Richard, your DIY skills match mine and I burst out laughing (with/not at you) watching your attempts - but, please, take care my good man to not seriously harm yourself.
We had water coming into our Landing, coincidentally underneath a wide (1m) lead valley. Thought it was a leak - it's not easy to access our roof. Sent the drone up and there was a lot of green moss, both in the Valley and on the roofs. Got the ladders out (we have to get onto the slightly sloping conservatory roof and then put another ladder up to the valley. Turned out the moss in the valley was creating a dam. Meant the rain wasn't coming off the valley but building up and working it's way over the upturn of the felt and into the loft and through the plaster. Solution - Sent the Mrs. up (she's lighter and more agile than me) scraped off the moss (filled three bin bags!) washed of with garden hose and then sprayed the whole lot with Wet & Forget. (often on deal at Costco). I now check periodically with the drone. 18 months later still no moss.
This reminds me of a joke I herd a good few years back that goes, "A Woman was making sandwiches for her Husbands lunch and her friend said what is the filling and she replied Kit-e-Kat and her friend said that will make him ill No-no she replied he loves them, several months past and her husband died and her friend said I told you so those Kit-e-Kat sandwiches would make him ill and she replied to her friend it wasn't the sandwiches that killed him it was when he feel off the Roof". 😂🤣
Good morning Richard, As you say not the best of jobs , You have more guts than I have you wouldn’t get my bum up there at any cost well done you let’s hope it works I don’t think you would like to go up there again. Well that’s it for now so you take care of yourself and stay safe.🛠️🛠️⭐️⭐️👍👌 21:54
A great bit of ladder climbing,, . You remind me of a video on RUclips of a young Scottish guy trying to get down from a roof. Don't think you could climb mount everest 😂😂
There are some very reasonably priced pressure washer attachments specifically designed for cleaning tile roofs. That way the spray is facing down onto the tiles, and not up under them.
Sprinkle soap powder on roof, same as washing your clothes ,I use cheap stuff ,it takes a few weeks but it will go black instead of green, it really does work .
Get some lawn moss killer and try that . Or maybe try Jeyes Fluid but spray it on with the power washer more volume of mix needed , might be smelly . Just watch what your using as some things are harsh on cement
Copper single core earthing cable works well, just strip the insulation of it. I have it on my own buildings along the centre of the ridge, just resting on it. Brackets either end and a turn buckle strainer to tension it.
Tie a rope to the filled sprayer and hoist it up once you're on the roof. Marvelous tool: that bit of rope. Rig up a longer lance on the sprayer. Make sure you rinse it out afterwards. Steel roof will not hold up well under hypochlorite. Paint offers some protection but a rinse (or rain) after spraying will not hurt.
Basic salt kills a lot of plants, pretty cheap to, I know this as I had lots of snails on my back wall in wet weather, I chucked a load of salt on the roof of my out house, well it killed the snails, it also killed the Montana climber as well!
Fix a length of copper (or zinc) wire all the way across the top of your ridge tiles. When it rains, the rainwater hits the copper wire and leeches out moss killing particles which run down your roof tiles and kills off any moss trying to regrow.
The solution worked, but it would've been better if you was on the roof rather than spraying from the bottom. Just need to sweep it off, and spray the solution again. Just a thought could it be the dust from the bulk bin causing the moss, and there does seems to be quite a lot on the fibre roof near the bulk bin!
Hate to sound like Mr Health & Safety nurd but, don’t trust those metal profile sheets over the AC Sheets. The problem with AC ( apart from the dust) is that it cracks without warning. In the early 80’s I remember a Contractor I worked for at the time had a guy sadly killed in similar circumstances. It transpired that The AC had cracked near the edge of the steel profile sheet. The steel buckled due to lack of support. The guy fell through. Lesson learnt. Just don’t go near or trust AC sheet roofs - even less when they are covered. You can’t see the danger underneath. At least a crawl board would spread the load not that the HSE Inspector would give you any credit for it. Cherry Picker is the only safe way and they’re not infallible. Need to preserve the FF for the future.
Get a ridge attachment for your ladder, for future use, and never come down a roof on your butt, you will slide off , always come down on all four's , one slip and you wont be farming much more, just remember who relies on you, they need you around, not led out...🙂🙂.
Hi Richard 😊, can I suggest that you simply use salt. . Mix it as a solution, no environmental impact, and it doesn't sting your eyes as much if you don't wear your goggles and mask 😂
Hypocrite will only work for a year as it only burns the moss and lichens but doesn't kill it completely it will need to be done every year especially if you don't scrape the moss off first. You would be better to scrape the moss and use a moss/lichen specific roof fungicide that will last hopefully 5 years before it will grow back
Funky farmer remember me at the ploughing match a year ago listen give me a special mention please and thanks just mention Aidan that's all say I recommend this for Ur safety
Why call Mr. P. See if they can bring the left tree lift might reach for safety. That’s what friends are for work together. It cost down maybe the lift and reach up the rooftop there to get the mouse off the roof whatever you call it stuff and get yourself out extended pipe or something, we can reach it all the time but you don’t have to climb it up there it ain’t safe. You don’t have no rope up there are you not you fall down? Who’s gonna come? You can’t get up who’s gonna take care of you
Hi Rich - this is a result of a google search... hope it helps.... How to Prevent Moss on a Roof There are preventive measures you can use to keep your roof moss-free. First, let the sun shine in. Trim any branches hanging over your roof, keep the gutters free of debris, and regularly remove moisture collectors-such as leaves, branches, and seedpods-that pile up on the roof and encourage moss to grow. The best long-term solution is to attach strips of zinc or zinc-coated metal flashing strips just below the peak or ridge caps. When it rains, water flows over the metal strips, leaching out moss-retardant zinc particles, which attach to roof shingles and tiles to stop new moss from forming. Working safely, smartly, and strategically guarantees your operations will run smoothly. These prevention measures mean you'll be able to stay off the ladder and roof for seasons, if not years, to come.
Why don’t you why don’t you hire a roofer professional? They our train to do the job final how much they have to do better than having you fall down next thing you fall down can’t work can’t cows when you are hurt or do your job then your brother going to have to lay you off we can find someone will do the work because I will not climb up there. One you have to rope for safety. He got tied up there somehow no one falls down.
Wet and forget is very good I use it in my gardening business. It's safe non corrosive and it stays effective for along time preventing regrowth 👍

Tell folk you’ve got a Sedum Green Roof - the Environmentalists will love you

You can get an extension for cooper peglar sprayers it simply fits to the handle. That should solve the reach problem.
Another great video has always Richard harry and jack and Sam 👍

When you were climbing that roof, you looked like Spiderman 😂 interesting vblog.
Have you seen those clips on TikTok with people doing dangerous things at work with a heath and safety man looking on in disbelief ? - yea that !!
A great bit of ladder climbing,, . You remind me of a video on RUclips of a young Scottish guy trying to get down from a roof. Don't think you could climb mount everest 😂😂
You were just like spider man going up that roof 😮😂

Hi Richard, so many jobs to do on the farm a long broom would work well in that area then put on the bleach.
Iron Sulphate, cheap and effective moss killer.
If you do decide to power hose it use ap man lift and a harness so u don't fall off
You need Ian's land rover with the tower on it it is much safer they climbing around
Highly recommend Collinson bin to replace your old one
Not cheap but by far the best
Top job that Richard…
Best thing ever made. For dairy and. Moss
Give that sprayer a dam good wash out it will bugged the seals
Get some lawn moss killer and try that . Or maybe try Jeyes Fluid but spray it on with the power washer more volume of mix needed , might be smelly . Just watch what your using as some things are harsh on cement
Patch your Silo Richard, just had a look at new ones four fig sums certainly made my eyes water🥵
A copper strip or pipe along the ridge will stop the growth,
Copper single core earthing cable works well, just strip the insulation of it.
I have it on my own buildings along the centre of the ridge, just resting on it. Brackets either end and a turn buckle strainer to tension it.
I use the salt from the dish water knocked up in a strong solution & apply when the roof is dry .
works a treat & its Cheap
You should use a roof ladder to get to the ridge
Just about to do the same job today, thanks for info on your product, sounds better than mine.

Morning mate why don’t you cable tie the spray to a sweeping brush for a better reach
1/2" copper strip along the ridge tiles will deal with moss
Bleach will work for moss on roofs will dry out and turn black and brush it off

Think you need farmer p’s cherry picker
Moss goes black when it dies not green. Use iron sulphate.

@RogerNorman-q6x I get what you're saying but the steel sheets are well supported by the rafters below so I'm confident they would give way
2 litre pressure bottle. Don’t dilute it the jet gets right to the top of the roof peak.
Get a ridge attachment for your ladder, for future use, and never come down a roof on your butt, you will slide off , always come down on all four's , one slip and you wont be farming much more, just remember who relies on you, they need you around, not led out...🙂🙂.
Biological washing powder
Spider Man 👍
Enjoyed
copper strip under the ridge cap and no more problems
Was that Dave flying the plane?

get off that roof before you fall off with that rain.
👍👍🙏🙏💪👌👌🇮🇪🇮🇪
What happened with the safety goggles?
There is also a 14/15% strength which should be even better.
An accident waiting to happen.
Pelargonic acid( the organic Roundup) kills moss within a few hours. But i don't know if the moss comes off the roof voluntarily once it is dead.
👍

Less than 0.1%asbestos
Don't power hose it because the last person who power hose a roof fell off it and died god be good to him
Funky farmer remember me at the ploughing match a year ago listen give me a special mention please and thanks just mention Aidan that's all say I recommend this for Ur safety
I'm a gardener . Always struggling with moss... I do use chlorine granules but I find wet and forget is the best
Thanks for sharing that
Put your chemical on at 100% and it will work
A copper wire along the eve is your man
Use cheap washing powder on the roof will kill the moss

You need to get yourself a cat ladder 🪜 or a cherry picker, walking around on dodgy roofs isn't the best idea!
