@ yes after much time I’ve finally got my eco system working perfect. My only regret is I didn’t know about you when I first started my pond. I wouldn’t have had all the issues I had. I just hope others find you. My opinion you are the ABSOLUTE best!
I've just made my Aquascape pond from the remains of my previous pond. My previous pond and shallow bog were ruined by plants I could not control. The irises spread rapidly all over the bog. I could pull them out at first but it became increasingly difficult to do so because their roots actually grew through the liner. I ended up having to hire a mini-excavator to pull the whole bog out. The pond was ruined by bacopa. It just grew like crazy! I kept pully out handfuls but, a week or so later, it was all back with avengeance! Can you please make a video (or even just a post) recommending some deep marginals (i.e. planted just under 30cm deep) that aren't so invasive and aggressive? I'm in Adelaide so have a similar climate to you.)
I don’t plant many plants in the bog. I do like bacopa though. It’s vigorous in growth and shallow roots. I never use any deep rooting plants in the bog. I’m pretty sure I have a bog plants video. But I’ll mention somethings I use in a few weeks. I’m putting together a video on my latest bog.
@@Ozponds, yeah, I don't have a bog in my new Aquascape pond. I was looking for plants to go on the plant shelf of the pond itself (about 30cm deep). I'm thinking, maybe, Rotala, Water Ribbons, Ribbon Weed, Upright Water Milfoil, and Ludwigia. 🙂

I have it in a 7.5ltr fabric pot with soil and aquatic mix topped with gravel. Will the fact that the lily is sitting quite shallow be detrimental to its growth??
I’ve set up a patio micro-pond (in hopes it inspires a larger pond in the future). I’m currently experimenting with various plants from my aquarium. I would like to add a small water lily such as the Lil Sue. How much soil would you put in a small pot for a smaller species water lily?
Greetings, I have a white-marble basin that is quite large and I was thinking if I can plant anything in it, yet I would like the water to remain clear
You can but remember if you want to keep it natural you will have biofilms and broken down plant material (mulm) inside the basin. Adding scavengers like shrimp and snails can help.

I'm planning on back filling a small pond with gravel to a depth of only a couple of inches for child safety. I had the idea of housing a small pump in a concealed upturned, holed bucket to power a small waterfall and to plant in the shallow water/gravel. Have you any thoughts or tips on how to get the best from this please, or could you suggest a better solution?

We have just built a large pond and bog filter. A friend has given us duck weed. We are reluctant to add it to our pond because of its rapid growth rate. Do you have any advice regarding duck weed?
It’s a great plant at removing nutrients, but it grows incredibly quick. Goldfish and koi will eat it. If you add it you’ll most likely have it forever, so make sure you really want it.
Nothing really. In Australia our common heron is the white face heron. We have a few that visit the pond behind the nursery. All the other ponds are very close to the house, that seems to help. At the moment I’m battling ducks, I’m teaching the dog to chase them away.
Great information for this new koi pond owner. Beautiful, crystal clear water. Wow! Any suggestions on plants that can tolerate quite a bit of shade that can be planted in gravel? Also, what gravel works best in your experience? Thank you!
I can vouch for impatiens! When I first heard about growing them only in water, I didn't believe it. But I tried it and wow! Planted in early May (I'm in the US), by late August, those things are gigantic 4-foot balls of flowers. I buy the 6-packs of small ones, rinse all the dirt off the roots, put them in a little aquaponics pot, and set them along the shallow edges tucked in the rocks. Although impatiens are really shade plants, I find that mine don't seem to mind the hot afternoon sun for 4 or 5 hours, I guess because their roots stay cool in the water. We have many fish, so the water is naturally fertilized. I've been doing this for 5 years now and I absolutely love them!
I have planted lotus and lillies by directly adding soil to the pond and the water is still green, does soil affect the clarity of water if added directly to the floor of the pond ?

I’m a bit confused.. the big pot will act as a pond and it has a big hole in the middle. Then you’ll insert the smaller pot into the hole? Won’t the water just empty out the gaps? Thank you for taking time to reply. One last thing do think it's ok to us garden dirt or u recommend using gravel to plant the saplings.
If the koi are going to knock over the pots or pull the plants I’d just use pebble. You really don’t want soil mixing with the water.
