@RoseAnvil2 How about cutting some truemans in half. Oh that's right you won't do it because they won't sponsor (pay for) it. Rubbish you've cut apart many high end boots without sponsorship and we both know ad revenue would far exceed any costs involved. It would be one of your most viewed videos. Many are doubtful of their build quality so why not do it. Who are you protecting? Trueman themselves? An employee whose a family member??? It's pretty obvious there's a conflict of interest here hence your excuses not to do it.
I'd like to know how you think these stack up against the Lems Boulder boot, in comfort, construction, durability, etc. They seem like similar purpose boots, and though I'm a huge fan of the Lems, but always looking for new things to try.
They used to have a minimalist line. I really think the Minimalist Country Squire Signature South 40 Birdshooter might be the best minimalist boot ever made.....
Or Thula Thula, both made on Munson last with 0 drop (10 mm drop upcharge option). I was hoping they would continue that line but it doesn't look like they will
@@ShaggyRodgers420 Yes, I don't remember exactly but I think it means quiet in one of the African languages (Zulu?) There was option without outsole for sneaking up on big game
I wore Russell Boots off and on for 40 years. Mostly the high country hunter. The first four or five pairs in the first 30 years were incredible. Built to my foot mold, extremely comfortable. High quality materials, and workmanship. Use nothing but Russell recommended cleaning and waterproofing products. Unfortunately, over the last 10 years, I would say that workmanship was top-notch, but the quality of the material went downhill rapidly. Stitching wore out rapidly, and the glue gave out within the first year. Customer service and repairs were less than stellar so I have switched back to Irish setter. Any comments from somebody associated with Russell would be appreciated.
Yesss!!! I've been hounding you for this, I've got the south 40 in pecos and the PH. The south 40 is the finest things I've ever put on my feet. Awesome that you're showcasing these.
For 10-12 years I have owned a custom pair of South 40 Birdshooter boots. These were measured and made to specifically fit me by Joe Gonyo. These are the most comfortable well made footwear I have ever owned right out of the box. Mine were built on the Munson last with an outsole that resembles what we now refer to as barefoot boots and have a lining that provides excellent support and snake bite resistance. Unfortunately many features no longer offered. I am not a big fan of unboxing videos, but do appreciate the positive press your video gives this excellent company. When will we see you get into the meat & potatoes of the construction of these boots?
ALRIGHT.... I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR A REVIEW OF THESE BOOTS FOR A WHILE. THANKS 😊... they are great boots. Waterproof... last forever.. comfortable... quality made made in the USA.
Is this the only pair of Russell’s you have or do you own others? Just curious about getting the south 40 or the Backcountry but I’m not sure if I want the heel or flat
Question and request. What did you do with your old WC Russell moccasins you showed in older video? When you cut pair, would you please cut stitches down to show construction vs cutting down the middle as usual
Finally! Every Mocktober I have been screaming Russell's, they are the only true mock still made how are they not on the month dedicated to them. Thank you for the explanation too.
I have a pair of Mountain PH boots, with the same type of fabric panels on the sides. I popped some of the stitching between the eyelet leather and the fabric around the ankle, and took advantage of needing to re-sew them anyway, by making them more snug. It went great, a LOT of hand sewing, but they fit me much better.
I have been waiting for this. They do have a version of the safari that has replaced the top three eyelets with speed hooks. But it comes with a Vibram 360 sole instead of the Lactae sole. All that aside I was thinking about getting the Backcountry which is a modern take on the hiker that Earl Shaffer wore on his hike of the application trail. But I desperately need a recovery boot. So the safari it is and maybe a pair of moccasins for around the house. Can't wait to see a full review on these.
This is a grail boot of mine…they are known for not only being traditional, but a Heritage boot that will last for generations if looked after. Great video…I'm jealous. Happy New Year 🎉. MikeR.
I've got two pairs. Both made 10 years ago. I drove up to Berlin, WI from Chicago and had my foot measured for a custom last by the owner at the time, Ralph Fabricius. I ordered a 7" double vamp with molded outsole all leather Thula Thula (similar to the current PH, but with a zero drop Vibram Newporter sole), all eyelets and no insulation. What I eventually got had speed hooks and insulation. When I contacted them to fix it, they suggested I could use it for a winter boot and offered to make me a pair for warmer weather for half price instead. So I ordered a 4" all leather Thula Thula single vamp with molded outsole. For $200! I almost never wear the original pair because they are too warm unless I'm spending hours outside in sub-freezing temps, but I wear the 4" whenever it's wet or cold. They are waterproof, comfortable, and tough. I love these boots.
I’ve been saving for a pair for ever and I’m sooo close!! Never have I been so sad to see a video about my favorite boot.. damn it!!😂 I really hope I can still get some …
I wear their back country for hiking/shooting from late fall to early spring and the safari for the hotter months here in the Sierra Nevadas. Then instead of normal slippers for the house I wear their moccasins.. my house is almost all tile.
I ordered a custom pair of Russell's. Love the build quality and the quality materials. The weathertuff leather is what I chose with vibram soles, and lace to toe. They are sweet boots.
I have a pair of Russel's and they're the highest quality boots I've ever own. The only problem is they don't fit despite having been the custom ordered set. Attempted to have them stretched out several times and their answer just ended up being "It was made to your measurements so there's nothing we can do." The coolest part was that I found a pair of non-custom made Russels at the local boot store that were identically sized to the pair I had at a 9.5. This is interesting because I normally wear a 11.5-12. I have no idea how they got the sizing on my boots so far off.
I ordered a pair of Russell's and used their "Find Your Size" scanning tool and I thought the boots fit perfectly. I'd recommend using it. It happened to be a 1/2 size down from my Red Wing size.
Wow! I have been thinking about asking you why you never did a video about Russell Mocassin boots and finally you have, I just figured they didn’t want there boots cut in half, maybe this decision was made by the new owners, I don’t own any of their boots but was thinking about it. I hope they don’t lose the quality they are known for since there have been changes made.
I have wanting and waiting for you to do Russell Moc Toe boots for a long time. I really like the look of their boots. I will drive down to the store and get a proper fitting. I live 3 hours from there, it will little road trip in February.. Look forward to cut apart video..Maybe you could do a pair of Rancourt’s to see if I got my money’s worth? I enjoy them and they are well built as well.. Thanks Weston and Happy New Year 🎉….
Gokey boots. If you don’t have a pair of boots that are made like this, buy some. I have two pair of Gokey boots that are handmade in Tipton MO and they are my go to boots over all my boots. Now seeing these I do believe the Gokey brand boots are a little better in their construction methods. You won’t be sorry for going Gokey!!!
I know it is a weird idea historically of boot origins, but I love the idea of a super comfy moccasin boot that's a Chelsea for maximum ease of use, and even zero drops
Gokey USA has the Chui Safari boot, The Premiere, Shadow Hunter, and Bison classic. Almost stitch for stich the same boots! canvas uppers, full leather lowers and triple vamp construction. MADE IN USA. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE review them!!
I love and hate this video. I love it because I have been wanting to see these cut in half. I hate it because I have been wanting to grab a pair of these and now it will be nearly impossible to get a pair after being featured here, lol.
I own 7 pairs of Russell boots. Including a pair of Joe's PH, which is very similar to what you purchased. They are the only boot maker on the planet that would produce a custom 11 1/2 A fitting for me. Excellent boots! PS: I prefer a fit that places my toes a bit closer to the toe of the boot in Russell boots.
I've had a pair of their Joe's PH boot's for probably 8-10 and the soles are now worn out and I no longer wear them but I did for years and they are so comfortable I really miss wearing them. When I purchase mine they were a little over $300 dollars. Shocked to see they are now over $650.
Quoddy Ring Boot. We need you to tell us what they’re really like before we speed $425 to buy a pair. A big challenge on these types of mocassins is that you can never go to a store and try on a pair or two in different sizes. And it’s a ton of cheddar to shell out for something that might not be quite right.
I've also been dying for you to do a video of Russell moccasins. But I am aware they are a fairly small company. I can't afford one of their products right now anyway😅
FWIW, Russell recommends I size down 1.5 sizes. I wear an 8.5D in Nick's, Russell's app says I need a 7D. I also wear a 7.5EEE in JKs. They are also &750 now and not much selection.

I just returned two pairs of Thursdays (my first pair was Wingtip, they fit perfect 1/2 size down, but I have E on Brannock and a high instep so the 1/2 size down Diplomat and Chukka just didn't fit instep or width). But, it allowed me to go to the Red Wing store and get a pair of 1907's instead at almost the same price but definitely much thicker leather and probably a lot more durability. (To be fair to Thursday, the regular 1/2 size down 877 and 875 do not fit instep or width at all. The 1907 without the insoles is pretty good and once I had the cork shaped, now it's a firm handshake with the insoles in.)
are there companies that still have a brannock? i also have weird feet i have size 14 with most brands but have crazy thin feet so i usually have the uppers touching and still loose so i have to come up with insole fillers (don't ask) but if he interested to see exactly what i should be looking to order
I placed an order for some Arrow Moccasins but the owner died some other companies make the same pattern one uses inferior leather and the other costs about a grand so I never pulled the trigger. But Kinfs Trail Leather makes a pretty good one for about $200
Looking at the weave construction of the fabric I would say that is heavy twill not canvas. Edit; Checked web site and they describe it as Scottish cotton twill
Canvas is just a heavy cotton cloth. Twill is the direction of the weave (as opposed to duck/square weave...drill is twill with alternating directions).

I wouldn’t mind something like the south 40’s they make but with a hybrid upper like the safaris. It’d make a real nice desert boot, I think, and it’d work well in Arizona
I have Russell’s all my life, I currently have three pair. Russells are kind of hit or miss on the quality and fit. When they are good they are really good. When they are not, they expensive junk. The last three pair that I have purchased I have had to return due to quality issues or poor fit.
Those are the best looking boots on you I've seen you review or whatever it is we are doing here. lol I was saving for another pair of Gorals.... hmmm.
Also. Having owned multiple boots with Lactae Heva soles they are the worst. They crumble, wear out and just seem to fall apart quickly. I’ve hated them on my Viberg slippers and Rancourts and will never buy a shoe with them again.
It looks like these need to be ordered directly from Russell Moccasin. Have people had satisfactory results using Russell’s online scanning app to measure their foot size. I ask because I’ve always worn a size 10W, but Russell’s app says to order a 9-9.5D because their sizes run big, and I’m just not sure whether to trust that.
I have skinny ankles just like you Weston so boots fit me in the same way.My question is do boot manufacturers change the size of the upper with different widths? it seems to me that it’s kind of a universal size for the upper and just the lower part is changed to accommodate different widths.
No, for width leather is cut bigger and trimmed after is lasted. I wouldn't be surprised if they used single cutting dies for multiple sizes let alone widths and ankle size.
These seem like the type of boot you and 8 of your friends could wear on a casual journey through bogs, mires and marshes, caves, over mountains and plains, on your way to destroy an evil artifact that’s sole purpose were to enslave the race of elves and men.
I'm selling a pair of Russells in size 9.5 in weathered oak if anyone is interested. They are practically brand new with some dark leather stains on them. Never worn out of the house. They are great boots, I just have other boots in my closet that get more action.

I'd like to see the Oneida Moccasin's cut in half. Super interesting with no real sole

Ruccell Mossakins 💚
These seem like the type of boot you and 8 of your friends could wear on a casual journey through bogs, mires and marshes, caves, over mountains and plains, on your way to destroy an evil artifact that’s sole purpose were to enslave the race of elves and men.

HELLLLLLLYEEEEEEAAAAAARUSSELLLLLLLLL!
Right on!
I'm selling a pair of Russells in size 9.5 in weathered oak if anyone is interested. They are practically brand new with some dark leather stains on them. Never worn out of the house. They are great boots, I just have other boots in my closet that get more action.
