Completely. If you are getting into pool. Watch Efren. He made such a statement in the game and set such a trend. Always and forever he will be the goat. If you don't respect him. You don't respect pool.
He is the goat and plays well because he actually play different discipline 1 pocket 9, 10, 15, carom and even english snooker. His really a genius born once in a lifetime and real national treasure. I hope someone can make a movie of his life. National treasure. 🥰🇵🇭
Thanks Karl! Actually Efren didn’t respond “yes” that he’s the goat, more of a language barrier there, but that was really nice of you to interview the maestro. Nice quality video as well 👍
Karl, next time you get to talk to him, ask him to tell you the story when he played and won the Red's Open 9-ball tournament here, in Houston, TX. I graduated high school in '85 and got to see him play, unaware that he would become the world's greatest pool player. Back then he was using the name Cesar Morales, according to the story, because word was going around of a Filipino guy named Efren being so good that no one would play him. So he used his friend's name to play (and destroy everyone) in the tournament, lol.
It's true as he use used his friends name as an alias, but the guy he played in the final of the 9Ball tournament at Red's was Billy Johnson, who was using the alias, "Wade Crane" 🤣
To add: Efren got the name Cesar Morales from his friend who was the original owner of the $10 pool cue. Since Efren didn't have a pool cue going to America his friend Cesar Morales gave him that $10 pool cue which Efren used in tournaments.
On min 5:00, i think what he was trying to say is, there was a time when nobody wanted to play regular pool against him, so he played carom for 6 years and be great at it as well, GOAT😂
This is true, I think he said from 1976 to 1982 he stopped playing pool and was barred from playing in tournaments. Nobody would play money games against him even if he gave them ridiculous spot. so he decided to stop and played Carom. He got so good at it too and no one would play him there too. So he came back to pool after 3 years i think 🤣
Some may say Earl Strickland in his prime was better but no one can deny that Efren Reyes is the most creative pool player of all time. He comes up with shots that no one else sees.
Great interview and video Karl and how insanely lucky we are as pool players and fans of this timeless sport, to still be blessed to have him around and still be such a huge part of Pool. I really hope that Matchroom can make the Reyes Cup happen and get everything sorted, agreed and be able to have the 1st event while we are blessed to still have him with us, so we can all honour him and he be able to enjoy it 😎👍
Efren said in another interview that he played the best pool of his life before he quit pool for 6 years early in his career in the Philippines because nobody would play him. Then he became a carom billiards champion as he refers to here. When nobody would play him carom billiards anymore he went back to pool then came to the USA for the first time.
They said there's a billiards pool company in europe named to his filipino Alias "BATA". And do you all think it's about time to make a "REYES CUP" for the goat's tribute?
Absolutely!!! Not agreeing with some of the current commentators of pool saying that Shane Van Boening is the GOAT!!! Sorry, I can't agree, though SVB has been amazing for the past 20 years. But, imho, Efren "The Magician" Reyes is the greatest poll player to ever chalk a pool cue. The 🐐
OMG hahahahaha i remeber that COLOR OF MONEY GAME he had with Strickland, hahahaha Earl almost gone crazy at the finish when he lost to Efren very closely by comming from behind win by Efren 120-117. HAHAHAHA I saw the Reaction of Earl's face after the game, you couldnt even paint his face after leading 17rack 104-87, then Efren had a Rally to beat Earl. Hahahaha but that was too horible for Earl, because that was a WINNER TAKES ALL 100k USD. So since Earl loses, he went home literally empty handed. Unless the organizers or Efren himself at least gave him some few bucks for his plane fare. But thats something i dont know for sure. But fpr me that Game is the Best 9ball game of alltime!
Yea saw that game was held in hongkong and it was nerve-wracking match between the two with heads being heated up from middle to end game.. earl still a good sport and he was shocked he lost that game where he leads comfortably only to lose in the end… what a great battle of minds and steel of nerves
Just for anyone unsure what he means by Carom, @4:10 he is talking abut 3-cushion billiards where you must contact one ball and any three rails and then contact the other ball. A point is scored for each successful attempt and they play to like 40. The tables are large - usually 10 feet - and have no pockets.
Karl let me put this to you and hopefully you relay this to Matchroom. I hope you guys would come up with “The Reyes cup”. It would be Asia vs the world. Similar to the mosconi cup. It will be a spectacle for sure.
The one efren vs sigel i saw, efren whooped sigel. Now efren’s saying mike sigel is the best he’s ever seen. Just shows you what you dont know and you can’t deduce from one match.
When he says he's the greatest he's not bragging. He's just stating a fact. Even watching him pull the balls out of the pockets seems somehow more natural to him than others. If I were SVB I'd be happy he mentioned me.
Lol that was funny Karl start the video saying to efren. Efren Reyes the greatest pool player of all time efren looks at him and has no idea what he said and said yes I thought that was funny but I do agree efren is the best all around pool players 🐐.
Jose Parica claims that Efren's backers would find out when Jose went on an alcohol bender and would only approach him at that time to play Efren. Jose claims that Efren wouldn't play him otherwise. It would be interesting to hear Efren's take on that story. Parica was certainly around the Philippines and probably the top player at the time Efren claims nobody would play him anymore.
With all due respect to my IDOL and the BEST OF ALLTIME EFREN. I beg to dissagree that SVB is copying Mike Sigel's Break. Because you cannot copy and Employ the same breaks and tactics from a player from a different generation who used DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT in their era. In MIKE SIGEL's era they were using the TRADITIONAL TABLE CLOTH which used to be signifficantly SLOWER than the modern table cloths that the modern players are using now.
I’m just saying, he isn’t the greatest of all time but was beat by one of the greatest of all time, Vernon “Burnie” Elliot. If you say Reyes is the greatest, then wouldn’t it make sense that the one who beat him is greater..? 😎
so not a single modern pool player/fan has ever seen Efren's prime. Talking about the period before he quit pool for 6 years coz no one wanted to play him. No pool player on earth is comparable to him, he's the undisputed GOAT and deserves to be.
Me too i love ROTATION GAME. For me i do believe that it should be the staple pool game. If i become a Multi Billionare person, i would sponsor a World Rotation Pool Tournament sanctioning all the best Pool Players in the world!
The legend himself. The GOAT. So humble and skillful.Watching him since i was a Kid, he got me to up my level in pool. We will never see another like him in our lifetime. Much love and Greetings from Guyana.
Love you for this, Karl. Always love your commentating! Just a tip, though, you won’t get much of what’s in Efren’s heart if you let him have it his way in speaking in English. A translator for him is much ideal. That way, everyone in the pool community including English-speaking fans gets the most out of his genius. Thanks and much respect
Agree! If you speak Filipino you can actually sense that he thinks of his responses in Filipino then he tries to translate things literally (as best as he can) in English. Humble as he is I don't think he even likes acknowledging that he's the GOAT but just agrees to get the conversation by Still an awesome interview nonetheless!
when you have influenced a lot of people to love the game of pool and countless that followed his footsteps... then you can start to see the persons legacy and greatness. You are truly our G-O-A-T Efren.
Thank you for this Karl! And thank you Efren for all that you've done to change what we thought we knew and how you helped grow this game into the sport we all know and love today!
He's so humble and an absolute beast in pool. 80's babies have seen some of the best, not all, but some of the best athletes to play many sports. Tiger, Tyson, Jordan, Kobe, Bonds, Mcguire list could go on and on.
The man who got me into this beautiful game. The undisputed GOAT.
Same
Got me into it as well. He's one of the GOATs of any game worldwide.
Completely. If you are getting into pool. Watch Efren. He made such a statement in the game and set such a trend. Always and forever he will be the goat. If you don't respect him. You don't respect pool.
Same here
This man changed the game of pool single handedly. He is the Einstein of pool
Fantastic interview Karl. He's still so humble 🇵🇭
He sure is 😄
He is the goat and plays well because he actually play different discipline 1 pocket 9, 10, 15, carom and even english snooker. His really a genius born once in a lifetime and real national treasure. I hope someone can make a movie of his life. National treasure. 🥰🇵🇭

but then he was exposed when he signed an autograph to fan, he signed "Efren Reyes" 😂 , hope to see someday a movie about efren
Yes that is true Cezar Morales is the alyas or pen name Efren use just hide his talent and get somebody to play billiards with him :)
To add: Efren got the name Cesar Morales from his friend who was the original owner of the $10 pool cue. Since Efren didn't have a pool cue going to America his friend Cesar Morales gave him that $10 pool cue which Efren used in tournaments.

Strickland vs bata reyes
The famous z shot thats the real goat he applied the trick in the crucial game my god that insane.
Rotation is the key!
yes meanwhile the world play 9 ball and say 10 ball is much harder. They play 15 ball all their life
Great interview and video Karl and how insanely lucky we are as pool players and fans of this timeless sport, to still be blessed to have him around and still be such a huge part of Pool.

I second the REYES CUP. It's about time. The legend is not getting any younger
lez go
Yes for Reyes Cup! Asia vs. Europe vs. U.S ;D
Its about time. Our Man should be tributed a reyes cup!
Great content Karl 💪👏 Thank you for a great interview with the Goat🇵🇭
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. Waiting for the GOAT's what's in the bag. Thanks Karl
Such an inspiration to us all!
Someone needs to get him on a livestream with a proper translator where we can ask him questions.
Efren said in another interview that he played the best pool of his life before he quit pool for 6 years early in his career in the Philippines because nobody would play him. Then he became a carom billiards champion as he refers to here. When nobody would play him carom billiards anymore he went back to pool then came to the USA for the first time.
Sad to hear that the Magic is Gone,
But Always Glad to Hear that he's the Goat in Pool.
Legendary interview.
Keep the great content coming Karl.
Thanks 😊
Thanks Karl for having the GOAT in your vlog!! More power 🥂
i'm not good by any means but this is the guy that got me back into playing again .he is the man !!
Thank you for doing that interview. It’s an important slice of history. Efren is an inspiration for all of us.
Bester Spieler aller Zeiten! Keine Jumpshots sondern alles ehrlich über Vorbande. 💪👍🥳
Living LEGEND! It will be a sad day in our sport when this man is nog longer around..
They said there's a billiards pool company in europe named to his filipino Alias "BATA". And do you all think it's about time to make a "REYES CUP" for the goat's tribute?
I waited so long for this. Thank you, brother!
Glad you enjoyed it! 👊

the knowledge and tactics are still fresh, only the physical aged

filipino rotation called 61 by filipinos is different than the rotarion 14.1
Karl let me put this to you and hopefully you relay this to Matchroom.

@@KarlBoyesPoolLife wait what?! It’s happening ain’t it Karl?!
THE GOAT EFREN MAGICIAN REYES 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭👏👏
He soooo smooth~ might as well be butter reyes~
Brilliant player and more brilliant human being.
Nice. Matchroom/DAZN should do a 30 min documentary on high profile players.
his english is pretty good, I gotta find a way to meet the goat
Efren probably didnt understand the word street slang of goat as he just said yes in a haste after you asked him if he’s the goat.
The GOAT!!!!!!!!! The Greatest of all time!
he gave me a game of chess in cardiff 1999 awesome guy
Waaw perfect video with perfect player 🔥🔥💣💣🔥🎱🎱

Underrated video

My friend scott made Efren a ring out of the 13ball for his uncles pool hall, when he came to SC
They played one pocket together
Lol that was funny Karl start the video saying to efren. Efren Reyes the greatest pool player of all time efren looks at him and has no idea what he said and said yes I thought that was funny but I do agree efren is the best all around pool players 🐐.
Haha true hahaha

Earl Strickland is the greatest easily.
