    Hi everyone!! Today I share the importance of c-peptide testing and its relationship to Type 1 Diabetes. Many newly diagnosed diabetics will have this level tested at least once, if not more as insulin production decreases with beta-cell distraction. If you want to know more about the other important test for Type 1 Diabetics (antibodies) feel free to check out my video on Type 1 Diabetes autoantibodies.

    Great video,
    5 years ago I was diagnosed with ty2. and been giving medications, and year over year couldn't control the my blood sugar even with a very healthy LC diet. I visited many docs each one has gave a different medication and no one agreed to ask for c peptide test coz it's not important as they said. my condition kept going worse and worse the burning on my feet started SO i knew there is something wrong.
    my A1C is usually below 7.
    I found A new doctor, first thing he asked is c peptide test. SURPRISE mine was 0,877!!!!
    He said sorry to tell that but u should start the insulin right now. His treatment plan was to start with (Tresiba) Long acting beside the oral, and then use the other short acting insulin and reducing the oral one by one according to updated tests.
    I'm not sure if these symptoms burning feet will one day disappear or not.

      @MaddieNielsen  4 года назад

      Oh wow! Sounds like you have LADA or Type 1.5 Diabetes! Thank you for sharing your experiences. The burning in your feet sounds like the start of neuropathy which may reverse as you gain better control of blood sugar levels with insulin use! Keep in mind this is my best educated guess! Always consult your physician for medical advice as I am not a doctor! Thank you for watching my videos! :)

      I might start rapid insulin soon if it helps to reverse the neuropathy issue.

    I have been on IF/ Keto/ carnivore for over 18 months and because my A1C had been borderline 5.7-5.8 while on this diet, I was worried about being insulin resistant so I had a fasting C-peptide test done & to my surprise it came back 1.1 with a new A1C of 5.6. My endocrinologist said it was that low because of my diet and he wasn’t’ worried but I am worried that I might be LADA. Would a glucose tolerance test be advisable to be sure that my pancreas can make enough insulin when necessary?

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 года назад +1

      I am not a physician, but I would assume further testing such as a glucose tolerance test would be necessary to see how your pancreas is responding with insulin to a surge in glucose within the blood stream!! Good luck to you!!

      I am not a medical doctor and cannot diagnose any condition, but I highly recommend that you take your son in and see what they suggest. Based upon what I am seeing from c-peptide and A1c levels, these are key markers for Type 1 Diabetes which requires insulin dependency for life.

    Curveball question:
    My A1c is 'only' 5.4 despite good health, very LC, fit and slim.
    My CPeptide is very low normal.
    1. So I suspect some beta cells are gone, agreed?
    2. Best solution remains LCHF, agreed?
    Also, a very LC diet with some intermittent fasting will also keep the C peptide a bit lower than otherwise, agreed?
    Thank you

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 года назад +2

      Yes. You may have lost some beta cells. You could be in the very early stages of type 1 diabetes development or it could be LADA (LATENT AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE OF ADULTS). An A1c of 5.4 could be considered non-diabetic depending upon who you ask. I generally have read that non diabetics have A1c’s between 4.0-5.6 with many of them having A1c’s in the low 5 range. A low carb high fat diet would definitely keep your c-peptide levels lower as your body has to use less insulin to metabolize what little bit of carbohydrate you are consuming.
