About 20 years ago I bought a pair of Danner boots thinking I was stepping up my boot game. They would only last about 6 months of walking 8-12 hours a day. Finally stepped into a pair of Red Wings and that pair lasted me at least 8 years with one re-sole.

Guess it depends on the model. I have three pair of Acadias (two uninsulated, one insulated) that I have used on duty for 22 years. All three have been resoled, and my first pair has been resoled twice. That pair is 22 years old and even stood up to a month of motor officer training riding, dropping and picking up…MANY times…a 900 pound Harley. These things are an embarrassment.

I’ve been wearing Danner boots for around 20 years. My first pair was their Quarry, up to that point, they were the best boots I have ever worn. I then bought a pair of the Workman, they were better than the Quarry. I bought a pair of the Mountain Lights. I love them! I’ve since bought, RainForests insulated. Super Rainforests. Rainforest Heathman. Mountain Light Overton. Wolf Creek chukka. Power Foreman.Mountain 600. A few of the Danner military shoes for summer. I do have a pair of these boots in the video but in black. I was kinda surprised at how thin the leather is. However, they do feel pretty nice underfoot. Very comfortable. I only wear them to “Sunday Best” events like church and weddings.
I work in a high production shop and bring trucks in and out all day. A lot of the time 80 hours a week, in all kinds of weather. Mostly wet. My Super Rainforest are on their 3rd set of soles. My mountain lights are on their 4th. My Power Foreman on its 3rd set. I do a lot of walking back and forth, usually at least 7 miles a day. Danner’s have always kept my feet dry. Kept me going day after day without sore feet.

I bought a pair of Danner mountain hikers(currently available and in production) and I loved the initial look when they were crispy new, however, that all fell apart very quickly!! It started with a very strange problem that I’ve never experienced before in any boot or shoe, being that the leather at the top of the toes basically caved in and would not come back. Imagine on a steel toe boot, denting the steel toe, directly over your big toe, enough for it to just barely make contact with your toe, the entire time, not mentioning when you’re actually walking, because that’s where it got extremely painful. No matter what I did, I could not remove the dent. Happened to both boots at almost the same time! Never again, Danner!! Burned me for life!

Had to go into a Danner store in NC and they measured my feet and sent the measurements off to Danner who made me my tanker boots and shipped them to where I was stationed at the time, Ft. I’ve seen some comments saying like “well I’m not gonna try to rip my boots apart! I take care of them” but sometimes shit happens.
You might just trip and catch your heel on a grate in the ground, or a curb… you might have someone step on your heel and trip you up in public.
Once you have the weight of a whole person pulling against a small section of a boot… it doesn’t take that much force.
It looks like he’s really ripping and tearing at it, but he’s using his arms. Not his entire body weight and legs which are many times stronger.
Think about how easily you’ve accidentally smashed your toe just by walking slowly, or broken something by kicking it lightly on accident. Legs and body weight are crazy strong! It just takes a tiny mistake and your boots or shoes are ripped apart.
The likelihood goes up even faster when you’re off road, on hiking trails, the woods, workshops… etc.
It is an important demonstration. Because if a brand new boot can come apart with your hands it absolutely will not withstand a human falling forward full force pulling on the sole.

I know your channel leans into work boots, "heritage" style, and full-leather construction, but I'd be really curious to see you break down and review one of Danner's more flagship hiking boots, like the Mountain Light or Danner Light. They probably feature more synthetic/"technical" materials (e.g. Goretex, synthetic liners and shanks) than most of the heritage and PNW boots you feature on this channel, but they're also fully-recraftable, stitchdown construction boots made in the USA, and cost $400+. They definitely market how light they, which trends away from some of the 1"+ of full veg-tan-leather darlings of this channel. Do those models, even if evaluated differently than a full-leather logging boot, justify their cost?
Or if would be interesting to see how their top-end work boots (Quarry, Super Rainforest) stack up against the competition.

Great video as always. You should do a series or comparison between Aussie workboots this summer. Brands like Blundstone, Redback, Rossi, and Mongrel

Interesting timing. I saw a Facebook ad for these (probably because I watch this channel) and I clicked through out of curiosity. The low-ish price caught me off guard. Then I saw that they were imported, had synthetic materials, leather with no tannery statement, and were openly described as "non-rebuildable." That was all I needed to know these weren't necessarily quality. I'd rather pay another $100-200 for a boot that lasts.

I'll never buy danners again, I had a pair that I thought was going to send me to the hospital, my achilles area was so swollen from the hard corner at the top of the boot. I literally went back to my year old boots from walmart and was so much better off it was insane.

Im really glad i didnt buy these now. I had looked at the black leather version but didnt buy them because i wanted a 360 degree sew for easier self resoles. I feel like the premium leather label was probably more for the black and brown ones that are a grain leather.

I'd be willing to bet their other boots are crap for the price too. FYI, Canada West makes the uppers for Danner's dedicated work boots. Canada West makes good boots for the money, but the Danner's cost more than twice as much as equivalent Canada West models!

That is VERY sad. I had a set of danner moc toe bullruns for about a year. They were a little big on me, and somehow I wore a hole through the leather on the top, where my toes are. Same spot on both boots. But they were comfortable, for the most part. The belt and wallet I got from them are top tier though

2 Pairs of Ft Lewis boots, 1 pair of Recon boots and 1 pair of Arcadia boots. All these boots work well for me for the cost. I maintain the uppers and resole as needed. I understand the gripe over the Jack II, they are of a lower quality. Frye boot company has gone down this road as many other big name makers...sad really.

I have very distinct features naturally (my profile photo is over 10 years old at this point): big brows, full lips, round face. Periodically as these things come “in and out”, I suddenly get compliments on them or suggestions on how to change them. I wasn’t going to comment actually until you mentioned the old standards that were more about bearing and gracefullness-THOSE, I have (former ballet dancer), and I actually find that is the “je ne sais quois” that gives me the endless compliments, far more than my supposed beauty. If I walk into a room with good posture, people pay attention. If I don’t, no one notices. I don’t know that these things translate well over film however (much like Nureyev’s supposed stage presence does not transfer over film), and I wonder how much that has to do with the sudden micro focus on body parts…
