@@RLaidEPeas really well actually. I was surprised that a room full of comics might be the most supportive, kind group of people I’ve ever met. They had no reason to be but it made a huge difference

I'm 60 is it to late to do standup. I'm always looking to do new things did my first New York City marathon at 55 took me 6 hrs to complete but I did it.

It's never too late! And the stand-up comedy scene is generally very welcoming to people of different ages. Give it a go!

it is never too late. I did it back in my first college experience my last time was at 2015, just because I graduated from that college and I haven't had the time, but lately I been really tempting in starting it again just need to work on my "rocks" first translation "rocks" Joke ideas that eventually you can mix together which eventually become a set.

@ I agree I did comedy 7 years ago during 4 terms, but I never got the guts to do open mics

Hmmm? You did comedy but not open mics? Improv or sketch comedy then? Theater? 😊

I’m 43 and I used to wonder about that too. I agree with Markus. I think Ron White and Lewis Black had most of their success later in life and they’re still performing as seniors. I hope to try stand-up open mics soon when I think I’m ready. I want to rush out but I want to show respect for the craft and prepare. Several comedians have mentioned that it can take about 10 years of open mic until they get successful enough to make a living off of it.

For an open mic show how much material should you have time wise?

    •  3 года назад

I recommend five minutes. Most open mic spots are around that length. The shortest I've seen was 3 minutes, and at the show I produced last night I gave them 7 minutes. You'll have fun regardless!

Tony Hinchcliffe, as you may know, currently does his ‘Kill Tony’ podcast in Texas (maybe formerly here in CA) and each open-‘mic’er (miker?!) gets only 60 seconds unless they were close to finishing a joke and only needed a little more time to finish. Then he and the other famous comedian guest cohosts interact with the new comedian, compliment and/or insult/roast them and ask for the comedian to introduce him-/herself. Pretty cool 😊
