150/150 are excellent numbers for off the shelf parts and very correct assembly methods were used in both videos. Only worry for the guy who's a burnout king. Broken clutch Basket call be a disaster. The young new builders have great teachers at JP and I know you don't want any surprises for anyone.
Hey Patrick! I love your video's they are detailed, exact and straight to the point! - the information is always very relevant. I watched the whole series, learned a ton.
Hi Patrick, amazing video and want to get these same upgrades done to my bike, slightly confused as at 0:35 you said there's installation videos of every step of the process, and your article mentioned once we have all the tools all we have to do is follow the video series. Only issue is that I can't find these installation videos/series anywhere on the entire RUclips channel. Are they still to be uploaded? If you could point me in the right direction it'll be massively appreciated! Cheers Patrick
I have a question on fuel consumption. How far do you get on the 5 gallon tank. If you're group riding, does this build turn you cruze in 100 mile fuel stops?
I did 131 screaming eagle kit Harley’s tuner is rubbish And screaming eagle parts are inferior to s&s . Snorting farting ,backfiring Isn’t making power. Cannot not be compared And all done at dealer.
@@joepere784 that doesnt sound like a parts issue sounds like whoever put the cam chest together didnt know what they were doing or doesnt know how to adjust pushrods. There isnt much of a difference between Harley parts and S&S. Most of the top engine builders in the country start with HD cylinders, heads, cranks and cases

@@joepere784 didnthe same mechanic that put his bike together put yours together? Sound like an installation problem and not a parts problem. The only issue with the tuner is that its epa compliant and there are no CA tunes available.
No. The bigger injector is used for the increased engine capacity and output where the stock injectors won't flow enough fuel. A stock injector flows plenty of fuel for the stock engine.
I can't justify building a big twin. If I was gonna build a Harley to go fast, it'd be a Sportster. Those Sporty engines are way overbuilt, their bottom end can handle 200+ HP and last 100,000+ miles untouched, they're lightweight and they're just a way better architecture for power production, and it shows. They make a shit ton of power with a big bore kit and cams, and they do it reliably. Comparably, the price you spend on a big twin for the little return you get? It just doesn't seem worth it to me. Intake, exhaust, a cam and a tune is about as far as I'd go on a big twin. After all... That $35,000 Harley with $$$$$ worth of engine work to make 148hp, is still waaaaaaaaaaay slower than some bone stock Japanese 600cc bike. But you take a $11,000 Sportster and spend $3,000 on the engine, you're making more power than the big twin in a bike that's hundreds of pounds lighter for tens of thousands of dollars less.
Great vid Patrick, garage porn for sure! I appreciate your explanation behind each component choice, helped me understand what you were doing and why. Bummed I didn't get to twist the stick on this thing when I was in Sturgis!
@@roncoburn7771 Yes way, 100%. This is a $30K bike to include parts and labor, at least $12K in parts. The only thinks that look stock are the tires, rims, tank, and frame.
classic harley- underpower the bike expecting and banking on customers taking their bike to j&p cycles and or/zippers so basically you pay 23-26k for that fatboy then pay another 10k to make the power what should have come from the factory. Or you can just buy a triumph, kawasaki, indian, honda, etc and save the 10-15k and have a bike that will have less issues does the road
Now that you spent $20k on cool-guy parts you snap the teeth off of 3rd gear because you now made the transmission the weak point in the drive train. But hey, you can afford another $5k for a Baker bulletproof trans, right?
Read Patrick's article about the 148hp Softail build here! bit.ly/3o8FOxj
Normally I’m not into Harleys, but this thing is cool AF.

Top of the line parts...Big Bucks...curious to see what the total $ retail cost of parts on this job?
Me too.
Hey Patrick! I love your video's they are detailed, exact and straight to the point! - the information is always very relevant.

You guys should do a “budget “ build with a Softail Standard. $3,000 limit. Ergonomics, suspension, performance. Show how to plan out a budget build.
3k won’t go far
You can get suspension and a cam with that if you shop right and know someone who will install for cheap! Unless you can do it yourself!
Excellent build and top job with the video as usual. 150HP & TQ incredible must have been a lot of fun to ride
I know you have separate videos but I wish the install was as detailed as the disassembly video.
It appears a Harley Milwaukee Eight engine is a good engine as long as you replace all of the Harley parts. 😂
I would like to see and hear it run !!!!
How much did the build cost ?
How much did it cost for the build.
I'm surprised you did not use S&S easy start cams. Used S&S 97ci big bore kit for my 88. Makes a difference in starting..
Milwaukee 8 has electric compression releases in them from the factory.
comp delete and chain conversion on stock transmission? hope you plan on swapping that out soon

We will be releasing 1/month starting this Saturday. I'll add links in the description.

@@jpcycles Perfect, thanks Patrick, you da man!
How bad does that cam shake at the light?
Why not a DarkHorse comp? I think it might need it with the extra tourque.
What was the estimate on total cost of this build?

Basically yes
Granted its not as much power but the cost of the S&S parts alone is the same as a 131 crate motor and you dont have to split the case.

Im curious to see how long the stock tranny will last. Keep us updated please.
No Timken conversion at all?
You can only do that on the touring M8, not Softail M8....at least according to DarkHorse
What is your opinion on a big cam in a 131 crate motor?
I’ve got a SE Stage III 122 kit installed and produce over 100 Hp. Should I install the SE 5.5 gallon Fuel injectors or will it cause problems ?
Would aftermarket fuel injectors make the bike better on gas
No. The bigger injector is used for the increased engine capacity and output where the stock injectors won't flow enough fuel. A stock injector flows plenty of fuel for the stock engine.
nice build iam at 160 hp 155 torque all for around 4 grand
What was the ride?
What kind of parts?
Must be a mean ride
I wanna hear the thing
Excuse me all too hell. Clutch basket. Not shell. I forgot I was talking to someone who's a terminology snob.
Must be nice to just throw $10,000 at a bike like that... LoL
Really believe the clutch shell should be updated to Trask or an equal unit. Stock shell is very weak.
Well you don’t know it’s not called a shell so your advice doesn’t hold much weight.

Wait… was this a 107 or a 114?
Doesn't matter, you're replacing all the pieces that make them different
I’d say 107 for the 75hp he stated.
It's a 107.
LOL, $12,000 in parts AT LEAST!!! There's about $16000 dumped into this bike on top of the cost of the bike.
no way
