    Great video! As for transferring workers from the old outworld, I would have used cotton balls. a single ball could pick up a few ants with a single "dab", then you can just leave the whole cotton ball in the new outworld and remove them when they finally let go.

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад +2

      Thank you very much 😊 Yes the cotton balls would have been good…I might try that next time! Thanks for the tip

    Nice setup
    I realy like the out world i spesifically like glass setups.
    But i would like if it had branches or vines across the top of the
    Out worlds lid.

      Thanks for watching. It’s nice for the ants, they seem to love it and enjoy the extra space. I wanted to be careful what I put in there so they couldn’t escape. Some more height would be good though, so I might add a large stick of some sort eventually

    when do camponotus consobrinus have their nuptial flight?

    • @NovoAnts

      They have flown already, generally around November and December. I caught a queen this season, usually come across one or two queens.

    I love this idea. I'm going to do it tomorrow for my ants when they get out of hibernation but I'm concerned about the plaster being bad for the ants?

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  Год назад

      Glad you like it. The plaster is fine if you use a non toxic and make sure it drys out fully before you introduce the colony. Can’t guarantee that they won’t dig but none of mine have. I use plaster of Paris.

    I just noticed that the bag of sand was cut on the side... Was that the same sand bag you cut while opening that 3d printed nest from a few years ago?
    I know this episode is a bit old now as well but I never noticed that before. Lol!

    • @NovoAnts

      Haha if it’s the red back of red sand then yes it’s the same one. It’s cost a bit to outlay at the beginning but last for ages

    How did you drill that hole!?
    Could you just connect the outworld to the outworld, extension like?

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  Год назад

      I drilled it with a glass drill bit, you need to be really patient. Very fragile. Yes you could connect multiple outworlds together. 😃

    Hello, I know my question is a bit off topic, but I hope You will still answer it. So I was wondering how long did it take for Your myrmecia nigrocincta queen to lay eggs? Thanks in advance

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад +2

      Hi, sorry for slow reply, I didn’t see this message. The time varies a lot for a queen to start laying. Depends on her health, environment, stress levels etc. most queens start laying in the first month but I’ve had others take 6-10 months

    Nice, how big is this area?

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад +2

      The tank is about 2 foot. Good size for the moment. I don’t like crowded outworld but at some stage I won’t be able to keep up.

    How to make holes in glas?

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад

      I used a battery’s drill with a glass drill bit. Very slow drilling, watching the whole time. Took quite a while as I didn’t want to crack it. Thanks for watching

  • @maggieblount5251
    @maggieblount5251 Год назад +1

    What do you use to connect your outworld and nest?

    • @NovoAnts

      I use plastic tubing. Some from ant shops or otherwise tubing from a hardware store.

    I got a question my bull ant queen moved out the test tube with her larva and eggs what do I do maybe she likes it outside cause it’s dry

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад

      They do tend to move around to suit their requirements. Its not a bad thing but maybe give them another test tube with no water and see what happens.

    Its nice but I saw one that beats this easily.
    Imagine a canyong that's crossed by a bridge in the middle of the formicarium. Four platoues connected like that.
    Ants can go around and underneath at the bottom or go on top and enjoy the sight. Ants can go up via fake green plants reaching up in a bow.
    Channel: SnE Ants - Main Camponotus .... ( honest I'd love try to do that. Its far more 3dimensional than most things you see. Probably hell to clean though :)

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah I try for natural looking outworlds that also give plenty of room and are easy to clean. My next one I'm going to try a few different things. Thanks for commenting.

    How old is your colony? Had mone for 2 years and been stuck on 6 workers for ages. Lots of brood the larvae just dont seem to be advancing

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  2 года назад

      This colony is approaching 4 years. Your colony should be growing way quicker. Are they kept somewhere warm? Plenty of protein?

    • @carwyn1990

      @@NovoAnts i just leave them at the room temperature which is usually close to outside temps. I read to let them be cool in winter so they can semi hibernate? Also i feed them either a cricket or meal worm about once a week :)
