Released in July 1989, the song quickly skyrocketed up the charts reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, holding the top spot for two weeks. "Black Velvet" was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021.

Holy crap, three of my fave songwriters and performers all together. So great to see Chris in a studio performing one of his own. And I think I should thank him for "Spark of Desire" being a huge catalyst for, um, most of my 16 year-old McLovin' at the time. Incredible songs.
