    This was so helpful. Just bought a set of SLX brakes but the website didn't say they weren't fully assembled. I've done bleeds before, but never installed hoses before, so hopefully your video will help me to minimize my screw-ups when installing! Thank you!

    Love how easy Shimano make this stuff! I really think I can do a full oil change in about the same time it took me to swap a brake cable.

      Nice! These have reach adjustment as well. Only difference is XT has a free stroke adjust as well, but I’ve heard it doesn’t work too well, I opted to try SLX

      @@TheBikeSauce Engineering-wise, the master cylinders are identical to XT. Take out the blank cap with a pair of circlip pliers and put a screw in there. I put gold ones in mine because it looks awesome, and if you don't like it, you're wrong. Can't remember the thread size sorry.

    For the bleed is better remove brake pads and push the piston back , insert che the bleed block to lock the pistons. Connect the Shimano funnel with oil and press lever . When you don't see air bubble , remove the funnel with oil , remove the bleed block , reinstall the brake pads and done.

    • @TheBikeSauce

      Happy new bike day! They set the lever position in or out (it’s called ‘reach adjustment’). There’s no right or wrong position; set it where it feels comfortable and where the lever isn’t pulling all the way to the handlebars

    You mentioned being able to use the preinstalled barb on the new hose if you don't want to shorten the line. I noticed the barb has a film over the end to keep the fluid in. Does this film need to be removed first?

    Great, detailed explanation, thanks! The "olive" is called a ferrule. I turn my bike upside down and pump the brakes too. This is why I take mine to the bike shop... so I don't have to buy $100 in tools to do a $20 job 🙂

    • @TheBikeSauce
      @TheBikeSauce  2 года назад +3

      Haha ferrule is the cap that goes on the end of brake and shifter housing.

    • @tamasvarga67
      @tamasvarga67 Год назад

      Why would you need to buy $100 tools to do this job? The only thing really necessary is the $5 plastic funnel and some mineral brake fluid…

  • @AwesomeAngryBiker
    @AwesomeAngryBiker 2 месяца назад

    totally wrong dude, You don't need to remove the bolt or olive from the lever, they are left in there intentionally and the cable just sits directly in (after cutting). The other error is the cable is not prefitted with a barb. The thing that's in the cable is a plug simply to stop the mineral oil leaking and this must be removed before attaching to the lever. On the cable just below the sealing plug is a small marking which indicates the minimum amount of cable that MUST BE REMOVED before inserting the supplied barb

    • @TheBikeSauce
      @TheBikeSauce  2 месяца назад +1

      😆 removing the olive and nut is a personal preference to make sure the barbed hose sits fully in the lever. Neither correct nor incorrect.
      Of course the cap on the uncut hose isn’t a barb; we ended up shortening the hose anyway.
      Why are you an angry biker? Bikes are supposed to be fun 😀
