MAKING Ant Farms for QUEEN ANTS
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- In this video, I will be making natural ant farms for queen ants. These naturalistic setups will show how queen ants dig a founding chamber in the wild. I hope that these natural setups will increase the chances of the queen ants' survival, compared to the standard test tube setup.

aaaaaand finally I'm back with another video! Originally, I was working on an even longer video starting since April 😳😳 but I guess that had to wait, as I 'accidentally' worked on this when finding queen ants. So here we are after 600+ clips, almost a month of filming, and about a week of editing, I have returned with an even better video than the last.
Currently I have 4 other videos in folders, so all I have to do now is grind them out this summer. More videos are coming soon, so I hope you're ready for them.
I want to create more than one video a month, so as a result, I created a Patreon if you want to help support me. If you want to see more behind the scenes, current projects, and even shoutouts in future videos, check it out for yourself :D Even if you're not planning to, I greatly appreciate you reading this.

Definitely the longest comment I have ever written for a video, but I feel like I owe it for the lack of uploads this year. Hope you're all doing well, stay hydrated this summer, and bestest of luck with finding queen ants! See you soon friends.
I recommend doing something familiar for your Veromessor. As they are harvester ants, they love to dig and so they'll love it (Just my opinion 😜).
I love your videos and I can't get enough of them so i am more than willing to join your patreon. (Doing so now!)🤗
Unfortunately, the queen died a while ago out of unknown reasons 😔😔 The workers survived, and I cared for them until they all died out too. Hoping to find another soon, because they were really cool ants.
🥺🥺🙏 Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Ender Ants great video
An update video on these colonies would be really cool!
0:56 lmao!
HEHEHEHEH
Sick video man! Congrats on 4K subscribers!
Thank you dude!! 🙏
I think this is better then test tubes because no mold and queen ants enjoy digging their own chamber
Those are also some good points!
YES I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ITS 10PM DONT CARE!
Edit: its 10pm so i wrote 10 am BIG BRAIN
HAHA thank you for watching 🥺🥺🙏
@@EnderAnts no worries! It was very interesting
Why would you have to care for 10 PM? Who tf sleeps at that time?

I watched your video till the end and I could only say "ant keeping" half way trough. You truly are a man of your word!
Dude, this is by far the most interesting video I've seen this month, and i just HAD to try it out. I actually now have one of my newly caught camponotus noveaboracensis and watching them find just the right spot, and dig out the perfect hole is just crazy cool. She was seemed to relax way quicker than most queens i tube.
Ooh, nice, and thank you! Yeah I can agree, its really interesting and entertaining watching them just dig out a chamber. Wishing your queen the bestest of luck founding a colony!
I love ants I did so much research I want to know were u got that box because its perfect
Walmart
Ikr I also love the box it has the perfect size
I've just found some that look identical on amazon.

@@EnderAnts question how do you keep your ants in a container?
Since they don’t always crawl to the top, I keep the lid on, but not sealed all the way. If they do go to the top, I use an olive oil barrier
@@EnderAnts ok it's just I have just found the European fire ant or myrimca rubudis queen I cant remember there name have you got any info on them?
Unfortunately I’m not familiar with them, but I’m pretty sure there are on forums like the AntsCanada Forum, and Formiculture.
That was a lot of queens there, I can't believe all that looks so good yet few materials were used now that's what we need(I need more ideas to make formicaruim/outworld can you help on that???)
Substrate, sticks, moss, tufts of grass, and bark are the main materials I use for making small setups. I have another video like this coming soon too :D
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast
Yeah🤣😂 me too
HEHEHE THANK YOU GUYS! 🥺🙏🙏
ll Ender Ants ll you do know that’s a high five emote I didn’t

Same queens together wow a lot of workers

THE RETURN OF THE KING
🥺🥺 I AM BACK ONCE AGAIN 🙏
i have been searching EVERYWHERE for something like this! thanks!
HEHEH np np, hope it works out well for you!
Ender, where do you get the acrylic boxes? I must have some! Lol!
I wondered the same thing
Question, where did you get those little containers you used for the set ups? Cause I wanna try this, what you're doing but I need a container like that
Walmart
Amac boxes
Great Video as always! Im asking, how do we give it oxegen? They would probably die without oxegen
thank you, i dont leave the lid fully on, so thats how they get their air. for a few other nests, i drilled a hole and glued mesh to the bottom so i could leave the lid sealed.
Your method truly worked great for me! I did it with my Melophorus ant queen and it worked. She already has a small batch of eggs.
Glad it did, Melophorus are cool ants too!
@@EnderAnts Thanks, Melophorus are my no.1 fav!
If you want to know more about these ants, go to ant wiki!
I caught the dark rover ant queen in august 2020 in my backyard
Bestest of luck with her, i hope she founds a colony for you :D
@@EnderAnts thanks now they have 8 workers I think and are doing very well
This video was amazing and the footage was great they waiting definitely paid of. Did you warm the sides so they dig there or were you just really lucky? I really loved seeing the dorimyrex queen digging her chamber i need to make more naturalistic setups myself
Thank you Ant Land! I watered the sides a lot more than the middle, so I think thats why they dug there. And I can agree, the Cone ant queen was really cool yo see!
The quality is insane this is why am you r the best
🥺🙏 THANK YOU FISH RULE!!

Cool idea, it will be interesting to see how your results play out.
Yup yup, I’m excited to see how the workers will dig out!
Hey ender ants, I’ve been subscribed to you and have been following you for a couple years now and I just wanna tell you how insanely your videos have been getting. The quality and your editing skills are really showing and you have improved so much. I love seeing your videos and I can tell how much time you put into each one. Your videos are getting better than the last. Your growth reflects on your talent and ability to put out content and SEXY ASF shots that makes ants Canada look like an amateur. I hope you keep on growing and you see major success, fellow ant keeper:)
Thank you so much for being here for such a long time, and I’m glad you have noticed the improvements in my videos! Even better one’s are for sure to come, I can promise that :D
Awesome video! The quality is amazing!
Thank you’s! 🙏
Nice cinemetography! You got some neat footage of your queens digging. Makes me think this is a better alternative to just putting queens in test tubes. They wanna work!
Thank you, its turned out great so far. I’ve heard it works well with Harvester ants, so if you have those, do put them in a sand/dirt setup!
@@EnderAnts that's all I got is pogonomyrmex! Will try it

Congrats on 4K subs!
Thank you! :D
For the hydration problem: use multiple plastic straws stuffed with cotton balls, coat with fluon of course, and stick it at the corners of the substrate. Then just pour water into it.
AH! That’s a good idea, I’ll try putting cotton in straws at the corners. Thank you for the suggestion!
Such a great advice and such a great video. Thank you
Thank you for your kind comment mikoants :D
That a really nice video. Very informative.
Should do more updates on these guys.
Can you make a video on making a mini ant vivarium ?
Yes, I have had that on my list for a while. Hopefully I can get it done this summer!

Ender Ants yes,one of the best!
Ender Ants can you do another antscanada parody?
Yes, haven’t thought about it, but I can see if I can. Just know something like that is coming soon 🤫
Nice video! I really liked the wonderful footage that you took. The way that this video was made was great. Only problem is the Pheidole tysoni queen.
Thank you! This video is probably my best in terms of videography. I asked on instagram to help ID the queen, and most have said it was some kind of Solenopsis/Thief ant.
How do you catch queens, and what is your favorite method?
I made a video on how I hunt for queen ants and a tutorial on how to catch one last year. What I do is make a formation with my hands until the queen crawls onto me before catching her :D
You just posted this video at the same time as AntsCanada!
11:14 thief ant eggs at the bottom
I love the video and the music and also I also caught a new queen ant and she has workers and my queen ant has so much larvae
Thank you :D and congrats! What species are they?
The species is solenopsis
ahh nice nice, they’ll be growing quickly in no time then. Bestest of luck with them!
Thanks
what do you do when they outgrow those nests am not sure but to me is look likes its glass or no tube holes
I place the container in an even larger container :D
I going to build my ant nest now
great vid I also recently caught a brachymermex queen my self (I think that's how you spell it?)I caught it around 9:00pm at a tennis court for anyone wanting to catch one
Thank you, and nice find! They’ll be quick to grow.
How do you move colonies out of dirt setups like these?
What i plan to do is place the small container into a larger container :D
Love the vids man, looking forward to that vid you’ve been working on since April😁caantt wait bro
Thank you! It will be my best video so far once it comes out. Definitely will be taking a lot of time on it :D
ll Ender Ants ll So happy to hear that bro I’ll be waiting for that notification to pop up in the future😄✊🏻
This is good idea
Hope it helps :D
What size is the cube at 2:08? And what was the soil? My past ant cube had dirt and was hard to see them.
It is quite likely that the other 2 queens have nested slightly lower than normal because different substances can effect nesting in the wild
Yeah, I’ll definitely experiment with other substrates
Very good vlog. Murder, mayhem and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat. I’d like to know where you picked up the containers.
Judging by their appearance, I believe those are AMAC boxes.
Hey! My double queen vicinus colony is doing great and I recently caught two camponotus quercicola, do you know if they are polygenous? Great video, amazing editing too
Unfortunately, I don’t know if they are polygynous. I think its best to keep them solo, but try asking in forums to see if anyone has experience in keeping them with multiple queens
I know this is late but I don’t think so
Sweet video... your narrating is great
Thank you!
Nice editing
Thanks thanks! :D
What is the best weather/time of year for catching pheidole?
Were did you get the red sand from?
What did you use for the container?
So were not soposed to worry of feeding queens only water for moisture untill workers come get her food?
Yes, unless the queen ant you caught is semi-claustral. Those types of ants need to be fed before having their first workers.
Awesome video buddy!! I found you a few days ago and absolutely love your channel! How do you plan on moving them to a bigger nest once they outgrow that one? Thank you! In Jesus, Jonny
Thank you man! Once workers start foraging a lot, I’ll just place the entire container in a larger one.
Hi! I have been watching your videos for a while and had a question i have a queenless messor barbarus colony and was wondering would i be able to introduce a fresh queen
There's a chance that the queen will get killed by the workers. Its best to brood boost her instead, but if you want to take the risk you can. How many workers does the colony have?
@@EnderAnts around 100 workers could i slightly refrigerate them to calm them
Yes you can, but there still is a chance. If you had multiple queens, I would try one so that you still have another just in case.
What container do you use?
Love your videos
Thanks thanks!

Where did you catch those queens
I caught these queens at a park :D
I really want to do that with ants soon.
Hopefully you catch one this year. They’re flying in the US right now, just have to look in the right locations at the right time!
@@EnderAnts is it better to look for queens at night or daytime?
And do you have any knowledge about what species are in the Pacific Northwest & flight times? It seems there's a ton of info about US ants from everywhere but here 😂
