PLOT: Bearing a mysterious metal shackle on his wrist, an amnesiac gunslinger (Daniel Craig) wanders into a frontier town called Absolution. He quickly finds that strangers are unwelcome, and no one does anything without the approval of tyrannical Col. Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). But when Absolution faces a threat from beyond Earth, the stranger finds that he is its only hope of salvation. This is such an underrated film, should’ve gotten more praise for not copying any trend that was going on like nowadays

Feel like the start of the film was amazing but just started to fall apart and become generic as it went on. Still a pretty good movie, Daniel Craig is really good in it!.
Its based on comics, wish there was a trilogy.
I think people expected it to be bad because of the title and didn't watch it, but I myself found it to be a fantastic movie

You are so right. Saw this in the theater and had a blast. The audience liked it too. Lebowski is another example. The girl I took to that, said "Well That was a waste of time..." So I said, what do you mean? "Don't tell me you liked it?!" I said no... I Loved it! My brother in law, hated Buster Scruggs. Again, Cohen Bros. I think it's an underrated jewel of a tale. Check it out if you haven't.
Not to mention,sam rockwell, paul dano and walter goggins!

I am a big fan of Craig and I thought he did a great job in this movie. Don't know what the critics were expecting him to do (maybe a western-theme James Bond), but It's still one of my favorites.

I went to see it at the cinema in 2011, and I was alone in the theater. I had one of the best experiences of my life. The actors, soundtrack, direction, cinematography, special effects... Everything made it a masterpiece. An underrated film.

The movie wasn't successful because it was simultaneously both an idea before its time and an idea too late for its time. Worst of both Worlds.

Jon Favreau's only real mistake with this movie was the title. My wife refused to watch it because it "sounds dumb". I'm pretty sure that's why most other people didn't go see it either. Really too bad, it's very good.

Very good movie , there was a comic in the 1970’s called Weird Western Tales that had a story line like this . The comic also had The Lone Ranger using his silver bullets to kill werewolves.
I think if this movie have another title that will make more interesting than alien and cowboy

a very entertaining movie. I'm a Scifi fan and this didn't disappoint. Dan was good and really every actor did a great job keeping it moving along. Even Harry :)

Glad to see Dan in another film genre. He deserves it! The man paid his dues as Bond. He'd even make a great actor for Shakespeare's plays. Cut him loose and watch. He'll be up there with the greats. Even Good Queen Bess II will take notice.

I think Daniel Craig, Lance Henrikson and Harry Dean Stanton all possess some sort of genetic coding that made them look old even when they were young. They're all brilliant actors, and R.I.P. Harry! You were fantastic, an inspiration to all of us actors.

It's not a bad movie nor is it a good one. It had a really good concept and was fairly original and while it had top notch actors and action is was just a meh kind of movie. Fun to watch then immediately not talk about it as you left the theater. I think people were expecting a comedy but everyone played their roles straight and serious. One of those box office crushing ideas that just can't pull it all together by the end. Well worth watching.

defintitly a meh movie. I mean he has 3 guys with guns on him and he takes them out by himself? In Game of Thrones (the first seasons anyway) being out numbered by 3 armed swordsmen was enough to surrender

This was a great film, well written, perfectly acted, and most definitely an original idea for film, although hit on many times in comics and Sci fi books.
The fact it wasn't a box office smash doesn't mean anything lol. It was a western with aliens, not made for children, so the fan base isn't monstrous or main stream, although I think if people seem it, that would change minds. That and the commercials did it no justice, it pushed a western with cowboys, which is true, but left out many aspects that might have made the audience wider.
@@beentheredonethat5908 True about the box office smash. Doesn't need to be one to be a good movie although only making 10 million more than you spent is REALLY not good. and that's before advertising and distro. I think they lost 80 million. Ouch.
I remember the commercials leaving people scratching their heads. Do we like this or not? Maybe they though the star power would bring people in. Still a fun movie.
I enjoyed this film way more than Independence Day Resurgence, it just had a more interesting script and action sequences!
Well that's not setting the bar high at all...
I just enjoy movies for their entertainment value these days, rather than any supposedly 'deep meaning' or 'messages' they may have.

I forgot Mr. Baby Blues himself did this movie. Definitely didn’t understand why people didn’t think it was good as a 12yo. I should rewatch it one of these days.
I saw it in theaters when I was 21 and enjoyed it, then I forgot it existed until recently. I still like it.

I remember, when watching some movie, watching the trailer of this movie. It wasn’t the movie as a whole or the actors and the action and the drama that drew me in. It was AUDIOSLAVE!! Audioslave’s “Gasoline” that played in the trailer! It was a ROCKER!! (🤘🏾) That trailer to the movie Cowboys and Aliens, it introduced me to Audioslave, to Soundgarden, to the now-late-great Chris Cornell, and to Rage Against the Machine!! And I haven’t stopped listening to Gasoline whether or not I’m behind the wheel! 🚘 🎧 😊🤘🏾
RATM is/was my favorite band since their 1st album... it breaks my heart that Tommy (he's from my hometown... met him a few times) has gone from rage against the machine to rage FOR the machine...

I inadvertently deceived my sister, she thought we were going to watch the Planet of the Apes film and I revealed just before we got in the car that it was Cowboys and Aliens, I was 16 back then. 2011 was a great year, wish the world could go back to the way it was in some ways.

Great attention to the look. I'd love a film class on this film's photography. I think the problem with the new Dune is no one sweats. At least not outside the suit. That little glisten really defines people. Especially funky types.
That's kinda silly because the only to even SURVIVE on Arakis is to have the suit on you, if you remember in the camp with paul and his mother they were both sweating a lot, it wasn't until the used the suits thst they looked better
Movie doesn't cover it, but I'm pretty sure in the book there's something they rub on their skin to keep from sweating. The book hammers home the idea that even a drop of moisture is an extravagance. I bet the second movie talks about water discipline a lot more.

you can see him trying to settle his horse before pulling it out, editors mayve left out a shot that showed his horse freak out a little, either way, pretty fucking stupid

Yeah I did think that. Maybe they could have had the guy shoot at the same time the horse reared up because the sound of the shotgun startling it, to explain why he missed or something. That's what I would've done anyway.

Daniel Craig is the sexiest man alive! What a handsome fella and so lean and muscular. Incidentally, he is also a great actor. But as a female, to me that comes second. I just love watching him. He's such a nice guy too, in real life, humble not arrogant and with good manners. Sigh.
