Serena has done a couple of covers extremely well. This version of Eyes of Stranger and her version of Racing in the Streets are both fantastic. I always like it when artists show their influences and act like 'music fans'.
@@KingKull1971 Of course, Marley and Tosh were the originators. The Clash didn't have the same impact or influence as the Police. They weren't in the same league.
@MrDuojet I disagree about the Clash. They're one of the biggest punk bands of all time. The Police were just pretending to be punks. Nothing wrong with it though.
❤ Canada...thank you for all your musical gems: Serena Ryder, Jann Arden, Luba, Gowan, Rush, The Box, Holly Cole...the list goes on. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for raising me 2 miles from the Ontario border and for teaching me to love all things Canadian. ❤
@@cbcmusicListen to you on 94.1 in Toronto! A nice mix of music that U.S. radio cannot touch. Also a big fan of Adrienne Arsenault from The National. She is a trusted voice and a warrior! Stay strong, Canada. You will remain sovereign. ❤
Thank you for keeping it close to the original. Some people destroy 80s music trying to be "creative" I think an 80s style sound is needing a major comeback
The first time I ever heard this song was on 14 CFUN, a radio station in Vancouver, Canada, and I lived in Washington state, but the station would come in on good nights, lol, and I loved this song the first time I heard it. This is an excellent cover, and I love the way Serena adds the vibrato on "stranger," towards the end.
Wow!! I wasn't sure how to expect this. I was thinking it was going to sound tinny and overproduced as it's made this decade, but wow, Serena and her band killed it! And the production is amazing. Almost old school record sounding!! Great job!!
CBC Music - it definitely has that vibe. Side note, I had no idea until recently that Bob Rock was in The Payolas, that guy is a national freakin treasure!
I love the original and it certainly didn’t need a remake but it could have been slaughtered so I won’t complain too much. I have the most profound memories connected to this song…bitter sweet for sure.
One of my favorite songs from the 80s...but man soo many to choose from in the era of the Clash, Police, U2, obscure like Payolas. Band was on point, singing was great, guitarist rhythm awesome but lead tones were a bit much. Pretty F’n stellar none the less.
I'm in the gym working bench press( former bodybuilder ) and this guy asks me if he can work in with me ... I'm benching heavy and he is impressed and asks me my name and so I ask his .. he says Bob rock ... I said you the guy who did ' eyes of a stranger " and how I dig his music and told him one of bodybuilders I trained just posed to it and won a title . Interaction I'll never forget ... Great music by talented man
I was looking for a cover of this song. Your so awesome!! I'd love to learn more a bout you and your band. It didnnot look like that voice was gonna comenoutta you... Impressive .also I like Asian bass players
She nailed it wasn't expecting that
As a major fan of the original (I’m old as dirt), I just have to say this is DOPE! 👏
Ditto
Every time I hear this song the original,it takes ME back in time to a great place.
Agree, am old as a tree and Serena rocks it
I was 7 when the original came out.
Yeah, I'm old dirt, too! 🔥
This is a true Canadian gem.
Absolute wonderful cover of a 80’s classic song by Serena . You nailed it Girl !!

Wow. Buy that sound engineer a drink, well done 👍🏻 bravo
Tight band and she’s strong 💪
The reggae in this is incredible. And it's hard to believe that this song is over 40 years old.
Excellent rendition
The success of The Police caused everyone to play infuse reggae into their sound back then - even Rush!
@MrDuojet the Clash were doing it before the Police, besides... Bob Marley and Peter Tosh were popular prior.

She knocked it out of the park. Five stars. Great cover.
Fantastic! What a version. One of my 80s favs

Best cover of this song I've ever heard. Fantastic.

Great version. Payolas should be flattered. It's a really good song!
Although I am 71 and feel like I am slowly dying, you make my heart feel young
She does an excellent job with the Payolas Song!!
The Payolas had some enigmatic songs. Loved this one. Never seems to get old.
That's why it won the Juno! Glad you liked it!
@@cbcmusic Yea can you get them to reunite and do a special on CBC.
Nika,
I first heard this in 1983 during Valley Girl movie and it has never gotten old. Thanks for your perspective.

Okay, she has fantastic taste to match her talent...!
This is a classic. Great job.
Great Serena !
Brilliant - captures the textured, brooding menacing nuances of the composition perfectly. Cudos to the band.

A solid cover of a great song!!! Great writer and production!
Love it! So many years later, my high schol band get recognised.
God I love this! One of my favorite 80's tunes.
Excellent!! Everyone excellent!
it never occurred to me until now how much of a reggae feel this song has. Killer rhythm.
Totally! Reggae by way of The Police's own reggae spin perhaps?
CBC Music - it definitely has that vibe. Side note, I had no idea until recently that Bob Rock was in The Payolas, that guy is a national freakin treasure!
I’m a simple man. Jumped in thinking of Queensrÿche’s EOAS. I’ve found another golden EOAS and a beautiful vocal in every sense.👌
Me too brother
Brava Serena! This is soul healing!!
