- Do you want to catch more redfish, black drum, and sheepshead?
Mud crabs are a great bait for these predator fish, and in this video, you’re going to learn how to catch and rig them.
Capt. Jud Brock of Eastern Angling is back and for this tip, he’s taking us on a field trip down to a muddy, rocky shoreline right next to the marina.
He’ll show you:
- Where the best places to find mud crabs are (and the best tides)
- How to tell the difference between mud crabs and stone crabs (stone crabs are heavily protected - you don’t want to use them as bait!)
- What not to do when you’re looking for mud crabs
- How to rig them to catch more fish
- And much more

Nice tip on the mud crabs -
Great video
Good vid Thanks Man !
Great vid! Ty
Got a brother that plays for the other team?! Goodnoighttt!
Great video. We catch tog on that set-up in NY and CT with half green green crabs as well as asian and whites. Because a half green crab looses the integrity, we hook in one socket and out the other. If you do this with these, the hook may not look as exposed as you show but the shell will have less risk of breaking. Now for my question - and I am on the insiders club but don't use it as I should, are there more mud crabs found in the summer as opposed to winter? Also same technique for reds and black drum?
Do the little fiddlers crabs I see at low tide in NC work to. I need to check regs when I’m down next to see if legal of course!
They sure do! they just arent as hardy and can get striped off the hook by trash fish much easier.
Does all salt water crabs are good for fishing ? What types of crabs you recommend.
Thank.u
What size bottom sweeper do you use?
depends on the depth and the current
Can you trap these in a minnow trap like we do mud minnows in coastal georgia? We see hundreds o the mangrove roots in the back trails kayaking? Advise to use clorox on oyster cuts to kill bacteria.
What weight jig do you recommend to use crab , pin fish for bottom fishing 🎣?
