Watched a guy pull out of the field back in the early 80s . 7 bottom plow pull behind type. Raised the front, but forgot the rear . Blacktop really rolls off the maul board nice. He only went about a 1/4 mile 🤣👍🇺🇲 #craphappens
My hats off to you guy! I'll stand up in the room when you' all come in. You work harder than most people in America and you do it with a smile on your face because you love your job.
I used to tell my guys in the military that the only time you have to worry about a mistake is if someone gets killed or hurt, so it really struck a chord when I heard you say it. The only thing worry and stress do are kill us from the inside out.
I always told my guys “in the midst of death, we must and shall wage war”....and it seemed to work. When I went through ISLC, the leadership was absolutely terrible so I had to rely on past experiences with good leadership. Staff Sergeant Daniel Kieley basically taught me how to be a warfighter and lead.
At least the road was easier to fix than say a couple of holes in the side of a barn would be to fix, don't you think Dougo? 4:20 :-) At least it wasn't an asphalt road.
I want to see anyone just try to do 10% of what these men do. You don't have to point out, or make fun of anyone's mistakes; much less any of these men who work their asses off 15 hrs a day doing multiple jobs.
I knew a guy who plowed a state Hwy with a 3 bottom plow. I've made some dumb mistakes. My largest, driving into a mudhole with a 4wd 75 hp JD. Don't ask.
By the way this was my wife's phone. Never changed the Google. She passed 2 yr ago in June I enjoy your farming episodes. I get angry at John Deere engineers! Karl HAMILTON McIntosh Fl.
Chet, after you dump turn around with the gate up and ejector all of the way forward you can drop the pan and go back over where you dumped and smooth it out like a box blade!
When you digging like that you can have the gate in front open a lot more so if you hit a rock with the cutting edge the rock doesn't try fold the gate into itself. (I've seen that done) and you only need to close the gate enough so the dirt isent falling out. When you try close the gate all the way that's how it binds shut. You'll be able to load the scraper until dirt is rolling off the ends then. The gate may be 2 plus feet from the cutting edge but dirt ain't falling out.
That’s ok , The farmer I worked for his son dumped a manure loader on a freshly paved road and the forks went in the pavement and stopped the tractor , I was behind him with the spreader on the other tractor almost ran into him , big ugly scar on the road but we were ok I was seventeen years old , thinks happen . Thanks for the great videos stay safe
The ram that pushes the plate forward is called the skirt The pan the holds your 20 yards of dirt is called the belly pan. Keep the belly pan low to the ground when spreading the soil to keep it less clumpy. Like have it about 4-6inches off the ground

Seriously, I don't think I know even one farmer with decent sized equipment that HASNT tore up a road, a mailbox, a bridge sign, or the neighbors prize Apple tree ( ok.. i was tired and I was watching my front end instead of looking back). The key issue, as you showed, is manning up to the mistake and making it right. All it cost me was a little ribbing from my friends and neighbors and buying the deputy County engineer a beer at the Elks. Thank goodness most of us live in communities where folks understand that accidents happen when you are busting your butt to make a living. God bless and stay safe guys .
This is why I love this channel!! Good guys showing how doing the right thing sucks some times, but they do it together for the greater good of everyone!! #Hats off Merlin and Dougo!! #Doing the right thing for 3 generations! WOW!! What's up Doug?
Hey Chet , my father-in-law worked for the WPA in the 1930s driving a team of mules pulling a wooden wagon that did the same thing your big yellow machine does , accept it was all operated by hand and a heavy maul to knock the boards loose to open the bottom dump . I don't know for sure but your Grandfather could probably tell you more about them. This ol man really enjoys watching all of your videos . God Bless and stay safe ❤
Hey Chet . Ive been looking at your sub numbers . You guys have picked up around 5000 new subs in the last 6/7 days . Pretty soon you and Eric will be able to give up your night time job grading county roads . Well done to all at Larson Farms . I love this channel .
It was my pleasure while I was back home at an old watering hole to see you all stop In. Kinda set me back a bit like"am I gonna be on camera ? Lol. Loved seeing your whole crew celebrating a birthday and a safe harvest! I almost waited around to see if your fellow u tubers showed up but figured if they did I'd see it later!
Chet your doing fine under the working conditions. Moving wet heavy dirt is difficult for experienced scraper operators. I wish I had took better care of my neck when I ran farming equipment 😥
Chet. Dude, do you want to be able to love on your wife in the future would probably be better if you drag a ladder out there to get up on the Slick piece of Steel. Because loving on your wife works better if you have teeth in your mouth, not knocked out from hitting your face into the steel machine. I know you're an adult , but it only takes a second!
I run a excavator for living I'm in the Union I've been in the construction 40-some years but I've been in Union for 26 years when I'm not doing my construction I help on a farm and I've been doing farm and helping out all my life
8:30 I see a stronger ram cylinder coming (maybe why it sold so cheap?) Also from other videos, don't I recall a rotating bar at the top of a (newer) scraper for feeding or chopping chunks better? Just some thoughts. LOVE that you film and show both the good and not so good. KEEP SENDIN IT #168
You can try not putting the pan all the way up when dumping. Put up like a couple of inches then start dumping. Keep a wave of dirt flowing in front of the pan. Usually comes out smooth as can be when the soil moisture is right. I live in Louisiana so we deal with gumbo ground as well.
Hey on the posotive side we now know that if you have to rip a road up for any reason, it can be done lol. Great video likevalways thanks for sharing alot of the aspects of what goes on in yalls day.
I’ve been really watching some of the tech that’s slowly catching on in states that are fairly arid and irrigation is more common. They are putting in combination irrigation and drain tile, storing runoff on farm, and applying inputs with the system. It’s not feasible where I’m at right now, we could easily go 10-20 years and never need the irrigation component. But if it does keep getting hotter, ya never know. Our land is so high priced compared to the land out on the plains, which is another huge draw back. But I’m thinking, getting cheap land and putting in a system like that places you in a better position over all than any other farmer! 110% perfect moisture, perfect inputs...
Can’t beat good friends! Big Sweed seems to be one. It always amazes me all the computer stuff you all have to deal with! Thanks for all your hard work keeping America fed!🇺🇸
Hey Chet does that scraper bowl have a 3 piece cutting edge? If so you may be able to drop the center edge down lower than the other 2 possibly making it easier to pull and less clumpy. They call it the stinger.
Great video I remember when the Scrapers where all cables driven and no Air Suspension or air seat we created subdivisions. Reading the grade sticks on the side of the cut or fill those where the day's.
Yep what don’t kill you only makes you stronger, y’all got a great attitude after a long hard day only getting longer Let see some big whitetail buck some time 🦌
Ripping up the road wasn't the dumbest thing I have seen. At least the operator owned up to it and didn't want any one to get hurt because of it. To many in this day and time blame it on someone or something else. Got to respect him for what he did after the fact.
My grandpa ran a scrapper for over 30 years. He partook in the construction of i90 and many other roads in southern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota.
Just curious, do you have to call the county and tell them what happened? I know you all fixed it, probably better than them, just funny what they would say or do. Never heard of anyone folding up equipment, pulling out of a field and not feel the pull or strain on the tractor.....
Wah wah wah, we're only human! All along I thought you were infallible aliens and it was our secret. Well Winnny, I once saw a gravel road ripped up by the scarifier on a road grader lowered in error. The operator fixed it on the spot while we watched. Your selfie stick matches your tractors. You make us laugh too, which is why we love you, and the faithful swede. Great video. Peace.
Great video and that thing reminds me of a wood planer but only for dirt. LOL That is a heavy load of dirt.....mercy!!! Hang in there............good job on learning that scraper! Awesome!
Dedicated scrapers have the seat turned completely 90 degrees the the right, so the operator doesn’t ruin his neck... but they still ruin their necks 😅 and back, and knees... but the guys who can operate one can do some gnarly stuff in them!
It's videos like this that are going to make your channel even more of a success. Show us the good, bad and ugly. Let's us see that you are human and make mistakes too. Love your videos!
First timer here. Saw that #80 and had to watch. Still love the old cans. Have moved a lot of dirt around with them. Take smaller cuts in the gumbo. Maybe 1 1/2 or 2 inches. Try keeping the bowl lower when you're unloading. I need a replacement tire for the front of my 80. Anybody know where there is a 21.00 X 24 twenty ply laying around? Tread irrelevant, just needs to hold air.
Thank your Grandparents, your Mom & Dad & yes of course you Chet & wife oh yea don't forget Eric, Randy for all you do, GoOD On To All That Keep Us Fed
Here in Florida we run 4 Reynolds 14yard Pans, which is similar to a Scraper but we don't have a push dump, ours is a hydraulic tip dump. We grow potatoes and the fields have to be completely level so we can make irrigation ditches. Which are closed, leveled and then pulled every season. Tons of work but I absolutely love growing potatoes!
Somebody under powered the gate. Maybe need bigger cylinders. Really the Gate should be the last thing to stick. Dad had a Cat 40, behind a D4, in the 50s until the 80s. Then we got a D6C and a Cat 60 cable. We convert our cable Cat 60 to hydraulic in the 90s.
Ya my 2011 620 always had problems to where I ended up down sizing a little and just running 380s they damn near can do as much and I don’t have enough land that I can’t manage being 20 feet smaller with implements always heard good things about the fendt 1050 but definitely want a 620 for scraping though!
It’s just a road not an arm or a leg. Made a mistake , but best of all made the repairs made it right , ( no arms in the air screaming what do we do who do we call ). That’s a Farmer the best part of America 🇺🇸. Was raised on the Farm until the call of the 🇺🇸🦅🌏⚓️🇺🇸. Went to a Foreign land halfway around the world because defense of our values is important. No Freedom no innovation no farmers to feed the world 🌎. Great 👍 content as always.
I ran a Euclid scraper (self propelled) on the farm I worked at in the late 1970's. Our leveling system was made by R & L eyeballs. Made some goo ditches with it though; especially when cut the sides to a taper. It was a noisy thing though. If you never venture out on something you never learn anything. Have fun!!!
Loven you guys showed this, cause no one ever admits fault. And sure avoid making right. But most of all teaching every one stuff happens and we are only human and can make a mistake.
Just started following you guys. Cool stuff. we run a large construction/heavy machinery outfit in Montana and then a tech company in Minneapolis. A bit of a dichotomy but we love your footage. One thing, your confederate flag is lame man. Stands for a lot of stuff you don't want any part of and should have no affiliation with. Losing side of a war, racism, bigotry, all that bad non-American stuff. Everything else is peachy, keep it up!
Wouldn’t a D9 dozer be better for pulling that gargantuan scraper? Rather than using a $500,000 farming tractor! I do know how scrapers work that’s a lot of torque that tractor has put out the pull that thing and I’m not saying pull it empty dragging it literally.
Years ago, my brother in law didn't shut the laser receiver off on our tile plow when moving to the next field. Caught the laser going down the road and sunk the plow 6 inches into the gravel road at 18 MPH. Said he looked back and saw a wall of gravel spraying up. Had our 99 quad trac turned up so high, he didn't even feel it for 1/8 of a mile.
My father had a scraper since the late 70's on our farm.he worked construction equipment and worked way up north before farming. He has a great eye and dug ditches just by his instinct. Always worked excellent. Chetry bring a shovel with you to keep the cutting edge clean of stuck on dirt. Works much better then.
Good bad & ugly, we all make mistakes. Except Dad I understand he never makes mistakes. Oh forgot the metal damage at the old barn. 🤔 Enjoyed it all, thanks guys. 👍Old Hickory, Tn.

My hats off to you guy! I'll stand up in the room when you' all come in. You work harder than most people in America and you do it with a smile on your face because you love your job.
I live in southwest Iowa we have a few roads down here that would be an improvement on them if a farmer would drop the ripper on
I used to tell my guys in the military that the only time you have to worry about a mistake is if someone gets killed or hurt, so it really struck a chord when I heard you say it. The only thing worry and stress do are kill us from the inside out.
Great comment. The military is obviously dangerous. As far as civilian jobs go, farmers ain't got it easy. Safety safety safety!

Class act for correcting your mistakes, more of a class act for sharing it with the world. Thanks Larson Farms, Chet & The Big Swede.
Chet, after you dump turn around with the gate up and ejector all of the way forward you can drop the pan and go back over where you dumped and smooth it out like a box blade!
That gumbo ground like that doesn't smooth out well until its dry and broken up unfortunately. Its terrible to work with.
@@Brian-dj8en I’ve dealt with it plenty, it works. You might have to go over it a couple of times and with a quad track? That helps even more.
Dude, you have a good attitude about mishaps! That will keep you sane! Love the vids.
You can try not putting the pan all the way up when dumping. Put up like a couple of inches then start dumping. Keep a wave of dirt flowing in front of the pan. Usually comes out smooth as can be when the soil moisture is right. I live in Louisiana so we deal with gumbo ground as well.
“Worlds heaviest selfi stick”.. nice..
Might help to have your pan closer to the ground when you eject; the cutting edge will help level the excess material that gets ejected
Hey on the posotive side we now know that if you have to rip a road up for any reason, it can be done lol. Great video likevalways thanks for sharing alot of the aspects of what goes on in yalls day.
Why is Eric called the big sweet?
I’ve been really watching some of the tech that’s slowly catching on in states that are fairly arid and irrigation is more common. They are putting in combination irrigation and drain tile, storing runoff on farm, and applying inputs with the system.

The road needed work anyway. Now it's the best part.

Erik seems like a heck of a guy to have helping around the farm...that road probably needed to be re-graded anyway haha
can you use a rear view mirror?
We’re learning. Sounds like a younger Dougo. Chip off the old block. Hard working knowledgeable young guy.
Wonder if you could make a hydraulic rolling basket for the back of that. Cut down from running 2 tractors over the field.
Ripping up the road wasn't the dumbest thing I have seen. At least the operator owned up to it and didn't want any one to get hurt because of it. To many in this day and time blame it on someone or something else. Got to respect him for what he did after the fact.
very true , i,m guessing he accidentally caught one of those light touch remote switches, would,nt have happened with old school lever controls
Top man the big swede, keep up the good work 🏴👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Chet, check your flow to the gate circuit, you should be able to open that no matter how full the bowl is.
I've never ran into problem like this

Maybe go help Cole the cornstar with his storm damaged corn...the farm tube community would love it. (Yes, daddy cornstar paid me to say it)
Hahaha... :)
Wheeled scrapers(627, 637, 657s from CAT at least) have a seat that is mounted on an angle so your neck doesn’t end up like yours today ;)
Wouldn’t a D9 dozer be better for pulling that gargantuan scraper? Rather than using a $500,000 farming tractor! I do know how scrapers work that’s a lot of torque that tractor has put out the pull that thing and I’m not saying pull it empty dragging it literally.
Chet.
A new farm tool to work with the gumbo Boy that soil is a beast. Take Care Chet Be Safe Alway's Around all Farm Equipment.
Chet FB vid. That’s some machine💪. great on you looking after rented land 👍
