You missed one. Instead of a metaphor, there is also the talent of telling the exact truth, in a way that not only is immediately misinterpreted, but also makes the listener ask "did he REALLY say that?" or "what does THAT mean?" I was at one of these presentations, and everyone was to stand up and tell what their job was, in one sentence, then sit down. At the end, we had to write down which one we wanted to know more about. Everyone there picked the same guy, who stood up and said "I pass gas for a living." The moderator changed the presentation on the fly, having everyone write down what they thought his job actually was. He was well dressed and well groomed, with a clear voice and intelligent look. We all guessed that he was an anesthesiologist, and were smug that we understood the slang used by medical professionals. And we were all WRONG -- he drove a PROPANE DELIVERY truck. I can't tell you anything specific about what anyone else there did, just him and me. There were some real estate people, a couple of doctors and nurses, a college professor, a motorcycle cop, etc. . . .but were just people doing stuff that people who attend those presentations do. Every time I see a propane truck, or think about "passing gas" in any sense of the phrase, I remember the one guy there who didn't have a business card.
Love this! Thank you for sharing!! Awesome
Being funny. Comedy.
When is "passing gas" to mean "propane delivery" telling the exact truth? I know what you're trying to say, but the exact truth it isn't. It's using a funny figure of speech to make it interesting. He was just playing around with context.
@@pastorisaac3235 When is propane delivery NOT "passing gas" . . ?
@@SoloPilot6 when you are NOT releasing it into the atmosphere.
"It may not feel the most comfortable, but it looks the most comfortable to your audience." THIS is what so many people need to hear.
He gives cliffhangers, and use some simple tricks to both catch and keep the attention of even me that normally have an attention span that is like dory the blue fish in finding nemo. Great presentation, saving The advices!
I think anyone who saw more than 3 F's have an over-active imagination.
Thanks for sharing such useful stuff.
What a brilliant presentation , not just info , makes one move up , great takeaways . Gratitude Mr Gold. A story indeed
what I notice is that good speech comes from good attitude of personalities, so be good persons.
You captivated me in 30 seconds and I remained interested for the whole duration, wow a success from a tictok brain. Didn’t know I could learn so much in that time, not a moment was wasted and very useful. Thank you ops should have thanked you at the beginning.
👍✨
what is so incredible about the "F" excercise is that I KNEW there were going to be missed "F"s that belong to words that I will most likely skip over - and I STILL counted 3 Fs. Missing the "of"s.
I counted 5, but people stood up for 6??? Where ?? l don't see 6 🤔🧐👨🏻💻
Same, I managed to miss the 2nd "of". There are 3 oFs, plus Finished, Files and scientiFic.
Excellent. Thank you for posting. For sharing.
Nathan! That was an excellent presentation! 💥💥💥
Take aways
Use stories, metaphors and analogies
People are always paying attention to
Money
Security
What makes them feel significant
Sex
Use your face during your talk, it communicates most of your message
How Your voice is used is also crucial component of what people hear.
I also would like to say for your consideration to thing of why you seek this audience. If you care about them in what you do they will listen beast. Love is the key to all communication that has understanding. The motive is always clear when it is love. You need to earn trust and respect or they will say Yes and not hear a thing. They will be cautions and even suspicious if they do not understand your motive is love and care for them to teach them something good or bring a good idea to them to consider.
Thank you for a great video! Keep up the good work!
What a great educational video! Thank you 🙏 very much!
This is excellent, not just another motivation video. Many great takeaways here. Thanks very much, Nathan Gold.
One of the best lectures ever!
Excellent reference to Dr Albert Mahrabian's work!
Wonderful..wonderful presentation… proof you can learn priceless information for free. Thank you!!!
I wish I had an incredible speech training as such in my teens. Great delivery! I stayed interested throughout the session. Thank you!

I honestly wished I had teachers as captivating. Even if I can get distracted, he does know how to make people laugh, and I like presenters that make me laugh. Thanks for this!

Found the magic power of emotional appeal as a .pdf, thanks :)
Amazing Presenter, Thank You so much.
In order to captivate the audience in just 30 sec i need to watch 30 min. You see how hard it is to achieve the good work
LOL!
He wasted the first minute telling us he wasn't going to waste a minute of our time.
@@patrickgriffin4221 to do
@@patrickgriffin4221 yes, but how much did you pay?
@@kingsxkids At least one minute of my time.🤣🤣
Thanks Nathan so so grateful I found you. This is gold nuggets Wow and this is going to help me build confidence and knowledge in designing a unique speech about my personal life experience. I was bought up in the ole education system around metaphors, similes but I hated doing speechs in front of the class room - was like facing a firing squad! - Thank You and God Bless. So my Take Aways (not not Food) USe Storys. Analogies and Similes, my protective armour...
Cheers
Yes! This was a great useful educational presentation. I'm grateful I came across it at such a time.
I think he fooled you big time.

Great presentation, I learned a few things that I will incorporate into my future videos. Specifically the storytelling.

Thats Gold, thank you
Off the charts useful!
Excellent!!
Thank you so much ❤
I gave you the minute, that's all you're getting!
“I won’t waste a minute of your time”, then immediately wastes some minutes of their time.
When he pointed out the other 3 F's I couldn't see it on my mobile device. Can you guys point it out to me?

6:30 ''they all look the same, smell the same" says Nathan wearing his slim-fit suit and a tie ;)
He was speaking metaphorically.
And he opened his presentation just like everyone else!
Slowly and always learning!!
Thanks a bunch!👍🏻💯💢💥
30 seconds plus 30 minutes to watch the video!
30 seconds in and I haven’t been captivated…
Also I wonder regarding Dr. Albert Mehrabian's work, how much bias regarding gender, skin color, and age influence the impressions of face.
Awesome.
Thank you 😊
Thiis is so helpful
Bro that first part had me trippin 😂
great👍👍
I thought he was going to say "to get everyones attention in the first 30secs ask them to write things down."
There is a subtle irony in a video lasting 34 min, about how to captivate an audience in less than 30 seconds
If you have an injury like I have it gives you more time to stand up. Since my surgery which allowed me to walk again it doesnt allow me to get up from a lying flat position. The soalr light is a great idea but the music is very distracting for anyone with a slight hearing loss. Better to have silence than disturbing music.
This a fantastic content.
Thank you for this opportunity to learn valuable skills. And, to all you fellow viewers, what is the presentation skill that matters most to you?
You captivating my attention. I,am bored before 2/3rds of your lecture.
You do know that you can get through this 34 min video in 17 mins right?
Wow wow wow.this is so helpful.. u didn't waste a minute of my time
Is it not ironic that a video teaching people how to capture their attention in 30 seconds is half an hour long?! ;-)
Interesting. I hear this from people on occasion. What you missed is this: I showed you how you can do the same thing to your audiences with your content but I needed the 30 minutes to show you how. I teach by example. This is not an academic exercise. Take care. Stay safe. Test negative. Be positive.
So essentially you are saying to beat around the bush to capture the attention of someone.. like a bait n switch…I totally get it!
Halfway through, he talks about infusing Getty images into your imagination in order to increase creativity. Paul McCartney said, “the key to creativity is an active imagination.
When I walked into a meeting I was running I would set off a small firecracker , not to big give everyone a second to settle down and wake up and I had their attention
THANKS
I love this
Great presentation. A lot of valuable takeaways to incorporate. ❤️ the messaging and critique of the video which is to keep things simply simple. Thank you for a wonderful perspective.
Thank you!
Promises not to waste one minute of their time, then proceeds to do just that.
Ok now to use these takeaways to make tiktoks or shorts.
7:20 is his first point.
420 is my last point...uh, joint.
Isn't the answer found within the first 30 seconds? He says, "I promise I won't waste a minute of your time." 😄
I don’t know why but this makes me think of watching paint drying backwards. Quit at zero and you win.
This is gold
Thank God
I appreciate the info, but, I have to make the joke, that, captivating an audience in 30 seconds or less takes 30 mins to explain. :P Thanks again for the info!
No, you really don't have to make the joke.
@@Anvilshock Yeah, I do. Cuz, I did. And, it's done. So, what now?
@@djpvma Sure. I was just addressing your terrible misconception that there be a need for it. Because there wasn't. Yet you made it anyhow. So, … yeah.
@@Anvilshock Do you always walk around with a stick up your butt, or only when someone disagrees with you or makes a joke? Get a life already. Cuz, based on your replies, you clearly don't have one.
the answer is you have watched this entire techniques so don't complain you have been influenced 😂
How to Captivate in 30 Seconds - BUT you need to watch for 34 Minutes first
okay but were are the rest of the Fs?
lol in the word "of" which appears 3 times - it took me for ever to find them too
Wow
I was wondering where it was too 😂
And the reason is because it doesn't "sound" like an "F," it sounds like a "V."
I really liked the way he said 'Okay ' with sexual voice 😂😂
This was gold by Gold.
Nice
Is it just me, or were other people "not captivated?" I started glazing over at 10 minutes. At 10:30, I decided to post this comment, then move on to another video.
Tq sir
Promises the audience not to waste a minute of their time...... immediately wastes their time asking them to make a list😂
I'm sorry you did not see the point to that step in my process of captivating people's attention in less than 30 seconds. If you thought I was wasting time, so be it. You are entitled to think whatever you want. In my 15 years of using this technique on thousands of people, I have had only a handful of people react as you did. Therefore, while it might have wasted your time (1 minute) it usually clears the mind of my audience and they always smile when I tell them, "Now, you should have nothing on your mind! We can go full steam ahead with my talk." Take care. Stay safe. Test negative. Be positive. Question: Did you learn a thing or two about how you can captivate your audiences after the list making? I hope so.
Am I the first to view this this year?
