The best way I can describe this song is it sounds like the soundtrack to the scenes that show the future in Terminator 2, and that’s a good thing. I absolutely love this new direction they’re going on and I’m not afraid to say it.
I remember to felt something like this with Fermi Paradox solo and Dark (TV Show). The Stage is mind blowing, every time I listen to it gets better, as well as Nobody (and Life is But a Dream will be, I hope).
I really really don’t like it, probably cos I’m old and nostalgic for unholy confessions, beast and the harlot, bat country etc… That said! Times change and grow, super happy for everyone that does love it, more power to ya! Plenty out there for me to go and find more like that original sound!
more i listen to it more i get addicted to it, but first time hearing it was so weird and mixed emotions that i instantly started listening to it on repeat. it has so many layers that it's imposiible to catch everything at once, every more listen reveals every little secret they put in this song. it's gonna be long three months before we get album (especially after teasing us with this "controversial" song) but god damn this song will get me throu that time quickly. i am greatful to be fan of a band that isn't scared of changes and doing "unpopular" stuff.
I felt the same. I didn’t know how to feel about it at first. It still has them at their core, infused with orchestra, a bit of grunge, with a bit of classical guitar playing, mixed with Pink Floyd. I listened to it for the first time about an hour ago but the more I listen to it and think about it, including after taking a shower, the more I like it.
This song is basically using their style from their last album The Stage and expanding upon it to take it in a new direction. I love how experimental this is, I really like this song a lot. Soo glad you decided to check this song out Geebz, I knew you'd find it interesting. Great reaction as usual Geebz, Awwriiight!!! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Long ago when A7X burst onto the mainstream scene they were young and really went for that hardrock, metal image of the 80s, mostly why they gave themselves stage names. They said that they wanted to be like "Guns n Roses" and so they were. I think now they want to be more like our generation's Pink Floyd and I think we need that. We needed them to be our generation's GNR and we need them to be our generation's Pink Floyd. I really hope this is their dark side of the moon or the wall and that it becomes an album that transcends our generation.
100%. I think Hail to the King was the final curtain on their GnR/Metallica-esc era. The Stage was the turning point and ‘Nobody’ sounds like a direct bridge from that album. I’m looking forward to it all 🤘🏼
That’s what I was thinking. They’re like if pink floyd was detuned and had a grungey tone to it. You can tell a lot of their influences from their past in their Hail To The King album. Doing Time is directly GNR and a lot of their other stuff is Metallica, Iron Maiden, and you can hear The Beatles in Crimson Day.
@@Emilmoolin most definitely When I heard the opening keys of The Stage, I was thrown back to Critical Acclaim and thought we were getting something similar but I was very wrong haha it was most definitely a change I’m sure we’ll hear another single within the next 5 or so weeks
I saw this comment on another video and i think it best describes the meaning behind this track, A man is depressed in the world and body he lives in. So his soul travels around the earth and through history to find peace and joy. He realizes that the world is full of death and destruction and so meets the devil who then tells him he will take the man's soul to a eutopic paradise. The man agrees and lets the devil take him to this eutopic paradise in a different world. When the man arrives he realizes that this "perfect place" is actually an artificially created hell where no one else exists and everything is fake (because a perfect artificial eutopic world does not actually exists). And so the mans soul runs to the edge of this hell and jumps off into the space time continuum to then rejoin his body. The moral of the story is to be careful what you ask for because you just might get it. Be careful searching for paradise because what you think is paradise might actually be hell in the end.
Yeah that's more or less it. The album is supposed to be based on the themes of Albert Camus' "The Stranger" and this song definitely hits that tone. You could also TL;DR it down to: Existentialism/Nihilism
He kills himself, that's why he finds the suicide note when he returns, his death allows him to view the world in greater perspective and he realizes no one is an individual and he is part of everything, yet he will never see anything from any perspective besides his own (thus "I am the sun") he's a man without a head because he is no individual and has no face. He then goes to heaven and realizes that too is meaningless and there is no heaven for him to go to, that the whole world is meaningless no matter what and there's no chance to be unique. He then returns back home to live his life, after taking in this new perspective and being okay to just live in this meaningless world, only to find his suicide note and be disappointed that everything is over now and it never meant anything.
I’ll have to admit the first couple of times I listened I was not a fan of it, but after a few more play throughs it is definitely growing on me. I can see more clearly how great this song really is!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one that felt the same way! It definitely took a couple listens to get into it and now I listen to it several times a day 😂
Same. Just like The Stage that album really grew on me the more and more I listened to it and it's my favorite album by them for that reason. It keeps giving me something new every time I listen to it.
As a long time Avenged and prog fan, I really wish I got this song as much as so many other people do. I really appreciate how they are always changing, which is why they are always one of my favorite bands, but there's nothing about this song that truely "hooks" me if you know what I mean. Anyways, I hope to someday see a slow burn decomposer lounge for this band, because their evolution is amazing. Songs like desecrate through reverence / remenissions from waking the fallen, strength of the world / the wicked end off city of evil, unbound / brompton cocktail off their self titled album, save me / god hates us off of nightmare, planets / acid rain off of hail to the king, and the stage / exist off of the stage really show how this band can be poppy, proggy, heavy, and dynamic all at the same time, and I think thats what makes a band be accessible while having depth all at once.
@@manoi8 Same vibes here. I didn't like the stage as a single when it first came out but I came to appreciate it over time, and same with the stage as an overall album. Always feels good though to know that a band is doing what makes them truly fulfilled. They could just release another bat country and call it a day, but they don't do that even though it might not jive with everyone.
The way I see it is like, this track is like seeing some crazy abstract artwork for the first time. At first you're like wtf am I looking at here and then you realise the more you look at it the more your eyes begin to flutter around finding new things every time and this experience is different for each person, 2 people could stare at a piece of art for hours and come up with a completely different meaning for the piece, something truly unique to them. This is my opinion is true art. I understand what you are saying about not having a "hook" as such but I think music relies to heavily on hooks these days, that's not what art is supposed to be about. A good comparison would be; this is like a completely abstract painting and more hooky poppy music is like a photo of nice scenery, both are great but the latter is what it is, and nothing more, whereas the painting could have 100's of interpretations.
@@SupChiefz I totatlly agree. I just want to clarify, when I mean hook I just just mean something that "grabs me" not like "chorus hook". Like theres just nothing about this track that makes me think about it while I'm in the shower with no other music on or anything. But the abstractness is amazing. Almost reminds me of pinkly smooth stuff, which is great. While it might not connect with me now, I hope it does in the future. It might also just show how I'm in a different place in my life than they are now though. I have recently been more about waking the fallen/pinkly smooth/sounding the trumpet stuff though, and thats not particularly about heaviness but about chaotic simplicity. Which this track has, just in a very different way. (Edit: listening back again, the prog element does give me a very "Between the Buried and Me" vibe that I vibe with).
you just pretty consistently named all my favorites from each album lmao. I actually like this song quite a bit but it took 10+ listens to appreciate it in its full capacity, it’s just very different
As somebody who enjoys unbound, lost, and some of avenged’s wackier tracks, this song came easy to me. First listen I liked it, second I enjoyed, 524th I loved 😅 it really is a song that grows on you rather than immediately gripping you, and I can confidently say I enjoy this song more than some of the more mid tracks on the stage, and even better than some of the great tracks on that album.
What I love about this track its that it is experimental yet quite simple in its structure somehow... sure they took some risks but you quite never get boring along the journey. I'm glad they did it this way because their last album rely almost exclusively on the experimentation part and half through it kinda gets just boring
You know what, I just realized that certain parts of this song reminds me of Gojira's song "Another World" from their most recent album. Does anyone else hear the similarities?
Gone are the days of A7X releasing poppier hits that grab you instantly (and I say that with love, they’re masterful at that). This reminds me of The Stage and I’m all for it. It still shocks me how experimental and varied that record is. It’s a record I’ll be listening to for years to come. Unfortunately some artists can’t please everybody and it’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Take Ghost, for instance - some older fans don’t like seeing them gaining true mainstream popularity, and the opposite is kind of happening with A7X. Some people just can’t seem to accept that changes in artistic vision aren’t for them. Keep it up, Geebz. Love your videos.
The high hats are genuine drum takes, played over the rest of the drum tracks. Avenged sevenfold pride themselves on everything you hear being genuine instruments. All recreatable (for the most part) live
Hey Geebz! Haken has a new album out! You thoroughly enjoyed their prior work, and there are PHENOMENAL tracks on their new album (Fauna). If you're looking for something on the heavier side, I'd recommend Beneath The White Rainbow; if you're looking for something funky, I'd recommend either Lovebite or Alphabet Of Me; if you're looking for wacky akin to Cockroach King I'd recommend Elephants Never Forget! It's got a bit of everything on it!
Dude I love how well you complement the music. It takes me 4-5 listens to hear the full song the way you do in one. Bravo. These guys are super smart and very meticulous. People have been hating on it hard. But don’t think they band didn’t already know that they were. There’s more to come for sure.
Yeah, I think a session with one song from each album would give a great perspective at how their style progresses, there are changes between each album
I really love that the music shines through this one and Shadows is more a supporting role, he even gets drowned out when all the other options converge for the “cave in”. Often he tends to overstay his welcome so to speak but here even the bass gets a time to shine as well as the ambient parts, excited to see if they do another 9+ minute epic with this approach as I think this could be their best work if things go right. Granted, The Stage is my 2nd favorite by them after WtF so I love proggy Seven
I'm so pumped for this album. I expected a heavier song as their first release, so that was a surprise...but it's a good surprise. I'm still drawn into the song. The video is some god tier stuff. Definitely looking forward to what's coming next. These guys always leave you on your toes!
The more I listen to this song, the more I discover about it. There is definitely a point to this composition and I'm not sure if it's unique to the individual or if they intended to portray their own experiences. That said, the solo is among my favorite ever.
Been a giant A7X fan since early '00s. The Rev is literally the reason I ever picked up drumsticks. I love their old stuff (City of Evil, WTF).. but I have loved their developement from Nightmare and onward. Each one building on the last album. Truly one of the best groups of musicians to bless the metal scene.
I was the same with this song as I was with the stage... Wasn't sure I liked it but when I started listening more and opening up to how different it is I loved it
The stage is definitely the next must listen from Avenged Sevenfold, has to be one of the most impressive songs I've ever heard and I'd love to hear you break it down!
I feel like the lyrics reference to the moment of death and your soul becoming free from the body. How the body will always be what it was and even though the soul was also what the body was it is now free to reach its full potential without the restrictions of the body. And the song being released is not the full transition from the last album but showing the moment where they are trying to separate but are still connected.
I read they really pushed themselves on this new album, and I'm shocked really. Not a big ax7 fan. But this sounds like a mix of the tea party, alive in chains, guns n roses and of course ax7. Can't wait for the album!
When I first listened to this track, I was fairly neutral, but it grew on me. Mad respect for trying something different in each album. Anyways, great reaction as usual Geebz, aloha!
I would love to see a reaction from 'Nevermore - This Godless Endavor',a very underrated band. They owned the Nickname :The best Band you have never heared from.Because they are not very popular, but everybody who hears them, loves them instantly!Thats because the Singer,Warrel Dane is highly skilled, and with Jeff Loomis you have one of the greatest Guitarist ever.Their style is progressive, creativ and very unique. This is truely a hidden gem in Metal music!!!!
never quite been a fan of a7x, not necessarily my cup of tea, but have always appreciated their experimentation and boundary pushing of metal. great musicians and talented songwriters, just still not my cup of tea.
Least you keep an open mind. I myself am very much rock and metal oriented in my tastes, so A7X comes to my ears naturally. Not to mention I grew up with some of their music, and I absolutely love how they structure their music, especially since The Stage. It’s a trip.
@Lazy Guy Coyote What's odd is I've been into metal/heavier music for as long as I can remember, just something about their sound doesn't appeal to me, not even when they were a metallic hardcore band, and leaned way more into the hardcore, the few songs of theirs I really like, are their off the wall experimental stuff... But they for sure have talent and I think if they did more of the strange stuff, I'd probably be into it. but they still have to sell records and make a living, which I have no gripe with whatsoever. completly understandable.
I really enjoyed watching this video and your deep insight into the music. Thank you for taking time out of your day to listen to this masterpiece...coming from an Avenged fan.
They've been doing that since City of Evil I think. BMTH does that stuff do and I'm fucking here for it. I was in symphonic/orchestral bands growing up and percussion ensembles and what not. I love when bands incorporate more traditional instruments even if only to round out their core band sound. The little things make the big difference
I think the way you describe and go over the song is right on the money! I really am banking on this new record of theirs to be some what of a concept album would love to see your reaction to more of their stuff!
Obviously bands change with time, but it is kind of crazy to see a band that I listened to when I was younger literally follow me on my musical journey and my tastes. By the time they released Hail to the King I was out of my "Mainstream Rock" phase and was more interested in their older stuff City of Evil Self-Titled and Nightmare. I was delving deep into Prog at the time, and Avenged Sevenfold decided to with The Stage and I am ESTATIC that they are continuing down the weird, progressive rabbithole they went down in that album. I would LOVE for you to listen to Higher off of the Stage, it's my favorite Avenged Sevenfold track ever, but I would not be upset with Exist it's their big "Prog Epic". Save Me could be considered a prog epic too, but Exist is a whole different level. Thanks for the video as always Geebz
I suggested INFECTED RAIN about 6 months ago, somehow someone else mentioned a band with similar name. INFECTED RAIN is female lead Ukraine band, came up and even toured with JINJER. One of latest trac's Postmortem -1 and 2 really showcases talent 😈🤘
@@RebelRoseAngel Taphaphobia has been my fav for long time now, then last album dropped Postmordem 1 n 2. Just released new single off brand new album, Killer song and new guitarist plus dialled in stage performance. 😈🤘Top 3 on my playlist with JINJER & SPIRIT BOX
Geebz, I have two requests you should do as a split video. I would really appreciate if you got in depth on the chord progression used in Pink Maggit by Deftones, and Is It Really You by Loathe. These chord progressions make me and many others evoke a emotion we didn't know existed. A lot of bands are blowing up using variations of this progression, and these two bands are their influence. Thank you man!
I feel like this is an evolution of Pink Floyd into metal... And I'm here for it. (Evolution may be a poor choice.. it's not better.. but has some tremendous influence from)
I'm so damn excited about the future of the band I have zero clue as to why so many ppl wanna trash all over this new song it sounds a lot like the stage which was an absolute masterpiece the only reason ppl wanna trash it is bc they haven't taken the time to friggin appreciate how absolutely beautiful the song is
I think a ton of fans just want them to keep releasing City of Evil over and over again lol. I love that era of the band of course, but I am thrilled to see them shattering the boundaries and trying something new. I loved this the moment I heard it, and it just gets better with each listen. Anyway, A7X is a band that’s ALWAYS changed from album to album, but people seem to forget that.
I don't think ive seen you do any A7X yet, have been a big fan of your Radiohead videos and also a huge A7X fan so was thrilled to see this vid pop up on my front page!
The thing that bugs me is that if this was a newer band I guarantee people would be going crazy about this, just look at bands like Sleep Token being massively praised for doing weird progressive stuff, but because it's Avenged Sevenfold people have a certain expectation of what they're "supposed" to sound like, even though they've consistently changed their sound multiple times. They've always been the kind of band to make whatever they want to make rather than making things that people expect them to. If you go back and listen to every album each one has more and more experimental tracks, they've always enjoyed pushing the boundaries and pulling from lots of different genres, they've just leaned more into that in the last couple of albums because they're the kind of musicians that don't see the point unless they're making something they're passionate about. They could easily release another album that sounds like City of Evil or Nightmare and top album charts, but that doesn't interest them, and you have to respect that whether you enjoy what they're doing now or not.
Meshuggah has a remaster coming up in not too long. Would you be interested in doing a side by side comparison to the original? I personally think that would be interesting and learningful, as i many times can hardly notice the differences in official remasters, to the originals 😅🎉 cheers geebz.. here we are, you're making me listen to A7X 😂

He realizes that the world is full of death and destruction and so meets the devil who then tells him he will take the man's soul to a eutopic paradise. And the solo reminds of the one from the song "Human Sadness" by The Voidz. It's melodic, epic and emotional at the same time
I had the same thought. After listening to this song for the second time it reminded me of another world as well.
Not at all. What's similar?
@@yasserjamilq8 the part just before Synaster's guitar solo.
Love this song, so excited for this album!
The high hats are genuine drum takes, played over the rest of the drum tracks. Avenged sevenfold pride themselves on everything you hear being genuine instruments. All recreatable (for the most part) live
This song is f***in phenomenal
Strong second! Please check out Fauna, Geebz!
Like others have said. This song has grown on me.
I have to admire that solo though. That was just beautiful.
Great reaction I absolutely loved it!
Thank you!! 😁
Yeah man, I totally agree. Hope your island was safe from the fires.
Brain is a seive, nice Up In Smoke reference.
This feels like a metal masterclass, my new favorite guitar solo.
I'll admit I didn't really appreciate this song the first time I heard it. A few more listens, and this video, and it clicks. Thank you Geebz
I was the same with this song as I was with the stage... Wasn't sure I liked it but when I started listening more and opening up to how different it is I loved it
Yeah, I had a pretty similar mushroom trip once
At first i thought this stuff will be boring.. but then after i played this stuff again and again i think now i love this kind of music...
The stage is definitely the next must listen from Avenged Sevenfold, has to be one of the most impressive songs I've ever heard and I'd love to hear you break it down!
I loved how jazzy that solo was. I hope Charles plays it lol
Would love to see you take a listen to Fair to Midland! One of the most creative bands to ever band
I love them so much. They make me cringe sometimes, but I don’t care because I just dig it. Would love to see folks react to them.
Love the song and love the video, not even the biggest fan of the band, but this is great, really interested in hearing the new CD now
great video and breakdown as always! glad you did this one! have a good weekend!
Completely agree about the legato, and cowbell :D. Love this track.
never quite been a fan of a7x, not necessarily my cup of tea, but have always appreciated their experimentation and boundary pushing of metal. great musicians and talented songwriters, just still not my cup of tea.
Geebz always remembering the bass!
First. Was waiting for you to do this song. It's getting mixed reviews in the comments but I think it's quite good. Can't wait for the full album
I really enjoyed watching this video and your deep insight into the music. Thank you for taking time out of your day to listen to this masterpiece...coming from an Avenged fan.
they had a 72 piece orchestra for this album thats a real trombone in there
They've been doing that since City of Evil I think. BMTH does that stuff do and I'm fucking here for it. I was in symphonic/orchestral bands growing up and percussion ensembles and what not. I love when bands incorporate more traditional instruments even if only to round out their core band sound. The little things make the big difference
Proof that avenged sevenfold has evolved and will continue to evolve, and that synyster gates will forever be a top 10 rock guitar player
I ❤ Orphan Soul
@@RebelRoseAngel Taphaphobia has been my fav for long time now, then last album dropped Postmordem 1 n 2. Just released new single off brand new album, Killer song and new guitarist plus dialled in stage performance. 😈🤘Top 3 on my playlist with JINJER & SPIRIT BOX
I love this yes it's a slow burn but so worth it
Please, someone make that "What a complete TRIP" a meme... PLEASE!!!
Avenge fold 7. 😅
Subscribed. Love the reviews dude.
Takes a few listens but damn masterpiece🦇
I feel like this is an evolution of Pink Floyd into metal... And I'm here for it. (Evolution may be a poor choice.. it's not better.. but has some tremendous influence from)
I still await a reaction to “So Far Away”. We will always love you, Rev ❤
Can we just acknowledge that this is the best band in the world. Nobody (pun intended) is making masterpieces like this
Lmao.
🧢
Thanks Geebz! ❤
“Avenged fold seven” psh, that’s the first.
I love it. The whole beginning your looking for a moment to pause but you just couldn’t!!! Hahaha gotcha
Afterlife is my fav Avenged Sevenfold track. Great vocals, great powerful sound, sick guitar solos, and beautiful chorus. Check it out!
Been listening to it repeat! 🔥 great song and super creative! Get’s better every time you play it 💯
Did any catch Geebz saying Avengedfold Seven? That was a hilarious mixup. Love ya dude!
I don't think ive seen you do any A7X yet, have been a big fan of your Radiohead videos and also a huge A7X fan so was thrilled to see this vid pop up on my front page!
I recommend checking out Haken's new album Fauna
I'm not normally a fan of avenged sevenfold. But this was a pretty cool song.
I really have never listened to them, but this is much better than I expected. I’m not a fan of the vocals, but I’m into the experimentation going on.
Incredible song
I'd love to see your take on The Occupants - Hindsight next
Brilliant! 🤩
Love you bro.. just wanted to say that
Thank you A7X, thank you.
Love this song!
Masterpiece
We need a review on some new Haken!!! Please!!!!
Haken just released a new album titled "Fauna," you should absolutely listen to Elephants Never Forget or Sempiternal Beings!
I was never a big A7 fan, but this song is amazing!
New music? In flames new album is nuts
i think the sweeps are taps and it sounds sick. or just a bit of both
You should definitely check out Haken and something off fauna. the ear candy will blow your mind
This feels like Dream Theater to me.
To me, the interpretation of the music video is this:
A man is depressed in the world and body he lives in.
I loved the Stage as a whole but I have to see with this one. Hoping for the best but I after 30 plus listens am not sold
Lol, Avenge Fold Seven? Great review!
I love getting a hall pass cause I'm old :)
I love this song ❤
A7X had a low point with "Hail to the King" IMO, but man did they come back with The Stage and this single. New album is quite promising
Lately I attended a Devin Townsend concert and, not surprisingly, Devin was great. Both supporting bands, Fixation and Klone were great, too. Klone is not a new band (founded 1995) by I wasn't aware of them. I bought their new album and it's really great. There are also nice videos of them around. Maybe you can give them a spot some day I think they deserve more publicity. Thank you!
Hi Geebz. Love you. Plz do an Avenged slow burn. They’re my favorites 😊
OH yeah! a7x foREVer 0 ❤️ . Thanks geebz
Hi, I love your reaction to music, so perhaps could you make a video with Live@Tampere Nightwish - The greatest show on Earth?
His voice sounds so different.
Hey Geebz! Check out Exist from the album The Stage. Great song
"the song is about DMT"
--M. Shadows
I'm serious
if you like this sound check out BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME AND FEAR FACTORY
