    I love listening to the rose anvil 2 channel, because its so much less formulaic and genuine. Rose anvil's main channel has a place as I always love the material analysis but the rose anvil 2 always goes into the fine details of the industry and materials and its great to watch.

    Bought my first Crown Northamptons this year; one hi-derby in the buffalo and one of the cordovan sneakers. I could not be happier with them or happier that I came across your old teardown video that convinced me to pull the trigger and give the brand a try.

    The first video I ever saw by Rose Anvil was the Crown Northhampton Hand Stitch cut in half video two years ago. Back then I was a man of great means and wealth. I’ve since bought three pairs of their shoes. I now live a humble life, but I have some incredibly good sneakers.

      They offer the same shoe with buffalo or calf leather for 1/2 price.
      I have "cheaper" (~350e) shoes with chrome excel leather from them and they are also really nice.

    Being a sneakerhead, it boggles my mind that there are those out there willing to part with thousands of dollars for some Travis Scott or Off-White collab Jordans with absolute rubbish materials. I would gladly pay the retail price for a pair of these beauty.

    • @flabiger
      @flabiger 11 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I always thought that was strange. Lots of sneakers are artificially high-priced and are made with easily sourced material in factories. Not sure what justifies the price on those other than that everyone else wants them and the companies have purposely made a "limited" run to inflate the price. Whereas Crown Northampton's are using materials that are not easily sourced (horse butt cheeks are not readily available) and are hand making shoes (which is much slower). You can argue about whether someone should pay a $1000 for a shoe. But if you are, you might as well get a shoe where the price reflects the material and labor.

  • @itsnotunpleasant
    @itsnotunpleasant Год назад +6

    After the original review I actually went to the factory (I live in Northampton, UK) and met Chris. They made me a pair of what at the time were unique to me trainers. Their Upton style (which is also whole cut) in cloud Kudu suede. They are amazing! I love them so much. Crown Northampton (and Chris in particular) are awesome!

    I had my eyes on Crown Northampton from another channel, who endorsed Common Projects, so I waited for a while for you to cut one in half since you had already proved the internet wrong once. I waited a while but finally bought a pair of their off-white veg tan and the arch support is so unexpected! Those soles are super soft (so nice). First time I put them on I wore them on carpet and that soft sole and carpet combo made it feel so squishy! They even threw in some saphir renovateur because I used your promo code. Next time I need sneakers I'll definitely check out Crown Northampton again!

    I read most of the Reddit post about the common projects, and yeesh! That person was super butthurt. I’m pretty impressed by how that guy thinks he knows more than someone who works with leather for a living. Finding poorly researched, overly pedantic rants like this one on Reddit is honestly like finding shit in a porta potty. Also wanted to say that I started a boot collection thanks to this channel, keep up the awesome content!

    I know you've worked with both so you probably don't want to step on any toes but curious how you rank the two premium British sneaker makers?
    My impression is Goral makes slightly better shoes than Crown's standard line for about the same price and Crown's premium, handgrade shoes are way better than Goral's but are two to three times the price.
    Obviously there are also subjective elements of style etc but talking purely about build and material quality.

  • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
    @UnknownUser-rb9pd Год назад

    According to Stitchdown these are made of Horween Buffalo leather, that is actually American Bison.
    Also, just because something is the highest quality doesn't mean it should be the most durable.
    Edward Green boots are far higher quality than any Pacific Northwest boots (and far more expensive) but are much less rugged and wouldn't last any time on a loggers feet.
    I'm pretty sure those Lactae Havea soles will not last as long as the normal vulcanised rubber soles but will feel better when you use them.

    • @hawkevick9184
      @hawkevick9184 Год назад

      They're maybe more refined but not higher quality

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd Год назад +1

      @@hawkevick9184 This is where it gets into how you define "quality".
      Generally, outside America, luxury items aren't necessarily more rugged but more refined and I suppose more "luxurious".
      Take luxury cars, you have luxury sports cars like Ferrari or luxury limousines like Roll Royce but these aren't more rugged than a Ford F150. Similarly a bespoke suit or pair of shoes from Lobb or Cleverly will not last longer but be more comfortable and refined and with higher quality leather.
      You can also include watches amongst that. A Patek Philippe mechanical master piece will set you back half a million dollars but won't be as rugged as a $10 Casio watch.
      And Pacific North West boots are quite crudely made even compared to similar price point boots like Crockett and Jones.
      They serve a purpose and do it well (though in UK and Europe workers in forestry would likely wear cheap steel toe cap boots) but I suspect it is probably only Viberg that could be described as "high quality" with a high level of attention to detail comparable with brands elsewhere.

      I think when the word buffalo is used in North America it’s really just colloquial term used for Bison. But I think true Buffalo are actually in that family that includes things like an African water buffalo. To me that’s more like a wild bovine. I don’t know for sure though, not a biologist.

    • @Enrico-
      @Enrico- Год назад

      Yes, the American Buffalo (Bison bison) is more correctly the American Bison and it's fairly similar to the European Bison (Bison bosanus). The domestic Water Buffalo is (Bubalus bubalis) much closer to the domestic Cattle (Bos taurus). You don't need a bison to make mozzarella.
