade paperback sized.
@@BooksWithBenghisKahn ooooh I didn't know that - sold! I'm glad to know they're smaller. I tried orderernig the original Shadow of the Apt editions and didn't like the size. It will come down to how good the spine image is. :D
What a bookhaul and those are definitely great titles that you found. I can't wait for the lockdown to end here in Australia so I can go to my local secondhand bookstores to try my luck with finds like yours
Oooh, that’ll be nice. Figure everyone is stuck inside and reading more, so the trade ins should be packed lol. Are you after any series in particular?
This was amazing, I'm just starting to dive into older fantasy books and ALL OF THIS looks so good and amazing. I'm screenshotting the heck out of this video to (unnecessarily) bulk up my tbr.
In I'm a subscriber now 💚
Thank you! And that’s awesome - I love helping people find great things to read. :D
Wow it's such a good book haul! So jealous of you but at the sake time super happy for you & really admire your collection ❤ keep it up girly
Thank you! This was truly a once in a lifetime haul - I doubt I’ll ever go to that many used bookstores in succession again. Sooo much fun!
@@TheObsessiveBookseller haha I bet it was one of those rare cases since its a lot of books😂 must be fun I'm sure! I just sometimes wish I had enough money to break able to hoard so many used hardcovers at the same time😄 well, I loved new recommendations from this video, that'd for sure!
@@nishthagupta1357 Thank you! Yes even with discount used prices this was ridiculously expensive. I don't buy anything else for myself (I'm kind of a minimalist but you can't tell by my book collection) so I can justify spending a bit more on books. This did set me back several months though haha. Worth it...
@@TheObsessiveBookseller omg i can understand! Budget is hard to maintain, I mostly spend on skincare & books so I can relate lol. Sometimes I oversplurge and the results & consequences are horrifying lol😂 but this book haul was something else for sure! Will certainly remember this one! Its every book lover's dream haul! 💜
I have several of the books you hauled, which I like because I never hear anyone talk about them. I have both of Carey's Kushiel trilogies, 1 book in each signed. I have both of Fallon's Hyyhrun trilogies, just read the first and really liked it. I have Sara Douglas Wayfarer series in PB, and the Hades trilogy in HB, but didn't know there was a 4th book until you held it up. I have Haydon's Rhapsody trilogy. I am trying to get all of the books by Feist, only have 8 so far.
Many others you hauled I have now added to my list, though I have no shelf space to put them.
Nice! It sounds like our tastes match up nicely - the ones you mentioned are still among my all-time favs. I also am running out of space haha. I don't think I'll ever do another haul this epic.
Damn you got some great hardcover editions of some series!!
Thank you!! Books are the only things I let myself collect with wild abandon lol.
I am suuuuper jealous of your Robin Hobb shelves! It looks so good! Awesome haul in general by the way. I'm discovering a lot of 'older' fantasy authors through this video, this is not good for my own buying habbits. 😅
Thank you - I really need to find all of her books in hardcover because of how much I love her. Haha I’m always happy to enable. Hopefully you like them as much as I did!
Same not good got buying habits lol😂
The Obsidian Trilogy is one of my favorite fantasy series, definitely recommended! I still haven't read the 2nd trilogy in that universe, I started it too soon after finishing and loving The Obsidian Trilogy and it was so different I got scared off. I think they're a great writing team so I definitely need to pick it up sometime though.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets intimidated by unexpected series continuations. Like, I loved how it ended, I made my peace with it ending, and now you’re going to go possibly ruin my good feels haha. There’s a few I’m stalling on because of that. I appreciate your endorsement, I made it about 100 pages into the first one but put it down because of slow pacing. But now that’s exactly what I’m in the mood for. I’m glad the whole thing is good!
I added a ton of stuff to my TBR. It doesn't need to be any longer but thank you lol
Haha oh good!! I’m always happy to enable a longer reading list. I can’t even look at mine anymore. I had to create a few TBR shortlists so I didn’t get overwhelmed.
Great video! Some of those books look like concrete blocks! You can skip the gym after lugging those books around.
Thank you! Right?! Haha who needs a lat machine when it comes time to shelf all of these?
Nice! I have a Sword of Truth hardcover collection too! Great series!
Thanks! One of my favorite early reads (aside from Pillars, lol). The only thing that bugs me is that that I have different editions, newer and older, so the spines don’t match! First world problems. XD
This was really a epic haul but it was a bit bittersweet seeing it now and listening to you talk about David Farland
Yeah, his death rattled me a bit. He had so many seminars and projects going on, and I was thinking of signing up for a few. It was a clear reminder to make the most of each day. I’ll miss his presence in the community. And it will be really hard to not have him see what I do with what he taught me.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller I personally never got to read any of his books( yet) but i know he was a well belloved person who welped many new authors. I am sorry for your loss and do wish you all the best in creating something that we would be pleased with.
That was fun to watch. I think I have the same affliction for book buying, sizing. Saw a bunch I did not know about and now must hunt for - thanks alot 😀. I collect advance reader copies when I see them cheap, consider them the Zero Edition, I still go for the hardcover as well. I believe there were no original hardcovers for Assassins Apprentice and Royal Assassin (maybe UK editions) and those trade paperbacks you have are the originals - I bought Assassin's Apprentice at release I believe. If y po u collect Mercedes Lackey she will need her own bookcase. I looked at her Bibliography and it is immense.
Thank you! I’m glad it came together. And I’m happy to enable more book buying on your end haha. I was surprised at some of the available hardcover titles because I’m pretty sure we only ever had access to the paperbacks early on in my career when I read them. It was so cool to find those Haydons!! It’s good to know I’m not missing out on Hobb. It’s a shame though, hardcovers would really complete the collection. I don’t really like the illustrated editions. I’m on the fence about Lackey. She’s major hit or colossal miss with me. I think I’ll probably stick to collecting just the series I liked. I get overwhelmed just looking at her bibliography lol.
Tad Williams does not disappoint in my opinion. I'll bet you'll upgrade that book to a full size someday.
That’s awesome, thank you! I’m just now getting going with the series - I hope I like it as much as everyone else seems to!
Great haul and some amazing editions!
Thank you! I can’t believe how many good ones I was able to find.
This was such a fun video!
Thank you!
Love the sci-fi!!!
Thanks!
I saw that thumbnail and I was like, "Back the truck up!" (literally).
#LFLR
"VBW"
Haha it would halt me in my tracks too. I still can’t believe how many I let myself buy.
Cool video, thanks for sharing! ✌️
Thanks!!
All of theses books are so beautiful!
Thank you - they’re going to be cherished additions to my shelves. I’m grateful I was able to find so many!
Niki, where do I start. Have about 75% of these. You will enjoy the Abercrombie series, YA, good story. I only read the first book of the Dagger and the Coin series, and must get back to it, it was shame that it only was released in paperback. Beaulieu I read the 12 Kings and liked it, and have the next two volumes, do want to finish that one. The Rama series was great, classic Clarke. Gear's Outpost is on my list to pickup. Haydon's series has been on my TBR for over 10 years. Hobb, agree what can you say, love her, and have read it all, would love to collect the first series in hardcover. Farland's Runelords series I have in all hardcover, and bough them as they were released, and they are still on my TBR, LOL. Grey Bastards, do not have that one, hope to see you review it. Crossroads of Canopy is also on my TBR. I have picked up all The Death Gate Cycle books in mass market, but have not read them either, are they that good? Tad Williams, great writer, I have everything by him also in hardcover. If you haven't read the trilogy, do so. Lastly, Janny Wurts, yes she is so gracious on FBR. I have started to put together that series as well, read the first book and enjoyed it, I can see it is going to be a complex series.
Well sorry for rambling on. Enjoy the new books.
Never a ramble, I always really appreciate you taking the time to comment! :)
I'm super eager for Abercrombie. As soon as I finish the adult stuff...
I read the first Dagger and Coin book twice before continuing. It had some pacing issues for sure, but the series gets a lot better as a whole. I'm in the same boat with 12 Kings, maybe we can coordinate a Buddy Read for it down the road?
Haydon - the first one takes a good 100 pages to get going. I imagine it's why it's not on many list because it doesn't have a strong start. But for amazing non-human characters and societies it's one of my personal favorites.
LOL on Farland! I've so many like that. I stopped at book 4 (one of my favorite books, EVER) because that was all that was out at the time, then decided to wait until he'd finished the series before rereading.
I can totally do a Grey Bastards review. It's in the same vein as many of the other cheeky grimdarks I know you've liked.
Death Gate was such a cool series. Very out of the box for its time. The first 4 books tackle different characters/settings, then they all start to converge for the final 3. Worth a read for sure.
I will try Tad Williams. Maybe this next year. Then I can kick myself for not getting the first two lol.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller Sounds like I have to get back to the Dagger and the Coin soon. Haydon also, Farland, and the Death Gate Cycle, so where do I fit these all in?????
Yes I would be interested in doing a BR of Beaulieu.
Williams, another mention, if you like Sci-fi his Otherland (four books) series was very good. Interesting concept, characters and settings.
That’s where I’m at!! Too many books (amazing books) and not enough time. I’ll keep in touch about Beaulieu. I appreciate the Williams recommend. That series has always intimidated me but you make it sound right up my alley. If I can finish at least a few of the major fantasy authors I’m exploring soon I’d like to try Williams within the next year or so.
Those older covers are so cool!!🥰 I am in loving this haul and so many new books and new authors for a relatively newb fantasy reader!! Can u adopt me?? 😜😅
Haha totally 😉. I’m glad you found some new stuff to read!
Hmm…I think I (or my mom) may have already owned some of these hardcovers that you’ve been searching for forever. Now I’ll have to go double check. Most of our books are paperback, but we do have some hardcovers.
Haha that figures. Which ones do you think? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen your family’s collection.
I really want to find war of the spider queen hard covers now. Nice haul.
Thank you! How do they compare to the main series? I’ve been interested in them for years but have never made the commitment to picking them up (probably because I’m still trying to get caught up with Drizzt lol).
@@TheObsessiveBookseller If you like your fantasy on the darker side they are very good. It has been 15 years or so since I read them so I'm not sure how they hold up compared to modern grimdark but they do follow several drow that enjoy being drow.
Thank you, it seems really in line with what I’m in the mood for these days. :)
I can’t believe how clean and uncluttered your collection is! I’m so not showing you mine.. ha ha Though I wish you were closer, would so raid some of your doubles…
Didn’t know about Carey’s urban fantasy series, just order from library.
Interested in your review of Janny Wurts novel. I worshipped her with R. E. Fiest, but couldn’t manage her on her own.
Haha thanks!! I spent my whole bookselling career making shelves look nice, so we can chalk that up to a trade skill. Although you should see it now - books are strewn everywhere! Carey’s urban fantasy is actually one of the strongest I’ve ever read in the genre. It surprised me how much I liked it! Top 10 UF works for sure. I’m nervous about reading Wurts because I’ve heard they don’t have quite the same magic as the Empire series. I’ll probably get around to it eventually, but it’s not high on my priority list at the moment.
Started off eith Abercrombie and praised him. I guess I'm subscribing then
Thanks! I think we’ll get along. :)
Wow, this was some haul. A lot of great finds, I can see why you're stoked! To my surprise you mentioned the Death Gate Cycle series. I've never seen/heard anyone talk about it either. I have the complete series in Dutch. It was left behind by an ex forever ago and I kept meaning to read it, but it also keeps getting pushed to the backburner in favour of newer books/series. So, needless to say, I would love to see you do a video on them. But off you saying you love them, I'll definitely give them a bump up my TBR :-).
I thought the R.A. Salvatore covers are especially gorgeous. Haven't read anything by him yet - do you maybe have a tip where to start?
Nice - a score from the ex! Lol. I think that series is so cool. I’m not sure how it will hold up now (I’m due for a reread), but the authors are great together and I loved how creative it was. The first 4 books are pretty self-contained in their own realms, but then book 5 marks a convergence that was super fun!
I love the Drizzt books. The Dark Elf trilogy is the first place to start. The unique beauty of that series is that each trilogy or 4 book set is chronological but very self-contained as well with a lot of closure, so you can read as far as you please and still feel satisfied! :)
@@TheObsessiveBookseller Okay, that sounds really good, that you can stop at certain points in the series, because I'm not particularly looking to start a huge series, as my wish is to expand my fantasy reading with a lot more unknown authors to me. But I'll definitely look into him sooner or later, so thx for the help ♥
@Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller I'll keep my eyes open for Kushiel's legacy series, the whole Malazan saga, and the realm of the Elderling series. If I get lucky by finding the self-published version of the Grey Bastards that would be a great find for me already
Oooh a self-pub of that would be amazing! I had it in my cart to order for a long while before it suddenly dropped out when the publishers got ahold of it. Kicking myself haha. I like the cover much better then too. I hope you find some of the ones you’re looking for!
I recently discovered your channel in my recommendation and I am wondering what if your recommendation for starting into these types of books? I own some of terry goodkind and Steve Erickson books. I haven’t heard much about them and don’t know if they are good books to start in this genre of books.
Have you read any fantasy novels that you loved? Erikson is so dense and hard to get into, I’d recommend saving that one. Wizard’s First Rule is one of the first series I read and I really liked most of it. The Dark Elf trilogy by Salvatore, the Belgariad by Eddings, and anything by Sanderson are great places to start. My personal favorite fantasy books are Draconius Memoria series by Ryan, Elderlings series by Hobb, and Powder Mage series by McClellan. Hope those help!
@@TheObsessiveBookseller I do already have some of those: I have the Dark elf Series by Salvatore, loves game of thrones, lord of the rings,I have Brandon Sanderson way of kings series. I just got assassians apprentice but Hobb.
Thanks for the other recommendations though!
Way of kings is awesome, one of my favs. If you liked Game of Thrones, you might also like Joe Abercrombie. Goodkind is kind of comparable to, with less politicking. Looks like you’ve got a ton of great reading in front of you!
Great book haul - i'd like to see what your favourite series are....
Thanks! I did a scifi one about a month ago but incidentally my favorite fantasy series video will be published tomorrow. It was hard to narrow it down…
That copy of Runelords looks like an early edition. Mine is far thinner.
My edition is about 20 years old… omg I feel old haha.
After watching that whole video, you clearly have a problem! Oh wait... I think I have the same problem... And I think my daughter is infected with it too 🙂
Oh, for certain I have issues haha. And now my husband (who hadn’t finished a single book in the last two years) has read two of his haul and ordered like 15 more online in the week we’ve been home. Book hoarding is contagious when we’re this enthusiastic haha. That’s so sweet she’s loving books too. I hope my kids follow suit as well.
Also, thanks for making it to the end of such a loooong video. :)
We can add that Chris Evans book to ones we want to one day BR. I've owned book one for a few years and it's just sitting there on my shelf.
The series that starts with The Phoenix Unchained is just okay, the last book dragged way too long. I much preferred the prequel series.
That sounds great, I’ve got a mental catalogue of the ones we’ve talked about. I’m hoping after hanging onto it for so long that it’s actually pretty good lol.
Good to know! I have that one as a medium-low priority atm and I think it’ll bump to low.
Yepp it is massive;
I wish you would do a book shelves tour of your dragons statues. Thanks
I can certainly do that - thanks for the suggestion!
alison baird looks amazing goat material there
Lol right? I haven’t seen any commentary on it, but I just know I’m going to stumble on a gem eventually. Even so, I’ve a healthy amount of skepticism for this one….
You can try to sell your double copies.
My husband and I were actually considering saving all of them as inventory to open up a scifi-fantasy bookshop in my area. It’s a pipe dream right now, but maybe someday… :D
Chika yo quisiese pero no pudiese
I heard if you have 1000 books its a libary
That’s so cool!! That means I can officially call myself a library! I don’t loan out my precious books though haha.
Everything is good but you are also cute 🥰
