    I honestly don't know how you don't have more subscribers. Your content is clean and refreshing. The editing, simple backgrounds, jokes, animated backgrounds, etc are all super good. I've seen people making fun of your voice but if anything it gives you more of your own uniqueness and I like it. I could def see you blowing up with your great content in the future.

      There are so many people covering retro handhelds that it's easy to fall through the cracks. It's less about quality now and more often about timing and luck.

    • @CFWhitman
      @CFWhitman Год назад +4

      @@View619 Well, he covers more than retro handhelds, and quality pays off in the long run. His subscribers are going up really quickly. Subscriber increases tend to follow a geometric progression for a time with successful channels. He has half again the number of subscribers as two months ago.

      In theory, content should be king but presentation also matters. It's difficult to be successful on social media without being attractive. There are a handful of channels that hit 1 million plus subscribers without the presenter's face being shown but those are largely generalized channels that cover data for mass consumption such as news and product reviews. This is more of a niche electronics channel where that personal touch is important. TechDweeb probably doesn't have looks going for him which is why we never see his face but unfortunately, his nasally voice is also quite distracting; hurting his overall chances. Life is very unfair and it really is such a shame because he clearly knows his material. With that said, he IS putting in the effort despite the cards he is dealt and that should be worth something. Hopefully the algorithm will favor him one day.

    I got mine this week and oh boy is it fun! I had a PS1 when I was really young, and never really experienced GameBoy games until my older brother let have a go on his GameBoy Advance. The only other consoles I've ever had were handhelds - Nintendo DS and PS Vita. Playing Pokemon for the first time properly is actually really fun. For years I hated Pokemon games. I never saw the appeal. But now, at nearly the age of 30, I am enjoying Pokemon. I've also got Space Invaders for the PS1. I remember when my dad got a copy of the PC game and installed it on all the computers in the house. It literally tore our household apart as we all competed to reach the final boss. Being able to play that SOAB on the go is just so nostalgic. Crash Bandicoot too.
    ...and to think I was gonna waste my money on a Nintendo Switch.

    I ordered one. It'll be here tomorrow, and I absolutely cannot wait. I ordered 128gb sd card for it too, because honestly I don't trust the no-name sd card these come with, and I'd just be wiping it to add my own roms anyway. First thing I'll do is just test it as-is, make sure it even works right. Then I'll grab OnionOS, and start the process of figuring out the folder structure and copy roms over. I'm legit excited.
    I actually have a Retroid Pocket 2+, and while I like it, I'm not the biggest fan of the fact that it uses Android. It comes off feeling like I'm opening files on an 8 year old low-end phone, as opposed to playing a game on a game console. I'm also looking forward to the vertical form factor to give me that game boy nostalgia.
    (I ordered the Atomic Purple. Might get some replacement black buttons though later, to match it better to the Atomic Purple GBC.)

    I just received my Miyoo Mini + from Amazon after a week’s wait, and while I had to deal with a faulty micro SD card that came with it, I’ve had an overall positive experience. I’m glad that I was able to install Onion OS using a better micro SD card, and thankfully, I had a sizable rom library handy, so I had games to install onto it already. It handles NES, SNES, and Genesis games pretty good, but what amazed me was how crisp the Gameboy and GBC games looked on it. And the controls are so smooth and precise with the Gameboy games, I was zooming through Super Mario Land! I was surprised at how smoothly it handles PlayStation games like Bloody Roar and Tekken 3. I’d say the tricky part is the arcade roms. It gets very selective on which roms are compatible. And while it handles 3D PSX and Saturn games smoothly, I can’t say the same with 3D arcade games. A minor gripe, but forgivable. Overall, I’d say that the Miyoo Mini + is worth it for those who have the time and patience to tinker with it, and don’t expect to have one shipped with a working micro SD card; save some RUclips instructional vids just in case.

    I just got mine this week and just today got a better SD card and put the new OS on it. The difference is night and day. It's basically like you said, what it comes with is OK, but making your own is better. I brought in my own roms without numbers in the filenames and without the junk games I don't use. :) Using a high quality SD card makes a huge difference in performance of the system, also.

    i was lucky enough to pre-order 15 units from keepretro when they opened pre-orders.
    i received all of them early last week - just in time to wrap them for holiday gifts for all of my relatives!
    though to be quite honest, i find the original Miyoo mini to be actually a little bit more comfortable than the Miyoo Mini plus.
    the Mini Plus feels good sized, but its shape is really not that comfortable tbh - the lack of a chin is what makes its less comfortable than the original Mini.
    the reason i say this is because with the original mini i would essentially hold it literally from the top with my index fingers and my thumbs would fit perfectly where the D-PAD and face buttons would go, but with the Mini Plus it doesn't really work out that well because the distance between the top of the device to the trigger buttons is significantly longer than with the original Mini.
    its probably because i have long fingers so i guess its a subjective issue but it is really unfortunate because otherwise this is a really darn good little handheld!

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад +1

      Mm+ because I like the look and form factor of it better. For me a device like this needs to be able to live comfortably in my pocket, the mini+ comes out a bit ahead in that regard. I also like the Retro achievements, I've been enjoying having that with the wireless functionality on the mini+. But honestly they are so similar I would be probably just about as happy with either.

      @@TechDweeb Both games are fantastic action 3D platformer games. Actually it's my first playthrough for Soul of the Samurai because it was too difficult for me as a kid. A beautiful game reminiscent of Onimusha and Genji. With the save states, these games have become more enjoyable to me. I couldn't play these games on the Mini cos they require the use of the shoulder buttons and the Mini is just too small but with the Plus I'm able to do what I want. It's mindblowing that I can play these games on a handheld device

    Question for the Miyoo Mini + and Anbernic RG35XX, how easy are the buttons to press? Are they similar to an original Gameboy or even the switch? I ask this because I'm mostly paralyzed on the right side and I couple of the retro hand helds I bought in the past have greater resistance to pressing than the original consoles and it makes them mostly unusable to me. Thanks!

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад +4

      I just gave them a feel for ya. I'd say the buttons and dpad are nearly identical to the original gameboy, they feel 99% the same. The only difference is that the start and select on the Miyoo are clicky compared to the GB's mushy, but they're still easy to press.

  • @elim9054
    @elim9054 11 дней назад

    I still think this is the king of the ~50 dollar bracket, unless you absolutely can't tolerate the size or the form factor. I personally think the vertical form factor has a lot of charm, and I don't mind something this inexpensive not having analog sticks. It's like if a GBC was more compact, played more games, and had a way better screen and firmware.
    I just got a second one for myself because my girlfriend plays on my first one all the time and AliExpress is having a Lunar New Year sale. I've got a small collection of handhelds at this point, but this is the only time I've bought more than one of the exact same model. If Miyoo ever releases the Plus in that transparent blue color I'll probably buy a frigging third one, too.

      They're pretty similar. I'd personally choose the mini +, but the 35xx is still great. The 35xx is a little bit more comfortable, and it's a little cheaper, but other than that the mini + is SLIGHTLY superior in every other way, so get whichever ticks the boxes for your needs.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад

      Sure thing. Open the retroarch options (in onion it's function plus select but it will depend on whichever system you are using), then under the quick menu go down to options, and in this area there will be an option to "show interlaced video".
      When you've done that, if it works correctly, under that same quick menu you can go down to "overrides" and select "save game overrides" so this setting will be applied every time you start this game.

    • @TechDweeb

      Handheld console? On a budget, the RP3+, although you won't get full speed in all games (like 80% of games will run problem free, most can be upscaled). Not on a budget, something like the Odin, Ayaneo air, or even the steam deck, if you need 100% of games to run without issue.
