Great Content, Thank You Have you ever cut in half a Danner Quarry? I bought a pair 6 years ago before I subscribed to your channel, the Quarry used to be my favorite boot until I became "educated"! Now I want a pair of Whites Boots! Seriously though, it would be interesting to see how the Danner Quarry stacks-up/compares to all the other boots you've reviewed. BTW, "reviewed" is perhaps not an accurate description of what you do, Analyze/Document would be more accurate. Thank You Again 👍😉
@@hkguitar1984 I love my danner quarry pair they seem well built to me and very comfortable at least for me I’ve been trying to figure out what type of leather they use but seems good enough. I’ve had my Elk Hunters for about 4 years, I’ve largely been very happy with them. Recently did a hard week of grouse hunting in northern Maine, really put em through the wringer, did get my feet wet once but that’s the worst I’ve gotten all the years I’ve used them for hiking and hunting. Not crazy about the outsole but I can just get that replaced when it wears out.
DANNER USA are my favorite boots. I own several pairs in various models and they work best for me for comfort and durability. I have the other US heritage boots (Whites, Red Wing, Thorogood, Chippewa, Yuketen, etc.) but I always find myself going back to my Danners.
Got anything from Danner with good flexibility? Need a good pair of hiking boots for early season hunting. Waterproof but light and flexible! Appreciate any insight
@@VigAdventures The Danner Mountain Light II is a really durable and lightweight hiking boot. The only thing is the rear ankle area takes some time for the leather to soften-up and become flexible. You could work that area with a baseball bat if you need to speed-up the break-in process.
I think you kinda mentioned something, but didn't realize the full implication of what you said... By using the same construction from the insole to the outsole they are consistent across all these boots (with the one exception being the outsole in this case). From a customer standpoint this is a good thing. If I've tried one pair of their boots and liked them I would be very likely to buy a second pair since I know they are likely to feel the same as the first. I wonder how many people buy multiple pairs of boots from one company because of the consistency in the product design. (I know I'm one of those people with multiple Grant Stone and Jim Green boots because I like the feel and construction of them...)

I would love to see a series cutting into crispi, lowa, and zamberlines. My Cripi level 5 flex GTX boots are the best most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn and I have no idea how.
4:25 They have unlined boots brotherman. You just have to check the box that says "unlined" in the filter section on their website. They don't have many options that are unlined, but there are at least a few. I just checked the other day.
Looks like it's either the Bull Run (no lining, wedge outsole), Bull Run Moc Toe (no lining, wedge) or the Flashpoint II (no lining, lugged fire fighting) or the Moumtain Trail (leather lined, lugged outsole, EE wide ONLY!).
Have owned a dozen+ Danner Acadia & Ft. Lewis boots, when broken in they are Awesome! Bought the Elk Hunters years ago...I love em!! My all time favorite hikers are Asolo, partial to the older models.
The danner mountain rail is leather lined. It’s shown in your piece on it. I think it’s the only one that is, but it is. That alone makes it their most heritage boot.
I have that same Danner outsole in a 800 insulated boot. They have been my cold weather hunting boot for over 30 years. Yes, the same pair. They are scuffed and cut but are still perfectly fine.
Tell you what. I replaced the sole pretty quickly for a more traditional lug, but I have put these boots through abuse and they've survived well. Hunted in frost and in mountains. They're stained with blood now. Boots still warm and strong 4 years later.
My early 1980's Elk Hunters were beautifully leather-lined. Back then, as I recall, Danners all were made with dark brown "vegetable-tanned" leather, nice and soft compared with the hard af rough-out "chrome-tanned" leathers that Euro boots were made from, if you were shopping for a hiking boot. The leather lining of my Elk Hunters wore out pretty quick at the heel, and Danner doesn't fix leather lining in their recrafting.
I'd be interested to see you review the Ft. Lewis Danners. No way I'm sending you mine though. I bought them in the mid-80's while on active duty in the Army. They are still great, within their category, imho. Cool video series, Thanks for doing these. I bought a pair of Jim Green barefoot African Ranger boots and love 'em.
As a hunter - the Elk hunter with 400 Thinsulate and the 500T Trophy are important in the higher cold comfort.. I do NOT wear hunting boots for style. I DO NOT roll up my pants leg for style. I need a boot that will keep my feet warm - not sweat - and dry without snow and slush pouring over the top. $350 - 470 is a lot of money. I am not made of money. But I do not want to freeze.
I wear my Georgia giant 6” work boots for hunting they’re unlined and last elk season in eastern Oregon temps hit below 0 F my feet were fine and the boots did great
I've been using a Danner Ft. Lewis gortex lined 10" boot since the 80's. Had them resoled once before I got off active duty in the 90's. Best boot I ever owned. Chippewas would be a good one to do.
Danner calls this the “bob” outsole. It’s one of the reasons I bought the Elk Hunters. I have three pairs of Danner Canadians which are insulated for winter use. It’s a VERY comfortable outsole and does a great job of shedding mud, rocks and snow. The other big reason hunters like this outsole is that it’s quiet. You can walk through the woods without creating as much noise. However it’s not the best outsole for superior traction so beware if you are in mountainous terrain. They’re best suited for field use and relatively flat woods. Elk hunters are very narrow at the toe. I wear ultra thin socks with these and love them that way as I bought them for summer use. If they are as good as the Canadians I will be happy for a decade or more.
I love the look of danner's lace to toe style. Have a pair of their regular work boots with the narrow last and they fit great! These may be my next dailies I splurge on. Any chance you'll be able to look at the Thursday commanders? They have the same lace to toe style. I know they wouldn't be the same purpose built boot, but would love to see how they compare fit wise
Please do the DANNER PRONGHORN BOOT I have very different feet and the Danner has been my favorite of all time because I have flat feet and hammer toes surgery on one side my knuckles are fused and the other side still has hammer toes these boot have been the only one to feel comfort in the toe box and just about all around.
Great video, these look similar to my Italian army paratrooper boots from the 90s (you should get a hold of them, really nice military boots) with the same design of lacing all the way to the front of the toe. But the Italian paratroop boot have a leather lining and a thick slab of leather midsole.
I've been considering picking the Elk Hunter up so glad to see the vid. I'd like to see some non GTX in the category like the White's Tracker, Hiker. Also their Grande Ronde series vs Schee's mountain hunting boots, Kennetreck, Crispi
That elk hunter with a thick insole is the best boot I have. I've put hard miles and hard days on them. The sole is weird on pavement but unbeatable in the hills
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 I have a pair of USA made Danner boots, 10" height. Extreme durability inside and out. All seasons. The best I've ever had. Period. Inporting fees are crazy high, hard to justify the expense now.
Love Danner boots. Their Tachyon's are my favorite regular duty boot. Don't buy Garmont. I had two different pair mold up on me after a few months in korea. I dried them out every night and everything.
I'm on my second pair of the Crater Rims. I've worn them every day for almost 3-years. First pair had a about 2.5 million steps. The Vibram Bifida sole are what makes them great. I also had that sole on a pair of Northlake boots in the 90's. These look really good, but no way I'd ever get them. I wanted to get a pair of the Mountain Lights a few years ago. I'm no longer interested in that boot other for looks, and it's not a good enough reason at all to get them. The Desert Acadia is another great boot.
Interesting video indeed. I own a pair of Redhead hunting boots (from 2006) that look very similar to these. I wonder if they come from the same manufacturer. They are decent boots and still functional, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
in the hiking series definately need to do the other big brands that you'd typically find a REI or similar stores: Lowa, Zamberlan, Hangwag, Asolo, Scarpa, La Sportiva, etc..... would be interesting to compare these to the Viberg Hiker and Pachena boots.
Have you ever talked about or reviewed leather treatments? Curious if you have any recommendations for boots like the Danner Elk Hunter and others. I really like Huberd's Shoe Grease, but am not sure if I am helping or hurting the leather my boots are made of...
Great Review. I would like to see some reviews on Crispi Boots, particularly the Crispi Nevada, which I believe is one of their most popular boots. I have a couple pairs of Crispi’s one of them being the Nevada’s as well as various Danner boots so I enjoyed the review on the Danner’s. Some day perhaps I’ll spring for a pair of PNW boots, but I’m curious how modern high end hunting boots are constructed when compared to heritage boots. Especially when you’re paying north of $400 to $500 for a pair.
The big pro for having essentially the same construction is able to buy more material in bulk, skill of employees can be better focused on doing basically the same thing for each style
Yup, smart business model. And it turns it to be a pretty versatile all around midsole design too, the product doesn't really suffer for the decision(just may not be everyone's preference).
Fair enough to Danner for using the same formula for all of them, it's a pretty good one, can't blame them. They miss out on some customers, but focus on a core design that has versatility and wide appeal.
I do agree danner can be a bit overpriced for the material they use but if you live near the portland, OR store they have really good customer service. I took in my moc toe boots cause the stitching around the toe was coming apart, they said they could fix it but also noticed some other problems and told me they cant put in a toe cap to prevent the leather with wearing out, replace the eyelids cause my laces were getting shredded, gave me new laces, put some glue the the sole cause it was coming apart a little bit. I was priced $30 just for the stitching but when i went to pick it up they said it was free. Right now im rocking some JK OT boots but always have some danners as my relief pair of boots until I break inmy JK's
Maybe you should check out the Danner Sierra ? Because it has those OD green nylon or canvas side panels, I'm assuming that means it doesn't have this sneaker fabric type liner, and it just may have a leather counter cover. Having a leather counter cover I think would be the thing that sets one apart from the other.
Soooo...... I now take your opinion into consideration when buying boots , what can I do to get your thoughts on motoshoes/boots . For example, I really liked my REAX Fulton's and I'm interested in the indie ridge brand.
If your hunting involves a lot of standing around in cold and/or wet conditions, then the Gore-Tex liner may be great. Personally, I do a lot of vigorous hiking and my feet sweat. Not a good combination for me. Gore-tex is a big exaggeration of benefits and it ups the price of the product considerably. It's waterproof OR breathable, not both at the same time. I'd rather have leather or some other natural fiber touching my socks, not a synthetic liner. So, far, it looks like Danner is not the boot company for me, but maybe that leather-lined Danner version (if it exists) will get some air play eventually. Thanks for your review!
Apples and oranges because it’s been close to two decades now but had a pair of danner elk hunters with “air Bob” soles, wore the soles out in one tend day Colorado elk hunt. Last danners I’ve ever bought. Been wearing old Wesco lace to toes ever since. Ten times the boots for hunting those danners were. Course they are a couple decades old now as well so no idea what type of quality they are now if new.
I have a pair of Danner Desert Acadia and occasionally the liner will bunch up directly behind my heel and within a very short amount of time I have a hole in my heel. Very well made, rugged and comfortable but that lining is a pain in the ass. And it stinks after a long time! I wish they had leather behind the heel.
The mountain series are probably their best looking boots. A lot of them have such weird panels all over and it takes away from a more simple heritage look.
I absolutely LOVEEEEE the way they look... But i have super wide feet... Id do anything to find a super wide boot.. with full lace down and look like this boot... Im in love with this boot.. but. You say its akinny.. which is opposite of what i have to have
Great content Weston! Found pair of boots that I would like to buy but they have EVA outsoles. What are pros n cons of EVA soles versus rubber? Thanks!
I honestly like my danner USA boots more then my red wing or Chippewa boots I’d like to see you cut up a rain forest or quarry I own both I’ve had the Rain forest for 4 years now I wear them every other day I’m a mechanic so I’m on concrete blacktop climbing in and out of vehicles over lift arms and welding with occasionally slag dropping onto them and they’re holding strong
The lace to toe design is a lot more like the Danner Light (not Mtn Light) or Explorer. I like the Danner Light II and Explorer a lot more than the Mountain Light boots. The Explorer’s basically a 6 inch Rain Forest boot.
I've got the Danner Canadian boots with that sole. It can get clogged but it's kind of rare. I've had them since about 2008, I think. It seems like the Thinsulate isn't as warm as when I first got them; is that possible?
I guess I'm more curious how this one is different than the Trophy one since most of those other ones look like not quite what I'd want and for more money.
You should compare Danners side by side with Alico Guide boots. They are built like the old 1930s mountaineering boots. Make Nicks and all those PNW boots look light duty.
Have you done a video on danner crafters? Thats the only pair of danner boots i have any experience with, but they are probably the best work boots ive worn. Enough to be on my 3rd pair. Are they really as good as i think they are? or am i just dumb lol

Having a leather counter cover I think would be the thing that sets one apart from the other.
No cut centered score today?
Can you please dissect the Diadora MI sneakers? They're like AF1s but with a full grain upper, I'm really interested what you'd think of the quality
Soooo...... I now take your opinion into consideration when buying boots , what can I do to get your thoughts on motoshoes/boots . For example, I really liked my REAX Fulton's and I'm interested in the indie ridge brand.
Please do the Georgia Boot loggers 👍
Danner Quarry? Wear them daily and aside from the same fabric liner (gore-tex boot) I think it combines the best of all the Danner features.
Would love to see the Danner Explorer. It's also 650 last, full grain leather. It's a bit more expensive, but has been around for a long time
you guys forgot the center cut score... I would give you "7"
as someone with toe problems and a tendency to have heel slippage in boots i actually find lace to toe much more comfortable.
Hunting boots are simply a marketing term. There is nothing in this segment that isn't done better with conventional high end hiking boots.
Would love other hunting boot reviews!!
Honestly I’ve been wearing twisted x boots for years and I’d kill for a video on their work/hiking boot
Been waiting for some more hunting boots. I have a pair of kenetreks that I’d love to see split open.
8:50 you can see the side of his foot bulging. They are narrow for sure. I have square Frankenstein feet. I know that bulge well.
would love to see a video on berry amendment boots, considering they have to be 100% made in the US as well
Asolo 520 would be my request for a deeper look on the hiking boot side of things.
The mountain series are probably their best looking boots. A lot of them have such weird panels all over and it takes away from a more simple heritage look.
It would be cool to see you do limmer boots out of New Hampshire, they are a pretty popular hiker especially in that area.
Maybe check out the Danner 453. They seem to be a good mix of work & hike construction.😊
I absolutely LOVEEEEE the way they look... But i have super wide feet... Id do anything to find a super wide boot.. with full lace down and look like this boot... Im in love with this boot.. but.
You say its akinny.. which is opposite of what i have to have
I wish there was STILL Raichle boots...
These served me well at about 20 years.
DO THE DANNER LIGHT II. I've been waiting for that video since you had just a few thousand subs
Great content Weston! Found pair of boots that I would like to buy but they have EVA outsoles. What are pros n cons of EVA soles versus rubber? Thanks!
I would be interested is seeing the kuiu/ scarpa hunting boot collab.
Why didnt you do danner Arcadia boots I asked for about 5 years ago????
I honestly like my danner USA boots more then my red wing or Chippewa boots I’d like to see you cut up a rain forest or quarry I own both I’ve had the Rain forest for 4 years now I wear them every other day I’m a mechanic so I’m on concrete blacktop climbing in and out of vehicles over lift arms and welding with occasionally slag dropping onto them and they’re holding strong
After this video, I would be interested in the Irish Setter Elk Tracker from Red Wing.
Can you do a review on the Crispi Anchor Point boots?
I guess I'm more curious how this one is different than the Trophy one since most of those other ones look like not quite what I'd want and for more money.
Not having insoles is not that bad, in most of my shoes/boots I end up putting skateboard insoles anyways, they are great for comfort and impact.
I like to listen to guy this as I fall asleep.
interesting boot, but I max out the scales for foot width so I don't see these in my future. they are the most appealing in the line up so far.
I wonder if the "snake" boots, or the "Canadian" are any different. Also why is the Thorofare so much more expensive?
WHERE IS THE CENTER CUT LINE SCORE?
Can you review the Danner Pronghorns?
No cut rating? From the angles we're given I would give it a solid 7.7 - 7.8.
I have a pair and love them
Any thoughts on Dayton boots? I think they went through a name change and are called Wohlford now
Looks similar to my USMC issued Danner “Rat” boots. Would be an interesting story how the Marines chose Danner.
Id like Royer boot review !!!
Please do Drew’s 10 inch logger boots they are a cheaper alternative to the traditional PNW brands
Try Altberg UK!❤
No centered cut score?!
Dear Rose Anvil, please make quality leather suspenders with the logo on the inside. (Attempt number #6)
